“SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — From the first hours after the news of the Orlando massacre broke, in which a shooter killed 49 people and injured 53 others in an act of hatred of LGBTQ people, it was clear that most of the men and women who died that day were Latin Americans.
But it wouldn’t be for several more hours, after the majority of the victim’s names were confirmed, that it would become clear that most of the Latinas and Latinos were Puerto Rican — 23 of the 49 killed.”
This was not just an attack on the LGTBQ community, this was an attack on the Latin American/Puerto Rican community as well. THAT is a fact I have not heard enough in the media … not the US nor the worldwide media.
Stay strong and proud my friends from across the pond, you have loads of friends in Europe and around the world.
In the arms of an Angel fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here ….
Half-mast or half-staff refers to a flag flying below the summit on a pole.
In many countries this is seen as a symbol of respect, mourning, or distress.
The tradition of flying the flag at half-mast began in the 17th century. According to some sources, the flag is lowered to make room for an “invisible flag of death” flying above.
