ON TAKING THE FIFTH AMENDMENT

The Fifth Amendment (Amendment V) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights and, among other things, protects individuals from being compelled to be witnesses against themselves in criminal cases.

“Pleading the Fifth” is thus a colloquial term for invoking the right that allows witnesses to decline to answer questions where the answers might incriminate them, and generally without having to suffer a penalty for asserting the right.

Michael Cohen, the longtime personal attorney for President Drumpf, filed court papers Wednesday, April 25, indicating he would assert his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination regarding his involvement in a hush money deal involving porn star Stormy Daniels and the ‘so-called’ President.

Cohen filed the declaration as part of an effort to have a civil lawsuit filed by Daniels put on hold.

The judge in that case said last week that he needed to hear from Cohen directly before deciding on that request.
Michael Avenatti, Daniels’ attorney, called Cohen’s declaration “a stunning development.”

Macron wins French presidency by decisive margin over Le Pen

As the news started coming in through social media, I felt an immense sense of relief.

It was a worldwide sigh which created a ripple effect as the French rejected fear, xenophobia, racism, populism, nationalism, isolation and the politics of the far right in a landslide.

Emmanuel Macron will be France’s next president!

His victory was hailed by his supporters as holding back a tide of populism after the Brexit vote and Donald Trump’s victory in the US election.

On Sunday, May 7, the people of France annoyingly retained their traditional right to claim intellectual superiority over Americans, as millions of French citizens paused to enjoy just how much smarter they were than their allies across the Atlantic.

In bars and cafés across France, voters breathed a sigh of relief in the knowledge that arrogantly comparing themselves to the U.S. population, a longtime favorite pastime of the French people, would remain viable for the foreseeable future.

The 2003 Mission Accomplished speech gets its name from a banner that read “Mission Accomplished” displayed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln during a televised address by United States President George W. Bush on May 1, 2003 and the controversy that followed.

On May 4, 2017, the US House of Representatives rammed a bill which passed with a very narrow margin.

This is the famous ‘repeal/replace’ Obamacare.

After the fact, these people partied in the Rose Garden.

This act and the photos will come back and haunt anyone who was there.

The only thing that happened really was the ramming of this bill.

There’s still a lot to be done before it becomes the ‘law of the land’.

Seems to me this celebration was a bit premature.

We’ll see!

It seems that this Republican administration is going down a slippery slope.

Freedom of the press has been a pillar of the democracy proudly proclaimed by the United States of America.

This pillar is strongly and ‘bigly’  protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

If this change would ever come to fruition, the consumer would be the one mostly affected.

Drumpf said he plans to change libel laws in the United States so that he can have an easier time suing news organizations.

During an interview with ABC’s This Week on Sunday, April 30, about the Drumpf’s first 100 days in office, the White House chief of staff, Reince Priebus, remarked that “newspapers and news agencies need to be more responsible with how they report the news.”

When asked whether the Drumpf administration wants to change laws to allow the President to sue the press, Priebus responded:

“I think it’s something that we’ve looked at.”
