VOTE AGAINST GOP CONTROL

~WE CANNOT WAIT FOR ANYONE TO SAVE US~

Capt. Chesley Sullenberger

MAY DAY, MAY DAY, MAY DAY!

I was always impressed by this American human being.

I didn’t know much about him until the ‘miracle in the Hudson’ happened.

For sure, I watched the movie.

Yet, last night, as I watched  him on ‘The Last Word‘, I learned to admire, respect even more and totally agree with him.

His gravitas is impressive.

Take a look!

The pilot who orchestrated a dramatic plane landing in the Hudson River nearly 10 years ago encouraged Americans to vote in next week’s midterm elections in a Washington Post op-ed published Monday, October 29, writing that “we cannot wait for someone to save us.”
“The fabric of our nation is under attack, while shame – a timeless beacon of right and wrong – seems dead,” Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, whose “Miracle on the Hudson” landing in 2009 spared the lives of all 155 passengers aboard, writes.

“This is not the America I know and love.

We’re better than this.”

The op-ed comes toward the close of a wrenching political season marked by divisive language, conspiracy theories and race-baiting attacks, from Drumpf to local leaders.

“We cannot wait for someone to save us.

We must do it ourselves.

This Election Day is a crucial opportunity to again demonstrate the best in each of us by doing our duty and voting for leaders who are committed to the values that will unite and protect us,” Sullenberger writes nearly a week before next week’s elections.

Following the 2009 landing, Sullenberger says that he realized his fame had given him “a greater voice.”

“I knew I could not walk away but had an obligation to use this bully pulpit for good and as an advocate for the safety of the traveling public,” he writes.

“I feel that I now have yet another mission, as a defender of our democracy.”

Puerto Ricans Strike on May Day

~WILL GATHER AGAIN THIS YEAR~

The people of Puerto Rico are beyond being tired!

They are organizing to express their feelings toward the overall status of the Island as well as the way the after effects of Hurricane María have been dealt with.

There are some towns in the Island that still do not have restored electric power.

The 2018 hurricane season is around the corner.

No other option but strike! Take to the streets!

Anger spreads across Puerto Rico over lack of basic services

Protests will block roads in Puerto Rico’s capital as May Day demonstrators angered by a long economic crisis march against looming austerity measures and demand an audit to identify those responsible for running up $70 billion in public debt.

Puerto Rico is struggling to emerge from a recession caused in part by previous administrations that for decades borrowed billions of dollars to cover budget deficits.

In June 2015 the island’s then-governor announced that the debt was unpayable, and the government has since racked up multimillion-dollar defaults on government-issued bonds that were popular because they were triple tax-exempt.

Puerto Rico’s Senate has ordered government agencies to explain why tens of thousands of people in rural areas remain without power or appropriate shelter as anger grows about the lack of basic services more than seven months after hurricanes Irma and María.

The agencies have been given five days to present a plan on how and when they will address the needs of rural towns, an order that came as police in a small mountain town blocked power crews from leaving Tuesday. Joining the protest was the mayor and dozens of people who noted that nearly 40% of Las Piedras’ inhabitants were still without electricity service as crews prepared to leave for another town on company orders.

“This is unfair,” 62-year-old town resident Rafael Jimenez said by phone.

“I don’t have a problem with other towns getting power because it’s a national necessity, but we need it, too.”

The standoff caught the attention of top Puerto Rico government officials and ended several hours later after the power company promised it would keep crews in Las Piedras until service is fully restored.

Justo Gonzalez, the company’ executive sub director, said in a statement that he is committed to restoring power to everyone but that blocking crews would only delay those efforts.

MAY DAY

~April showers bring May flowers ~
🌺 🌸🌼🌸🌺🌼🌸🌺🌼🌸🌼🌺

May Day is a public holiday usually celebrated on May 1.

It is an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival.

What is May Day?
Depending on where you are, it’s either a seasonal celebration or a day to celebrate workers’ rights, or maybe a little bit of both.

Think of the latter use as a Labor Day, if you will, for the rest of the world.
