A Day Without A Woman

On International Women’s Day, March 8th, women and our allies will act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity.

In the same spirit of love and liberation that inspired the Women’s March, we join together in making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system – while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.

We recognize that trans and gender nonconforming people face heightened levels of discrimination, social oppression and political targeting.

We believe in gender justice.

Anyone, anywhere, can join by making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, in one or all of the following ways:

Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor
Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses).
Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman

Ashley Judd’s EPIC “Nasty Woman” Speech …. “Women’s March, Washington, DC …. “!!

~~January 26, 2017~~

I’ve always loved this woman.

Guess I love her more now.

I saw this video during the weekend and it really left and impression.

Just think … a 19 years old girl from Tennessee wrote these words!

There’s hope for the new generation.

Take a look!

Michael Moore was in for a surprise during the Women’s March on Washington on Saturday when Ashley Judd interrupted him to read a politically charged poem

“I am Ashley Judd,” she declared as Moore reacted in shock, “and I am a feminist.”

She proceeded to recite a poem written by a 19-year-old named Nina Donovan from Tennessee. The contents of the writing included references to Trump’s election, mass incarceration, LGBT rights, the wage gap, and more relevant issues.

At one point, the poem compares Trump to Adolf Hitler.

The poem repeated the refrain “I am not as nasty as…”

at one point attacking Trump’s relationship with his daughter, Ivanka.

“I’m not as nasty as your daughter being your favorite sex symbol,” Judd said.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and nicknamed Obamacare, is a United States federal statute enacted by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.

~Obamacare vs. Affordable Care Act~

~~Published on Jan 17, 2017~~

Back in 2013 we conducted an experiment on our show. We went out on the street and asked people which was better: Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act.

Obamacare is of course just a nickname for the Affordable Care Act. They’re the same thing.

So with all the attention now on this subject, we decided to ask this question again to see if Americans have learned anything over the last three years.

Full Worm Moon …. March 3-5, 2015!!

~~March 3, 2015~~

Full Worm Moon

Algonquin Peoples

The Algonquin tribes called the March full moon the “Full Worm Moon”. The ground in March is thawing. Earthworms reappear and with them come the robins.

There were several variations on this moon name. Northern tribes called it the Full Crow Moon because the crows’ cawing meant the end of winter. Other tribes called it the Full Crust Moon (because the snow becomes crusted from repeated thawing and refreezing) or the Full Sap Moon (because it is time to tap the maple trees).

European settlers called this moon the Lenten Moon.

This weekend, the full moon comes calling – so full of itself as a herald to the equinox close on its heels that it will be intruding on our personal space a bit more than usual. The full moon this month coincides with lunar perigee, which brings it closer to earth than it has been for the past 18 years.

The phenomenon has been dubbed a “supermoon,” by the media, which have also fueled suggestions that its influence on earth is so powerful that it was in some way responsible for the earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan.

This bit of lunacy, however, has no scientific basis since the moon was not at perigee, but at a more average distance from earth, when the earthquakes occurred.

Full Moon Names and Their Meanings

Full Moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the Moon names, but in general, the same ones were current throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior.

European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names. Since the lunar month is only 29 days long on the average, the full Moon dates shift from year to year. Here is the Farmers Almanac’s list of the full Moon names.

Full Worm Moon – March

As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter.

To start the day …. “August ends, September starts”!!

~~September 3, 2014~~

~~As it appears in …~~

Autumn, interchangeably known as fall in the US and Canada, is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere) when the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier and the temperature cools considerably.

One of its main features is the shedding of leaves from deciduous trees as they pave way for further growth.

In North America, autumn is usually considered to start with the September equinox. In traditional East Asian solar term, autumn starts on or around 8 August and ends on about 7 November. In Ireland, the autumn months according to the national meteorological service, Met Éireann, are September, October and November. However, according to the Irish Calendar, which is based on ancient Gaelic traditions, autumn lasts throughout the months of August, September, and October, or possibly a few days later, depending on tradition. In Australia and New Zealand, autumn officially begins on 1 March and ends on 31 May.

Some cultures regard the autumnal equinox as “mid-autumn”, others with a temperature lag treat it as the start of autumn. Meteorologists (and most of the temperate countries in the southern hemisphere) use a definition based on months, with autumn being September, October and November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April and May in the southern hemisphere.
