Donald Trump Finally Sounded Like a President

For the first time in his presidency, Drumpf acted the part.

“I am here tonight to deliver a message of unity and strength,” he announced from the Speaker’s rostrum moments into his hour-long joint address to Congress on Tuesday night, February 28.

For once, that message bucked his bombastic instincts and channeled the aspirational aims of conventional predecessors. It was perhaps the clearest sign yet that after 40 days in the West Wing, the President is beginning to come to grips with the public responsibilities of the office.

~Clinton Keeps Her Cool~

Monday, September 26, brought the first debate of the presidential season, but it often felt like two separate debates.

One, from Hillary Clinton, was wonky, crisp, and polished; if not always inspiring, it was professional and careful.

The other, from Donald Trump, was freewheeling, aggressive, and meandering, occasionally landing a hard blow but often substance-less and hard to follow. But the two debates intersected at times, sometimes raucously, as Trump repeatedly broke in to interrupt Clinton.

Historically, debates have tended to have little effect on the ultimate result of the election, and little lasting effect on polls. But this was precisely the performance Clinton had wanted.

With polls showing a dead heat, Democrats have been beginning to panic, with the pitch increasing ahead of the debate, as supporters wondered whether Clinton could perform, and whether Trump would shoot himself in the foot or manage to appear presidential.

It’s also tough to predict the response of voters to a debate, and while Trump performances during the GOP primary were often mediocre at best, he still scored high marks with his supporters.

But Clinton’s delight was barely hidden by the end of the night.

When Trump concluded an increasingly angry spiel directed at her—”I have a winning temperament. I know how to win” – the Democrat paused for a brief moment, smiled at the camera, said, “Woo! Okay!” and did a little shimmy before answering.

It was the happiest she had looked in public in the last 20 months.

Ignorance Is Bliss 

Why should I lower my expectations,
To accomodate someone else’s incompetence?
Why should I accept mediocrity …
Because that’s the highest the bar has been risen.
And anything above that,
Is asking for miracles!

Dumbed down you may be,
With a philosophy bordering on self neglect.
That’s you and the way you have chosen to see your life.
But ‘ignorance-is-bliss’ I can not dismiss …
To skip along and whistle like this mindset is alright!
A drugging has been done to delight blind appetites!

Who wins a debate as the nation is set to flames …
With clear leadership non-existing,
Is a moral shame being played out as a blame game.
And folks treating this like a boxing match …
As they discuss who looks presidential,
While thieves seek an escape hatch…is sick! Okay?

You can say what you wish.
But millions of people observing this,
Have to see deception being praised.
And the question of expectation that I have raised,
Seems the wrong thing to ask …
In these days when appearances are more important,
Than the death of reality in the minds of those crazed!

President Obama gave a somber denouncement of the 2016 presidential race’s escalating chaos Saturday, just as the aftershocks of violent clashes between Donald Trump supporters and protesters in Chicago were felt across the country.

“Our leaders — those who aspire to be our leaders — should be trying to bring us together and not turning us against one another and speak out against violence and reject efforts to spread fear or turn us against one another,” the president told supporters at a fundraiser in Dallas.

“And if they refuse to do that, they don’t deserve our support.”

“We should be teaching them how to disagree without being disagreeable and how to engage and how to analyze facts,” Mr. Obama went on, to wild applause.

“And how to be honest and truthful. And admit if you make a mistake. And teach them that politics at its best is about a battle of ideas and resolving our differences without encouraging or resorting to violence.”

Rather, Mr. Obama said, “the best leaders — the leaders who are worthy of our votes — remind us that even in a country as big and diverse and inclusive as ours, what we’ve got in common is far more important than what divides any of us.”

While the president did not name any Republican candidates in particular, his speech seemed to take aim at the current GOP front-runner, whose recent campaign events have seen an uptick in aggression between supporters and anti-Trump activists.
