MOCKING A VICTIM OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

~THERE’S NO BOTTOM~

Just when you think he can’t go lower, there’s another level below the previous ‘lowest one’. And HE never fails to deliver.

This time his bainless, devoted supporters, once again, followed his lead.

They are as heartless and empty vessels as he is!

Let the video speak for itself.

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin says the scene at Drumpf’s rally during which he mocked Brett Kavanaugh accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was “absent of soul.”

The little boy on the left of Drumpf, expressionless … on the same day the ‘so-called president’ said that young men should be scared in America.

~The Most Striking Thing About Trump’s Mockery of Christine Blasey Ford~
The president’s jokes at the expense of the woman who told her story of sexual assault are yet another reminder:

Laughter is a luxury. And, often, a weapon.

At a rally in Mississippi, Drumpf did what Drumpf is so often apt to do:

He dispensed with the former niceties. The Drumpf of last week had been, in public settings, generally respectful of Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who had come forward to allege that the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her when she was 15. The Drumpf of this week, however, reverted to the mode that is his most common and, it would seem, his most comfortable: mockery.

To me, the most naked, not surprising reaction was his supporters’ response!

The crowd at the rally guffawed. They cheered. They broke out into applause. The president, thus galvanized, thus supported, thus loved, continued his one-man interrogation:

“What neighborhood was it in? I don’t know. Where’s the house? I don’t know. Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? I don’t know. But I had one beer. That’s the only thing I remember.”

THE LAW OF THE LAND

A historic day which I remember very clearly.

I was sitting in my office, scrolling through Facebook when the first meme/graph related to the decision of the Supreme Court came down.

Marriage equality was the “law of the land“.

I remember thinking that this was only the beginning.

There was a lot more to get done.

This was the first step and we had many more to take.

It’s said that the longest journey starts with the first step and there we were.

Pride was all arround.

Since this momentous day, the backlash has been incredible.

As noted below many anti LGBT bills have been introduced in several states.

The culmination was the Orlando Pulse shooting which claimed the lives of 49 members of the LGBT community.

Can’t rest on our laurels, the mission continues.

#LoveWins: Celebrating One Year of Marriage Equality in America

In a historic 5-4 ruling exactly a year ago, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that bans on marriage for same-sex couples are unconstitutional, paving the way for nationwide marriage equality.

Two years prior, rulings in the historic Supreme Court cases United States v. Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry struck down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act and brought marriage equality back to California, respectively, laying the groundwork for Obergefell v. Hodges to make marriage equality the law of the land in all 50 states.

In 2016 alone, more than 200 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in 34 states. HRC has been on the ground fighting back against these dangerous pieces of legislation. While most have been defeated, five of those hateful bills (one in North Carolina, Tennessee and Kansas and two in Mississippi) have become law.

Tragically, those who lost their lives in the Orlando attack two weeks ago demonstrate why our battle against hatred and violence is so important to the LGBTQ community.

As we honor and celebrate this historic day, we must recommit ourselves to ending discrimination against LGBTQ people and help realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

IT’S BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS

A few days ago, I wrote a post where Ellen DeGeneres expressed her personal opinion about the bill that was signed into law in the state of Mississippi.

That first post included a short version of her monologue in her April 6 show.

I found this longer, more complete version.

It explains, in more detail, why this law is totally against basic human rights and totally discriminatory in so many ways.

BREAKING NEWS

North Carolina Pat McCrory issues executive order to protect gay and lesbian state employees, a band-aid on a brain hemorrhage and a poor effort to correct the harmful House Bill 2 he signed into law.

As it stands, existing protections for gay and transgender people are still lacking, existing rights for everyone under state nondiscrimination law is eroded, and transgender individuals are forced to use the wrong restroom in schools and other government buildings.

This law – an unprecedented attack on LGBT rights – strips away discrimination protections for LGBT people across the state and mandates discrimination against transgender people.

Can you be refused service in a store because of your sexual orientation?

YES

Can you be turned away from a hotel on the basis of your gender identity?

YES

Overnight, Governor McCrory and lawmakers transformed North Carolina into one of the most hateful states in the nation for LGBT people. North Carolina’s law makes it public policy to harass, bully, humiliate, target, and punish LGBT people – especially transgender people just trying to use a bathroom.

~Ellen DeGeneres Speaks Out Against Mississippi’s ‘Religious Freedom’ Law~

~~Published on Apr 7, 2016~~

Gov. Phil Bryant of Mississippi recently signed into law state bill HB 1523, which allows religious organizations and private business to refuse services to people on the grounds that it would violate their religious beliefs.

Ellen DeGeneres used her opening monologue to address Mississippi’s new law — one that, in general, targets members of the LGBT community. “That is the definition of discrimination,” said DeGeneres. “It is also something that the Supreme Court already ruled on when they made marriage a right for everyone. Everyone.”

Under the Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act, gay and transexual individuals can be denied housing and even fired. These steps backwards for equal rights strike a chord with DeGeneres, who has dealt with her fair share of discrimination in the past for her sexual orientation.

“So if you’re in Mississippi or North Carolina or anywhere, and are saddened by the fact that people are judging you based on who you love, don’t lose hope,” pleaded DeGeneres. “I was fired for being gay and I know what it feels like. I lost everything, but look at me now.”

IT’S BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS

Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to regardless of nationality, sex, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, language, or other status.

Human rights include civil and political rights, such as the right to life, liberty and freedom of expression; and social, cultural and economic rights including the right to participate in culture, the right to food, and the right to work and receive an education.  Human rights are protected and upheld by international and national laws and treaties.

To start the day ….. “North Carolina started …. Mississippi follows”!!

Mis4

~~April 7, 2016~~~

MISSISSIPPI … FOLLOWS NORTH CAROLINA

Mississippi is now in competition with North Carolina for having the most anti-LGBT law on the books. Tuesday morning, April 5, Gov. Phil Bryant (R) signed HB 1523 into law, endorsing a veritable catalog of discrimination against LGBT people and even those who have sex before marriage.

“This bill does not limit any constitutionally protected rights or actions of any citizen of this state under federal or state laws,” Bryant claimed in a statement. “The legislation is designed in the most targeted manner possible to prevent government interference in the lives of the people from which all power to the state is derived.”

What that means is that almost any imaginable form of discrimination against same-sex couples, people who identify as transgender, or anyone who has had non-marital sex is now protected behavior under the law, so long as the discriminating individual has a “sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction.”

Most notably, this includes shelter provided by religious organizations, any form of pro-LGBT counseling or medical support, any employer’s dress code or bathroom regulations, and any business related to the recognition of any marriage.

MINNESOTA RESPONDS

(more like these are very badly needed)

“This act of discrimination is discriminatory against many Mississippi residents, and violates their Constitutional rights. We cannot allow this injustice to go unanswered. When the rights of some Americans are threatened, it is the responsibility of all Americans to stand in opposition to those discriminatory acts. Minnesota has made great progress to protect the rights and dignity of all people in our state. Now, we will do what we can as Minnesotans, to support and defend the rights of others.”

Governor Mark Dayton

“The discriminatory laws passed in North Carolina and Mississippi are not who we are. The Mississippi law undoes years of progress protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination. I strongly support the Governor’s decision to discourage travel to Mississippi until these discriminatory laws are repealed.”

Lt. Governor Tina Smith

Thoughts for today …. #37!!

~~November 18, 2014~~

A record 2.5 million children in the U.S. were homeless at some point in 2013, according to a new report from the National Center for Family and Homelessness.

This amounts to one in 30 children and an 8 percent increase in child homelessness between 2012 and 2013. Nearly half the children are under the age of six. While the problem is most prevalent in Alabama, Mississippi, and California, it exists in every city, county, and state in the country.

The nation’s high poverty rate, a lack of affordable housing, and traumatic experiences – especially domestic violence — are the main causes of rising child homelessness. Most of the children come from single parent households, and 20-50 percent of the mothers of homeless children have experienced intimate partner violence, according to the report.

The effect of even temporary homelessness may lead to serious mental health issues and affect a child for the rest of his or her life. Trauma stemming from residential instability has been shown to interfere with learning and lead to poor cognitive skills and emotional self-regulation.
