My mother, Hortensia Rivera de Rexach, was born in 1910. Her’s wasn’t a happy childhood but she grew up to be quite a woman.
In her time, she went to college and became a full fledge teacher (something not usual for her times).
She met my father in the 1930’s and remained married for 64 years.
That is indeed a feat!
Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in spring. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Father’s Day and Siblings Day.
The celebration of Mother’s Day began in the United States in the early 20th century; it is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration (originally a celebration of the mother church, not motherhood). Despite this, in some countries Mother’s Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.
“If roses grow in heaven, Lord, pick a bunch for
me; place them in my mothers arms and tell her they’re from me;Tell her
that I love her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her
cheek and hold her for awhile; because remembering her is easy; I do it
everyday. There’s an ache within my heart that will never go ….

I hope you’re happy with my life
At peace with every choice I made
How I’ve changed
Along the way
And I know you believed in all of my dreams
And I owe it all to you, Mama
I’m writing this post and listening to this song with tears in my eyes; with a longing to see her smile, hear her voice and be held in her embrace. They are tears of joy because of all the memories that I hold in my heart and soul. There are tears of happiness because she was in my life for 89 years.
What more could a daughter ask for?
She was the greatest woman that I have ever known and the one who did the most for me.
You will always be my Mom.
We ALL are ONE!!
