FRANCIS AND LGBT CATHOLICS

Pope Francis refused repeated requests to meet with LGBT Catholics but made time for a secret, closed-door meeting with the anti-gay Kentucky clerk who is not Catholic.

BLine

I have shared several posts related to Kim Davis and her actions in Kentucky.

She hasn’t been a favorite of mine at all.

I’m a proud member of the LGBT community and married my partner of almost 40 years on January 6, 2015, the day after it became legal in the state of Florida.

Both of us are very grateful that our county clerk did her job and was very nice and pleasant about it.

I know from personal experience how her actions have made the people of her county feel.

Ms. Davis has been seeking the spotlight on the back of her religious beliefs.

She has attained notoriety through the political hacks who have gravitated to her for their own political weak gains.

It seems to me that she’s being used and she’s allowed it because she will also benefit from this in the name of “god’s authority”.

I’ve mentioned before that I was raised in the Catholic Church. My parents were very active in our church.

I was baptized when I was 6 days old.

I went to confession and had my first communion.

I went to Catholic school and college from kindergarten through high school.

I completed my college degree at a Catholic university.

Why do I mention all of this?

Because I know the significance in the Pope’s existence and his authority. I’m well aware of his “infallibility’.

Papal infallibility is a dogma of the Catholic Church that states that, in virtue of the promise of Jesus to Peter, the Pope is preserved from the possibility of error “When, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church.”

Wikipedia

The fact that I felt this pope to be genuine, tolerant and all encompassing has been “destroyed”, in my humble opinion, because of this meeting and the support that he seems to have given to someone who has behaved in a criminal manner.

She’s refusing to do her job.

I’m not anyone fit to judge anyone but her past marriages and personal actions fall quite short from the behavior of a person of faith and religious beliefs.

I found an article in The Advocate which explains quite clearly why this secret meeting may “throw a wrench” in the major advances that have recently taken place in this country.

Again, I say, there’s no place for me in the Catholic church at all.

There’s no place for anyone on the LGBT community in the Catholic Church.

I’ve known it for a long time.

Now, it’s been confirmed, assured, accepted and internalized.

It’s OK.

This will be my last post on Ms. Kim Davis and Pope Francis.

Sorry, Mr. Pope, you did wrong here.

In a short action, you undid all the good that your visit generated …. in my book.

No more free promotion in my spot.

Activists who represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Catholics tell The Advocate they are concerned about now-confirmed reports of a meeting between Pope Francis and anti-gay Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, fearing that such a meeting could set back what little support there is for the disenfranchised faithful.

“The news that Pope Francis met with Kim Davis while failing to respond to repeated requests for dialogue with LGBT Catholics and their families will be deeply disappointing to many Catholics, gay, trans, and straight alike,” says Marianne Duddy-Burke, executive director of DignityUSA, in an email to The Advocate. “It put the weight of the Vatican behind the US Catholic bishops’ claims of victimization, and supports those who want to make it more difficult for same-sex couples to exercise their civil right to marriage.”

According to the Liberty Counsel‘s release, Francis met with Davis and her husband, Joe, Thursday at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C. The pope told Davis, “Thank you for your courage” and “stay strong,” and asked her to pray for him, and she in turn asked him to pray for her. He also presented the couple with rosary beads he had personally blessed.

The pope said little about marriage equality during his visit, but as New Ways Ministry‘s DeBernado mentioned, on the papal flight back to Rome Monday he said there is a “human right” to “conscientious objection,” even by government officials, when duties conflict with their religious beliefs.

“Though LGBT and ally Catholics have welcomed Pope Francis’ affirming remarks,  many, including me, have also remarked that he sometimes talks out of both sides of his mouth,” DeBernardo wrote in his email. “Moreover, while he is LGBT-positive in general ways, his remarks on specific moral and political issues are often at odds with his welcoming stance. The time for vagueness, ambiguity, and secret meetings is over. Pope Francis needs to state clearly where he stands in regard to the inclusion of LGBT people in the church and society.”

“I fear that this meeting and claims that the Pope told Ms. Davis to ‘stand strong’ will embolden the many US bishops and others who continue to try to turn back support for LGBT people,” wrote Duddy-Burke of DignityUSA. “It will make even more of us feel like the Pope’s message of mercy and love was not meant for LGBT people and families. It points again to the deep divide between Catholics who affirm and support their LGBT family members and friends, and the hierarchy, which is tragically out of touch.”

~Pope Francis Met Kim Davis In Private~

But What About?

~Published on Sep 30, 2015~

During Pope Francis’s U.S. visit, he privately met with Rowan County clerk Kim Davis. During his visit to America, he took a strong stance against issues like arms sales, global warming and the death penalty, but avoided making a direct statement on same-sex marriage. Some see his “secret” meeting with Davis as a sign of his support for her cause.

FACT CHECK

Did Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis meet with Pope Francis?

BLine

I has a sad.

I was raised Catholic but I’m not practicing that faith.

I’ve learned to be very cautious since my upbringing taught me how this Church works.

Their ideology behind the LGBT reality definitely shows that, in spite of other advances in their policies, they are still behind in time.

I must confess that I followed his visit to the USA.

I was enthralled by his presence.

His message in Congress, the UN and other venues were inspiring.

I found myself warming up to his presence.

Warning bells started during the Joint Meeting of Congress address when he mentioned the importance of family.

I should have listened to my “gut” then.

There’s no place in the Catholic Church for me.

I shouldn’t have let my hopes get the best of me.

On September 29, 2015, the web site Inside the Vatican published an item reporting that Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who famously defied court orders and went to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, met with Pope Francis during the pontiff’s visit to the United States.

Where is your Cool Pope now, America?

His PR game is undoubtedly on fleek, but he’s still beholden to the same homophobic crap we know and love from the Catholic Church, the world’s most powerful supporter of impunity for priestly pedophiles.

During his U.S. visit, Pope Francis privately met with Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk of Court who was jailed for five days for refusing to obey the law and do her job: issuing marriage licenses to people, including people who are gay.

Davis has become a cause célèbre among bigots who believe two people who love each other should not be allowed to marry if they have matching genitals.

“Pope Francis thanked me for my courage and told me to ‘stay strong,’” said America’s Martyr of her meeting with the Cool Pope.

BLine

The Pope met privately with Kim Davis and her husband, Joe, at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, September 24, which was the birthday of Kim’s father.

Pope Francis spoke with Kim and Joe Davis in English. During the meeting Pope Francis said, “Thank you for your courage.” Pope Francis also told Kim Davis, “Stay strong.” He held out his hands and asked Kim to pray for him. Kim held his hands and said, “I will. Please pray for me,” and the Pope said he would. The two embraced. The Pontiff presented Kim and Joe Davis each with a Rosary that he personally blessed. Kim’s mother and father are Catholic, and Kim and Joe will present the Rosaries to her parents. Kim’s mother was the elected Clerk of Court for Rowan County for 37 years until her retirement in 2014.

Kim Davis said

“I was humbled to meet Pope Francis.

Of all people, why me?” Davis continued, “I never thought I would meet the Pope.

Who am I to have this rare opportunity?

I am just a County Clerk who loves Jesus and desires with all my heart to serve him.”

Kim said, “Pope Francis was kind, genuinely caring, and very personable.

He even asked me to pray for him.

Pope Francis thanked me for my courage and told me to ‘stay strong.’”

This really is more than I can stomach.

The Pope (Catholic) takes time out of his busy schedule while in Washington, D.C. to meet Kim Davis (Pentecostal) at a pre-arranged meeting to thank her and give her his blessing and support for denying same-sex couples marriage licenses (her job and the law) and to tell her to stay strong.

This is more disturbing and disgusting than anything I have heard in a very LONG time.

The Pope gives his blessing to a 4 time married whore who had 2 children out of wedlock while married, just because she hates gay people as much as he does.

That about sums it all up.

When I was raised Pentecostal I was taught that The Pope was a false prophet and The Catholic Church was wrong and evil.

My how things have changed!!

POPE FRANCIS LEAVES WASHINGTON

Papal Visit: Francis Departs D.C., Next Stop Is NYC

Pope Francis departed the capital Thursday afternoon for the next leg of his trip in the U.S. after electrifying crowds and Congress over three days in Washington, D.C.

Francis is traveling to New York City, where he’ll participate in the Evening Prayer at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Friday will be a busy day for the pope, who’s scheduled to deliver an address to the United Nations, visit the Sept. 11 Memorial and celebrate Mass at Madison Square Garden in the evening.

Are you “Poped out” or “pooped out”?

I was born and raised Catholic.

During my young and adolescent years, my family and I were very active in the Catholic Church.

This has significantly changed with time.

I don’t consider myself Catholic anymore.

However, I have been keeping an eye on Pope Francis’ actions and messages.

Even though there are some topics that I don’t agree with him, this visit to America has been important to me.

He’s brought to the forefront a message of hope.

He leads my example.

He’s showing all of us that we can get along and respect each other in spite of our differences.

Safe travels, Pope Francis.

POPE FRANCIS VISITS CONGRESS

The 10 Most Political Moments In Pope Francis’ Address To Congress

Pope Francis speaks his mind, and he did that again in his address to a joint meeting of Congress Thursday morning, September 24, 2015. But, in the vein of the best Jesuit teachers, Francis praised America, its rich political history and its ideals before delicately delivering some things its political leaders might, well, want to consider working on.

Here were 10 moments that stood out from his address

Embracing John Kerry

A call to rise above polarization

A call for the country to open its arms to immigrants and refugees

A reminder on abortion

Strongly advocating for abolishing the death penalty

Poverty and the necessity of ‘distribution of wealth’

Business should be about “service to the common good”

Calling on Congress to act on climate change

Anti-war message and a call to stop arms trade

The importance of family and marriage

PopeHomeless

~~September 24, 2015~~

AN EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW

After addressing Congress, Pope Francis will eat his meal with the homeless
by Walter Einenkel

Francis will make by going directly to lunch with homeless people rather than with his congressional hosts after his speech on Capitol Hill will resonate on both sides of the aisle.

“He is a walking, talking parable,” said Carr. “This is a Pope who looks at the world from the bottom up and from the outside in. I think he brings to Congress and the White House a different perspective than they are used to hearing.”

The parable is clear. Pope Francis speaks to one of the most powerful groups of people in the world and then has dinner with the most invisible people in the world. There’s also something even more profound in it. By connecting this meal directly to his speech in front of Congress, he’s drawing a parallel to the Pharisees. A connection that no one wants made to them (regardless of your religious predilections).

Pope Francis …. “Speech Given by the Pope at the White House”!!

Read the Speech Pope Francis Gave at the White House

I remembered about the Pope’s visit to the White House this morning just in time.

I turned the TV on and there he was … starting to speak his words.

I’m so happy I didn’t miss it.

It’s a speech for history.

He touched on so many current topics. He proved that he’s very much aware and in touch with the current topics that affect our society and our world.

His cadence, his presence, his aura … all proving how special this Pontiff is.

His words touched my heart.

Here is a transcript of his speech, according to prepared remarks released by the Vatican.

Mr. President,

I am deeply grateful for your welcome in the name of all Americans.

As the son of an immigrant family, I am happy to be a guest in this country, which was largely built by such families.

I look forward to these days of encounter and dialogue, in which I hope to listen to, and share, many of the hopes and dreams of the American people.

During my visit I will have the honor of addressing Congress, where I hope, as a brother of this country, to offer words of encouragement to those called to guide the nation’s political future in fidelity to its founding principles. I will also travel to Philadelphia for the Eighth World Meeting of Families, to celebrate and support the institutions of marriage and the family at this, a critical moment in the history of our civilization.

Mr. President, together with their fellow citizens, American Catholics are committed to building a society which is truly tolerant and inclusive, to safeguarding the rights of individuals and communities, and to rejecting every form of unjust discrimination.

With countless other people of good will, they are likewise concerned that efforts to build a just and wisely ordered society respect their deepest concerns and their right to religious liberty.

That freedom remains one of America’s most precious possessions. And, as my brothers, the United States Bishops, have reminded us, all are called to be vigilant, precisely as good citizens, to preserve and defend that freedom from everything that would threaten or compromise it.

Mr. President, I find it encouraging that you are proposing an initiative for reducing air pollution.

Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me also that climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation.

When it comes to the care of our “common home”, we are living at a critical moment of history.

We still have time to make the changes needed to bring about “a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change”.

Such change demands on our part a serious and responsible recognition not only of the kind of world we may be leaving to our children, but also to the millions of people living under a system which has overlooked them. Our common home has been part of this group of the excluded which cries out to heaven and which today powerfully strikes our homes, our cities and our societies. To use a telling phrase of the Reverend Martin Luther King, we can say that we have defaulted on a promissory note and now is the time to honor it.

We know by faith that “the Creator does not abandon us; he never forsakes his loving plan or repents of having created us.

Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home”.

As Christians inspired by this certainty, we wish to commit ourselves to the conscious and responsible care of our common home.

The efforts which were recently made to mend broken relationships and to open new doors to cooperation within our human family represent positive steps along the path of reconciliation, justice and freedom.

I would like all men and women of good will in this great nation to support the efforts of the international community to protect the vulnerable in our world and to stimulate integral and inclusive models of development, so that our brothers and sisters everywhere may know the blessings of peace and prosperity which God wills for all his children.

Mr President, once again I thank you for your welcome, and I look forward to these days in your country.

God bless America!

‘FRANCIS EFFECT’ HAS TAKEN HOLD

Within two years of becoming pope, Pope Francis now has an effect named after him.

This “Francis effect” provides both comfort and challenges to Catholics, according to a panel of U.S. Catholic leaders speaking during a March 10 teleconference organized by Faith in Public Life.

Pope Francis “challenges those on the left and the right,” said Kim Daniels, a senior adviser to the group Catholic Voices. For the right, she added, the challenge is “a fresh look at poverty”; for the left, “a fresh look at how to build a culture of life.”

Thoughts for today, #158: “Powerful people don’t want Peace”!!

WarPope

~~May 14, 2015~~

I was born and raised Catholic. I was a practicing, staunch believer. Not anymore. Slowly and surely I drifted away for a myriad of reasons.

The statements, beliefs and ideas of previous popes didn’t jive with mine. I’m still leery of the people of the cloth.

However, this Pope seems to have his feet firmly planted on earth and, in spite of his spiritual faith, seems to know the plight of the people.

I’m still watching and listening to what he says.

The “industry of death” exists in the world as many people in power live off war, Pope Francis told Italian schoolkids in the Vatican on Monday, May 11, 2015.

“Many powerful people don’t want peace because they live off war,” the Pontiff said as he met with pupils from Rome’s primary schools in the Nervi Audience Hall.

Talking to children during the audience organized by the Peace Factory Foundation, he explained that every war has the arms industry behind it.

“This is serious. Some powerful people make their living with the production of arms and sell them to one country for them to use against another country,” the Pope was cited by AGI news agency as saying.

The head of the Catholic Church labeled the arms trade “the industry of death, the greed that harms us all, the desire to have more money.”

“The economic system orbits around money and not men, women,” he told 7,000 kids present at the audience.

Despite the fact that wars “lose lives, health, education,” they are being waged to defend money and make even more profit, the Pope said.
