Full Moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the Moon names, but in general, the same ones were current throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior. European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names. Since the lunar month is only 29 days long on the average, the full Moon dates shift from year to year.
However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . so the full Moon that occurs during that month was christened for the strawberry!
We use Full Moon names that were used during Native American and Colonial times to help track the seasons.
Depending on the tribe, May’s Full Moon was called the Full Flower Moon as well as Mother’s Moon, Milk Moon, and Corn Planting Moon.
The May Moon marked a time of increasing fertility with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom.
“I am not African.
Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not Taina.
Taino is in me, but there is no way back.
I am European.
Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language is Spanglish.
I was born at the crossroads
and I am whole.”

THE POWER OF LOVE
(partial lyrics)
The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling by like thunder now
As I look in your eyes
I hold on to your whole body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake
‘Cause I’m your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I’ll do all that I can
Lost is how I’m feeling lying in your arms
When the world outside’s too much to take
That all ends when I’m with you
Even though there may be times
It seems I’m far away
Never wonder where I am
‘Cause I am always by your side ….

“Luna” was produced by #Rainmaker-Entertainment and released in August, 2011 and the animation on this short is absolutely stunning.
This has to be one of the best short animation of this year. It’s sheer genius to make it black-and-white at so much more depth and really set up the tone of the short film. Fantastic piece of work the story-line is both engaging and original animators have done a super job.
“IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”’
