LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL … IF WE LET IT

So many things are going wrong in this world we live now.

We need to go back in time.

We need to recapture the innocence of children and make that our way of being and our way of life.

LA VIDA ES BELLA

Let’s start today with that thought in mind.

“As adults we get so entrapped in illusions and trivia, that we forget the true essence of life; and so often we need to connect with children, to understand that it is the little, priceless joys that make life beautiful and worthy.”

PARIS ATTACKS … LIGHTS OUT

Pianist plays moving rendition of ‘Imagine‘ outside attack site

As support pours in from around the world and the city mourns in the wake of Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, a pianist offered his own touching contribution.

On Saturday morning, November 14, pianist Davide Martello rode up on a bike with a portable piano and played John Lennon’s “Imagine” in an area near the Bataclan concert hall, where more than 100 people were killed as part of a coordinated attack at multiple sites.

In January 2015, the German musician played for two hours in the Place de la Republique in Paris as a healing gesture for the city after the deadly attacks on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a kosher supermarket. Martello also played through the night in Turkey’s Taksim Square in 2013 amidst widespread protests and turmoil in the country.

To start the day …. “Omar Akram: Last dance”!!

Om1

~~May 16, 2015~~

WHEN I DANCE

I dance for me,

Silent vibrations from within

Rhythm of the unseen,

I dance for me.

My steps follow their direction,

My heart-beat echoes their sound.

Some say I dance weird: they call me possessed.

If I dance raw, if I dance pure,

If I dance whirlwind, if I dance the spirits within,

No matter what they say,

I know I dance me.

I dance for me.

At the end of the day …. “Rock Meets Rachmaninoff”!!

Ro2

~~February 1, 2015~~

Ending the day with a strong, inspiring musical piece blending two styles: classic and rock.

The Piano Guys are an American musical group consisting of Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Paul Anderson, and Al van der Beek. They gained popularity through YouTube, where they posted piano and cello renditions of popular songs and classical music. Schmidt and Nelson’s music is accompanied by professional-quality videos shot and edited by Paul Anderson and formerly by Tel Stewart.

Jon Schmidt is perhaps one of the most relevant pianists of our time. This is a brilliant adaptation of Rachmaninoff. Another impressive work from The Piano Guys.

Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff  (1 April 1873 – 28 March 1943) was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor. Rachmaninoff is widely considered one of the finest pianists of his day and, as a composer, one of the last great representatives of Romanticism in Russian classical music.

Story Behind the Song

“When my son was starting his band at 15 years old, he liked to show me guitar and drum discoveries he found on YouTube. Having never played in a band myself, I now appreciate the coolness of things like double bass pedaling and guitar sweeps because of him. Rock meets Rachmaninoff combines 2 of my favorite musical influences:

Rachmaninoff and my awesome son, Spencer.”

Omar Akram: Grammy Award Winning Recording Artist, Pianist, Cultural Diplomat

The piano-driven, instrumental music of Omar Akram elegantly defies borders and has played a crucial role in defining modern New Age and World music.  His songs have millions of plays on YouTube from fans across the globe, and his first two albums, Opal Fire (2002) and Free As a Bird (2004), hit the Top 15 on Billboard’s New Age chart.  He became the first Afghan-American to win a Grammy award with Echoes of Love (2012), and his most recent album, Daytime Dreamer (2013), presents an enchanting blend of World, New Age and electronica music that lures listeners with masterful musicianship and his well-traveled wisdom.

MusicB

Born in New York, Omar grew up the son of a United Nations diplomat living everywhere from France to Prague, Cuba and his ancestral home of Afghanistan.  He details his multi-cultural upbringing and his youthful brush with Fidel Castro in his op-ed for the Huffington Post, “Can Music Promote Cultures and Bridge Peace?

With powerful supporters like Paulo Coelho and Deepak Chopra, and diehard fans around the world, Omar is more than a world-class musician – he is an internationally recognized cultural figure who has been featured on BBC, Origin Magazine and Los Angeles Magazine.

L1

In Omar’s interview with Origin Magazine, he concludes that his music is popular largely due to an absence of spoken language, and his openness to travel and world cultures,

“I create instrumental music because it is the most borderless form of expression I know.  Since there are no words, it is not confined by any one language.  This gives the power of interpretation to the listener, and my life’s work is connecting cultures and people through the universal expression of music.”
