~Thy Rock ‘N’ Roll Holiness Electrifies In Amped Up Musical Event~

Yesterday, on Easter Sunday, I was visiting family to celebrate the occasion.
I had set my DVR in case I wasn’t home before the show began … and that was the case.

You see, back in 1970, when the LP was released, it became one of my favorite musical ever. I would stay in my room, lyrics in hand, headphones in place … till the wee hours in the morning listening to the music over and over.

Watching the show last night lead to many happy memories and moments of amazing flashbacks.

To my surprise, I remembered most of the lyrics.

For me, back then, the musical represented a state of the times … these being the times of Jesus Christ and the times when the musical production was released. To me, it was an attempt to explain the story of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Judas, the Apostles and the politico-social reality of the era. It was also an attempt to bring humanity to the characters.

I found it quite interesting that 48 years after the initial release, the message still rang true and applied to the times we are currently living.

I definitely loved the concert.

I think the set, the musicians, the development concepts and the performances were beyond amazing.

John Legend, Sara Barielles, Alice Cooper and Brandon Victor Dixon were flawless. 

In other words, I loved it!

It’s great that I have it recorded and can watch it over and over and over.

I will buy the DVD for sure when it’s released!

Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1970 rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The musical started as a rock opera concept album before its Broadway debut in 1971.

The musical is mostly sung-through, with little spoken dialogue. The story is loosely based on the Gospels’ accounts of the last week of Jesus’s life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. It depicts political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus that are not present in the Bible.

The work’s depiction offers a free interpretation of the psychology of Jesus and the other characters. A large part of the plot focuses on the character of Judas, who is depicted as a tragic figure dissatisfied with the direction in which Jesus steers his disciples. Contemporary attitudes and sensibilities (as well as slang) pervade the lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction of political events. Stage and film productions accordingly contain many intentional anachronisms.

It’s only appropriate that NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert aired on Easter Sunday.

There is no better way to celebrate the Holy holiday than with an Easter egg hunt in the day and a live TV adaptation of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical at night. And when it comes to NBC live musical events, Jesus Christ Superstar ranks at the top.

What could have felt like a dated rock opera was more like an uproarious arena concert filled with screaming fans, frenetic lights, blaring speakers, pyrotechnics and a group of musicians and performers fueled with the spirit of a chaotic electric guitar wildly flailing about – just how Jesus would have wanted it.

THE BASIC RULES OF HUMAN STUPIDITY

The basic laws of human stupidity are ancient. The definitive essay on the subject is younger. Called The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity, it was published in 1976 by an Italian economist.

Professor Carlo M Cipolla taught at several universities in Italy, and for many years at the University of California, Berkeley. He also wrote books and studies about clocks, guns, monetary policy, depressions, faith, reason, and of course – he being an economist – money. His essay about stupidity encompasses all those other topics, and perhaps all of human experience.

Cipolla wrote out the laws in plain language. They are akin to laws of nature – a seemingly basic characteristic of the universe.

Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons, while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

What’s Happening When Your Mind is Racing

A racing mind is the stress that comes with you not being able to stop thinking.

You don’t have the opportunity to fall asleep because you can’t let go of those thoughts long enough to drift. You’re mind is swirling around thought of past, future, and present.

In general when you’ve got a racing mind at night, your thoughts fall into 3 categories:

What Should I have Done Today

You go over and over all those things that you wish you’d accomplished, but didn’t have the time or energy to.  Oftentimes, this leads to a negative emotional place where you start to beat yourself up for not getting enough done.

What do I need to get Done Tomorrow

This, of course, doesn’t just encompass your workload, though that’s often the lead stress-causer.  It’s really just a hodge-podge of everything that turns your tomorrow into a daunting mountain.  And the temptation can be to jump up and get a head start.  But that will only leave you exhausted and far less productive.

Losing Sleep over Sleep

That frustration and feeling of defeat when you realize how much worse your day will be tomorrow when you don’t get any sleep tonight.  And your thoughts start to focus on, “O my gosh, I should really be asleep right now!”  “Why am I not falling asleep?”

The End Of The Bush Dynasty …. please!!

Could all of this be true?

“The Bush family has been characterized in various ways including the Bush dynasty, crime family or syndicate. George Bush is just the latest in a line of unsavory characters but clearly the bad or worst seed and, in the eyes of most honest observers, the least worthy of an unworthy lot. He was supposed to be the latest in the Bush family line chosen to lay another golden egg for the dynasty but turned out instead to be an ugly duckling who’s just been an embarrassment and much worse because of the course he chose and his rigid ideological obstinacy to change even in the face of failure.

The Bush family considers itself among the special chosen ones if based only on its royal heritage. The family is connected by blood to every European monarch on and off the throne including every member of the British House of Windsor.

That relationship is more than familial and extends to the president’s father having close business dealings with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip who themselves are connected to the notorious Carlyle Group that also employs GHW Bush as a “senior consultant” and master-rainmaker/fixer-arranger at a very high price for his services.”

Keep pets indoors and warm
The best prescription for winter’s woes is to keep your dog or cat inside with you and your family. The happiest dogs are those who are taken out frequently for walks and exercise but kept inside the rest of the time.

Don’t leave pets outdoors when the temperature drops. During walks, short-haired dogs may feel more comfortable wearing a sweater.

No matter what the temperature is, windchill can threaten a pet’s life. Pets are sensitive to severe cold and are at risk for frostbite and hypothermia during extreme cold snaps. Exposed skin on noses, ears and paw pads can quickly freeze and suffer permanent damage.
