Simon Cowell gives opera singer Daniel Emmet an impossible challenge on ‘America’s Got Talent’
Classical crossover singer Daniel Emmet thought that he was sure to sail through his audition for “America’s Got Talent.”
But as we saw on the June 19 episode of “AGT,” head judge Simon Cowell had something else in mind for this 25-year-old singer, who intended to perform an original song that was a mashup of opera and pop. He had barely begun this tune, which came across as bland and boring, when judge Simon Cowell cut him off and requested that he sing a different song.
When Emmet admitted he had not come prepared with an alternate, Cowell seemed crossed. He dispatched him from the stage and gave him just one hour to learn another song, the Il Divo hit “Passera.”
The visibly nervous neophyte returned in the appointed 60 minutes and proceeded to wow the audience, the panel and even himself with his rendition of this Italian aria.
Pentatonix, the a cappella quartet, released their latest album of covers, PTX Presents: Top Pop Vol. 1 on Friday (April 13). The group has followed the premiere of the album with a new video – this time for their take on Ed Sheeran’s”Perfect”.
For “Perfect“, the well-dressed singers harmonize in various rooms of a muted old-school building as baritone Scott Hoying takes lead.
At the video’s peak, cellist Kevin Olusola’s solo leads to a ballerina pirouetting, right before the group joins in on the swoon of a chorus.
Darci Lynne Shocks Judges With Amazing ‘Natural Woman’ Ventriloquist Act
I have been following this young girl since she first appeared in the AGT’s auditions and Mel B pressed the Golden Buzzard.
This child is amazing.
She’s very talented in so many ways. She sings (with her mouth closed, she’s a ventriloquist and her charisma fills the room. Her performance in the quarter finals was so cute and incredible.
Darci Lynne introduced us to another puppet named Edna and left me feeling one way … shook. Singing Carole King’s “Natural Woman,” one of the hardest songs to sing because the only one who can cover it as well as Carole is Aretha Franklin, Darci knocked it out of the park.
With her mouth literally closed belting out the song, Darci’s older puppet “Edna” serenaded her crush Simon Cowell. Simon literally blushed as Darci walked over to the judge’s panel and continued to sing in Simon’s ear.
With the year’s passing of beloved musician and composer Leonard Cohen, it only seems fitting that his timeless song “Hallelujah” should be going viral once again.
At the Killard House School’s choir concert in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland, young Kaylee Rodgers sang a stunning version of Cohen’s most classic tune with modified lyrics. Kaylee’s voice is soaring and rich, but it’s her story that is perhaps most uplifting.
Kaylee happens to have autism and ADHD, and because she was so shy at school, she had a hard time participating in class.
The principal of Killard House, Colin Millar, explains that she
“wouldn’t really read out in class … so to stand and perform in front of an audience is amazing …
It takes a lot of effort on Kaylee’s part.”
Kaylee’s music teacher, Lloyd Scates, played a large role in helping her find the confidence to sing.
Her mother divulged that “she always loved singing, but it wasn’t until she started at Killard House School that she really came into her own. Mr. Scates is like her safety blanket – he’s amazing.”
Watch the video below to witness Kaylee’s touching transformation.
The lyrics of this modified version were written by contemporary Christian rock band Cloverton.
A recent episode of This American Life featured a song written by Sara Bareilles and sung by Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. imagining what President Barak Obama might be thinking about Donald Trump and the current election.
Now, there’s a video to accompany it.
The four minute visual shows Odom Jr. in the studio with a band, delivering and impassioned performance as the lyrics roll out at the bottom of the screen.
In the song, Odom Jr. sings, Bareilles’ poetic verse,
“One man rewriting the book on bad behavior/ Maybe cheats the neighbors/ Feels they get what they pay for/ We can’t pat him on the back and send him on through/ No man’s ignorance will ever be his virtue/ Is this the best we can be?

This American Life asked Sara Bareilles (Broadway’s “Waitress”) to imagine what President Obama might be thinking about the current election and Donald Trump, but can’t say publicly. Leslie Odom, Jr., performs the song.
As a civilization, we are going through tough, difficult times.
Day in, day out .. something new happens.
Some new conflict, a new scandal, economic woes, societal disgraces, government upheavals, continue permanent state of war, immigrants, displacement, massive forced migration.

~~Calysta Bevier Debut Music Video “BEGIN AGAIN”~~
~~Published on Sep 7, 2016~~
After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 15, I was lucky enough to begin again.
After being on America’s Got Talent and making it to the final 15, I am so fortunate to be able to begin again.
And now I’m taking hold of life and all it has to offer, giving it all I have, always believing and knowing with all my heart and soul that I can begin again.
The Chapman Stick is a fretboard instrument that is played piano-style, with the fingers of both hands tapping down onto the strings; with no picking or strumming. This technique leaves both hands free to play separate parts, the left hand playing the chords while the right hand plays the melody. The result is a huge sound with a rich, harp-like tone.
The Stick and the two-handed tapping technique were both invented by Emmett Chapman in the early 1970’s. Emmett’s astounding innovations have now enabled fretboardists the world over to reach an otherwise impossible musical potential.
About Mark
With only 10,000 Chapman Sticks worldwide, they are one of the most seldom seen and rarely heard instruments in the world.
With an elegant sound Mark White specializes in such music as Classical, Romantic, Celtic and Classic Rock.
Based out of Austin, Texas Mark White is one of the few Chapman Stick players in the world. Mark was first introduced to the Stick at the age of 12 by his music teacher Matt Rogers. Completely captivated by the sound, Mark eventually transitioned to the Stick full-time. At the age of 17 he and Matt Rogers formed a Chapman Stick duo called “Heartstrings”. Mark has been working as a full-time musician ever since.
Juan Gabriel, 66, was a man of grand performances, gestures and especially songs — including eight No. 1s on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. His fans have devoured his music for more than four decades.
He spanned the whole Latin world: Mexico, his country, Latin and South America, Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, Spain.
Where Latin people live, Juan Gabriel was part of their lives.
“Juan Gabriel is our Elvis,” declares Juanes, the Colombian star who recorded the hit “Querida” with the singer in 2015.
~~Juan Gabriel Dies at 66~~
Born Alberto Aguilera Valadez, the son of a farmer, in Parácuaro, Mexico, about 165 miles west of Mexico City, Gabriel is a courtly gentleman, the single father of four adult children. Yet he transforms onstage into a master of melodrama (his nickname is “The Divo From Juárez“) and is known to bring both men and women to tears during his two-and-a-half-hour concerts.
On Aug. 19, Gabriel launched another arena tour of the United States: the 21st century-themed MeXXIco Es Todos (Mexico Is All of Us), which will play nearly 30 cities in a 360-degree stage format. The show will include 50 mariachi and orchestra players, 10 singers and 20 dancers.
This fall, Telemundo will premiere Hasta Que Te Conocí (Until I Met You), a TV series chronicling his rise that is named after his 1968 hit song.
Juan Gabriel, a superstar Mexican songwriter and singer who was an icon in the Latin music world, died Sunday at his home in California at age 66, his publicist said.
Juan Gabriel was Mexico’s leading singer-songwriter and top-selling artist. His ballads about love and heartbreak and bouncy mariachi tunes became hymns throughout Latin America and Spain and with Spanish speakers in the United States.
He brought many adoring fans to tears as they sang along when he crooned his songs about love and heartbreak, including his top hits, “Hasta Que Te Conoci” (“Until I Met You”) and “Amor Eterno” (“Eternal Love”). His hit “Querida” (“Dear”) topped Mexico’s charts for a whole year.
A flamboyant performer, Juan Gabriel, whose real name was Alberto Aguilera Valadez, liked to wear jackets covered in sequins or dress in shiny silk outfits in hot pink, turquoise blue or canary yellow, and he was known for tossing his head before dancing or jumping around the stage.
“He has passed on to become part of eternity and has left us his legacy through Juan Gabriel, the character created by him for all the music that has been sung and performed all around the world,” his press office said in a statement.

The Chicks, whose bluegrass roots and rock ’n’ roll spirit broke down country music barriers and made them the best-selling female band of all time in the United States, were in the middle of a lengthy hiatus. The trio had not been heard from since scaling back a 2006 tour that suffered from continuing reverberations from “the incident”:
a remark the singer Natalie Maines had made about President George W. Bush a few years earlier.

“Not Ready To Make Nice”
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting
I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying
I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should
I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it
I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over
I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should
I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should
What it is you think I should
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting …
