Thoughts for today, #463 …. “Fluent …. Some Americans don’t understand the concept …. “!!

~~February 4, 2017~~

It seems that some Americans have a problem with people speaking another language besides English.

Somehow the idea that it is more helpful, not to say, a sign of higher educational level,

speaking a language besides English, in some areas in America, may be looked totally insulting.

I speak from personal experience.

I worked with the federal government for many years. I moved to Florida in 1999 and experienced this fact. Folks I worked with minded the times I spoke in Spanish, my main language.

Being fluent in both, I had to mispronounce my name so that Americans understood it.

It’s still the case to this day!

To start the day …. “EDGAR FAMILY BAND…. in America’s Got Talent …. “!!

~~August 25, 2016~~

“America’s Got Talent” Edgar Family Band

Let’s start the day with something nice, sweet, positive and up-lifting.

I saw this band perform in America’s Got Talent.

Their story is inspiring.

Take a look.

Take a deep breath and enjoy!

~Facts You May Like to Know~

This week we saw some of the best contestants on America’s Got Talent, as they performed during the quarter-finals. Out of all these contestants, one will be the winner of this season’s AGT. Although the contestants are all amazing, there is one family in particular that has won over America’s heart.

We are talking about the Edgar Family Band.

During the quarterfinals of America’s Got Talent last night, the Edgar Family enthralled everybody by singing Carole King’s, “You’ve Got A Friend.” The performance by the band was so touching and moving that all the judges gave them a standing ovation!

Heidi Klum said,

“A family that sings together, wins together.”

Nikki was born on August 20, 1981 in California, United States. Her father Greg Leonti was a pastor at the Calvary Southern Baptist church. She started singing at the age of seven as a choir colonist in Calvary Southern Baptist church located in California. The choir also included her three other siblings. Since a very young age, she was into singing. She even recorded her first song on a small scale label.

After her 18th birthday, Nikki got pregnant out of wedlock and was shunned by the Contemporary Christian Music scene.

If you are wondering about the Edgar Family Band ages, then you should know that Jaslyn is 15-years-old, Nikki is 35-years-old and Ryan is 36-years-old.

Nikki is highly talented and her hard work and determination is one of the reasons why her family is standing on the stage today. Of course, you cannot miss out on Ryan Edgar and her daughter’s talent, too.

To start the day …. Diversity, that’s what we have!!

~~July 9, 2014~~

Definition of Diversity

The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect.
It means understanding that each individual is unique,
and recognizing our individual differences.

These can be along
the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs,
political beliefs, or other ideologies.

It is the exploration
of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment.
It is about understanding each other and moving beyond
simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the
rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.

The Code of Ethics …. Anthony Douglas Williams!

~~April 18, 2014~~

Ethical codes are adopted by organizations to assist members in understanding the difference between ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ and in applying that understanding to their decisions.

An ethical code generally implies documents at three levels: codes of business ethics, codes of conduct for employees, and codes of professional practice.

~~General notes~~

Ethical codes are often adopted by management, not to promote a particular moral theory, but rather because they are seen as pragmatic necessities for running an organization in a complex society in which moral concepts play an important part.

They are distinct from moral codes that may apply to the culture, education, and religion of a whole society.

Often, acts that violate ethical codes may also violate a law or regulation and can be punishable at law or by government agency remedies.

Even organizations and communities that may be considered criminal in nature may have ethical codes of conduct, official or unofficial. Examples could include hacker communities, bands of thieves, and street gangs.

In our case, as bloggers, we have an open forum and a reach far more than we could ever imagine. The world is practically within our reach. I say these because I see all the flags in the “flag counter”. Many times, I’m not able to identify all of them. I find it mind-boggling to see how far our messages, news, writings can go.

We do have an influence. We do make a difference.

I treat that with utmost respect.

Keep this in mind, when I found the graphic above, provided by “Inside the Divine Pattern“, written by Anthony Douglas Williams, in knew I had to share.

No to: Bully, Abuse, Harmful, Hate, Curse

Yes to: Respect, Helpful, Truthful, Positive, Peace

To start the day …. Grow flowers!!

~~April 17, 2014~~

~Full Credit/Source for Graphic~

“A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.”

~~James AllenAs a Man Thinketh~~

When you have a positive, healthy attitude toward life, your mind reaps the rewards. But you can’t ignore or deny negative feelings by pretending to be happy either. Ed and Deb Shapiro say you do it by becoming a good gardener, methodically and carefully removing the weeds of discontent while cultivating the beautiful flowers. Find out how to remove negativity from your life in order to see positivity bloom.

Qualities such as kindness, compassion and forgiveness are the seeds you want to plant to cultivate a beautiful mind. But the self-centered ego’s need for grasping, gaining and selfishness easily buries them. You are capable of losing your cool, getting caught up in hot emotions and causing harm.

When you focus only on your own concerns and problems, you become too self-engrossed to really acknowledge anyone else’s issues. These are the weeds you need to pull up, as are moments of closed-heartedness or anger, self-doubt and insecurity. You can bring mercy and tenderness to those places, to the wounded parts, so the fight within you can come to an end. And when you step beyond yourself, then the ability to cultivate kind and caring qualities becomes possible.

Meditation is hugely important in this. In fact, kindness and compassion are such clear outcomes of meditation that there is now an overwhelming amount of research showing how meditation stimulates the circuits in the brain associated with contentment, happiness and the feel-good factor. Dr. Davidson has scientifically studied Buddhist monks while they were meditating. When asked to focus on compassion, their brains reflected a remarkable generation of clarity and intensified kindness. The center is probably the only place in the world where there is a meditation room next to the lab!

“By training the mind, we can actually change the brain toward greater contentment,” Dr. Davidson says in the book. “There is certainly evidence to show that meditation practices designed to cultivate compassion and loving kindness change the brain in many positive ways.”

Practicing meditation regularly can produce discernible changes in the brain in a matter of just eight weeks. This indicates that you can quite purposefully and systematically develop qualities such as kindness and compassion. “Be Good and Do Good” is a great mantra for this!
