DIALYSIS TREATMENT

~VIEQUES, PUERTO RICO~

This is a topic which is very dear and close to my heart.

As a retired physician, I fully understand the process, the need for treatment, the underlying medical conditions and the meaning of life-saving treatment.

On the other hand, my only brother died of complications of chronic renal failure several years ago. In the aftermath of Hurricane María, I often thought about him and how he would manage to receive this three times a week treatment when the electrical power situation and the hospital care was so lacking in my country.

One year after Hurricane María, Puerto Ricans living in Vieques, go through harrowing, uncomfortable, tiring, exhausting and dangerous ways to receive their treatment.

In medicine, dialysis is the process of removing excess water, solutes, and toxins from the blood in people whose kidneys can no longer perform these functions naturally.

The only reason for this is because it’s the book’s title. For me he’s been Drumpf, the original name when his ‘ancestors’ immigrated to this country.

The book is amazingly well done, thoroughly documented and scary as hell!

I’m just in the early chapters.

Trumpcare vs. Obamacare

The Congressional Budget Office report on Trumpcare is out, and it’s devastating: 14 million people losing insurance in the first year, 24 million over time, with premiums soaring for older, lower-income Americans — in many cases, the very people who went strongly for President Trump.

The C.B.O. thinks it would reduce the deficit, but only marginally, around $30 billion a year in a $19 trillion economy.

Obamacare imposes a mandate to induce healthy people to sign up, offers means-tested subsidies to make insurance affordable and expands Medicaid to take care of people with really low incomes. Trumpcare eliminates the mandate, slashes subsidies overall and redirects them to those who don’t need them and sharply cuts Medicaid.

Of course that leads to a huge drop in coverage.

A four-month-old Iranian girl, scheduled to fly into Portland for a heart surgery appointment at OHSU had to postpone the procedure after Drumpf’s immigration order.

The infant, Fatemah, has a heart condition. Her family found out about it at a routine checkup, and her pediatricians say she needs to have surgery soon.

“They said ‘this is a miracle, we don’t know how she had lived with the big problem she had.’ Immediately she has to do the surgery,” her uncle, Samad Taghizadeh , told KATU News.

Taghizadeh lives in Portland with Fatemah’s grandparents; they are American citizens. The family chose to have the open-heart surgery at Oregon Health & Science University – which boasts one of the top pediatric cardiology programs in the U.S. – because facilities in Iran do not have the equipment necessary for such a procedure.

Is that a new medical term?

After many, long years in the medical field, I can say, without doubt, what is a professional, medically, well-written doctor’s report about a patient under my care.

I don’t need the pundits to dissect this for me.

This is a laughing matter.

Sad to say, it’s not a comedy show but the national election of this country.

Once again, ‘the donald” has taken something almost “sacred” and made it into a laughable matter; down to the level of stand-up comedy … not that ‘stand-up comedy’ isn’t awesome when well done.

Comedy has no place in the medical field.

Comedy has no place in national elections.

Then again, this is just me!

Donald Trump’s Doctor Wrote Letter on His ‘Extraordinary’ Health in Only 5 Minutes

Dr. Harold Bornstein said in a new interview that he wrote the letter quickly as a limo was waiting

“His health is excellent, especially his mental health,” Dr. Harold Bornstein said in an interview with NBC Nightly News on Friday. He said he typed the letter at the last minute, while a limo dispatched by Trump waited for it.

“If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,” Bornstein wrote in the letter, calling the Republican nominee’s strength and stamina “extraordinary.”

He affirmed that statement in the interview with NBC.

“I like that sentence to be quite honest with you and all the rest of them are either sick or dead,” said Bornstein, who has been Trump’s doctor for 35 years.

He said his enthusiastic wording was inspired by the over-the-top language Trump favors

As I physician, when I was actively practicing, this was a medication that was very limited and totally controlled.

It was used as a last resort, for patients in extreme pain, usually terminal cancer patients.

It was never  the first drug of choice for pain.

ON A JOURNEY TO HEALTH

I’m every woman ….

This is a journey that resonates deeply with me. I have been on this journey since early childhood. I know what it means to be overweight, out of shape and “chunky” in every sense of the word.

I have tried almost all and any weight loss program you can think of. Many times I was successful in losing weight. The problem has always been keeping it off. Physical activity is a must. There was a time, as an adult, that I even had my very own personal trainer.

Currently, I’m trying again. Yet, the process gets harder as we get older. The old body is not able to “perform” as it did during earlier times. The mind is willing yet the body says “no way, José”.

I commend Oprah for embarking on this journey one more time in her life. I wish her all the success there is.

Now, it’s not a matter of looking good. It’s a matter of being healthy.

The Fibonacci numbers are Nature’s numbering system. They appear everywhere in Nature, from the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pinecone, or the scales of a pineapple. The Fibonacci numbers are therefore applicable to the growth of every living thing, including a single cell, a grain of wheat, a hive of bees, and even all of mankind.

Plants do not know about this sequence – they just grow in the most efficient ways. Many plants show the Fibonacci numbers in the arrangement of the leaves around the stem.
