At the end of the day …. true friendship!!

~~October 13, 2014~~

I dedicate this post to my dear friends Melanie and Jean … been through thick and thin lately. We have managed to stick together in the face of adversity. This is when true character shines through. True friendship at its best.

So glad to have you in my life!

“Friendship is born at that moment when one man says to another: “What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .””
~~C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves~~

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”
~~Henri J.M. Nouwen, Out of Solitude: Three Meditations on the Christian Life~~

A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.”
~~Elbert Hubbard~~

~~April 22, 2014~~

Some of you know that I had a difficult day yesterday.

My main goal it to put the incident behind me. There’s no importance in things that are unimportant. There’s no importance to things that have no value. The world goes on and so does my life.

Today is s a better day thanks to the friends who stepped up to offer words of comfort. For that I’m very grateful.

~~TECHNICAL DEFINITION~~

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people.

Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. Friendship has been studied in academic fields such as sociologysocial psychologyanthropology, and philosophy. Various academic theories of friendship have been proposed, including social exchange theoryequity theoryrelational dialectics, and attachment styles. A World Happiness Database study found that people with close friendships are happier.

Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place, certain characteristics are present in many types of friendship. Such characteristics include affection, sympathyempathyhonestyaltruism, mutual understanding and compassion, enjoyment of each other’s company, trust, and the ability to be oneself, express one’s feelings, and make mistakes without fear of judgment from the friend.

While there is no practical limit on what types of people can form a friendship, friends tend to share common backgrounds, occupations, or interests, and have similar demographics.

“Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.”

“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”

“I think if I’ve learned anything about friendship, it’s to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired, don’t take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.”
~~Jon Katz~~

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.”
