FAREWELL PRINCESS DIANA

Today, Aug. 31, marks the 18th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.

Loved by many, she was known as the ‘People’s Princess,’ and just because she is gone she is certainly not forgotten.

On 31 August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales died as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris.

The Princess of Wales

After becoming Princess of Wales, Diana automatically acquired rank as the third highest female in the United Kingdom Order of Precedence (after the Queen and the Queen Mother), and as typically fifth or sixth in the orders of precedence of her other realms, following the Queen, the relevant viceroy, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales. Within a few years of the wedding, the Queen extended Diana visible tokens of membership in the Royal Family; she lent the Princess a tiara and granted her the badge of the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.

LEGACY

From her engagement to the Prince of Wales in 1981 until her death in 1997, Diana was a major presence on the world stage, often described as the “world’s most photographed woman” (although other sources split this title between her and Grace Kelly).

She was noted for her compassion, style, charisma and high-profile charity work, as well as her difficult marriage to the Prince of Wales. Her peak popularity rate in the United Kingdom between 1981 and 2012 was 47%.

In 1999, TIME named Diana one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century. In 2002, Diana was ranked 3rd on the BBC’s poll of the 100 Greatest Britons, outranking The Queen and other British Monarchs.
In February 2013, OCAD University in Toronto, Canada, announced that its new arts centre would be named after her, Princess of Wales Visual Arts Centre, a 25,000 square foot facility.
Princess Diana Drive was named in her memory in Trenton, New Jersey, United States.

Prince William and Kate Middleton gave a special tribute to the late Princess, by naming their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Happy Birthday …. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge!!

~~June 21, 2014~~

The British Monarchist Society would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, Duke of Cambridge on this his 32nd Birthday. Prince William is also known as the Earl of Strathearn and the Baron Carrickfergus who is a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle and a Personal Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty The Queen.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge KG KT ADC(P) (William Arthur Philip Louis; born 21 June 1982), is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and his first wife Diana, Princess of Wales. His paternal grandparents are Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He is second in line to succeed his grandmother, after his father.

Prince William was educated at four schools in the United Kingdom and obtained a degree from the University of St Andrews. He spent parts of a gap year in ChileBelizeTanzania, and Kenya, where he has lived and holidayed several times. Prince William has also taken Kiswahili studies at universities in Kenya and Tanzania. He also completed training as an officer (eventually being commissioned as a lieutenant in the Blues and Royals Regiment), and a pilot (earning his wings by completing pilot training at Royal Air Force College Cranwell) in the British military. He then underwent helicopter flying training in order to become a full-time pilot with the Search and Rescue Force.

Prince William married Catherine Middleton, on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey. Hours prior to the event, Buckingham Palace announced that he would be created Duke of CambridgeEarl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus.

Their first child, Prince George of Cambridge, was born on 22 July 2013.

Following the end of his more than seven-and-a-half years of full-time service with the British armed forces, in early 2014, from early January to late March, Prince William will attend a series of seminars, lectures, and meetings in agricultural management at the University of Cambridge.

Prince Charles …..

Image

Prince Charles (His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, KG, KT, GCB, OM, AK, QSO, PC, ADC, Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland) granted a lengthy and exclusive interview to Time.

  • Charles, Prince of Wales, is the eldest child and heir apparent of Queen Elizabeth II. Known alternatively in Scotland as Duke of Rothesay and in South West England as Duke of Cornwall, he is the … Wikipedia

He’s friends with Emma Thompson! “There’s a long history of relationships between Princes of Wales and actors — not just actresses, not just the rude relationships as [Charles] would say, though God knows I’ve tried,” jokes the actress Emma Thompson, one of his close friends. “He wasn’t having any of it.”

The Prince’s Quest: “I feel more than anything else it’s my duty to worry about everybody and their lives in this country, to try to find a way of improving things if I possibly can.”

He’s a healer: “I’ve had this extraordinary feeling, for years and years, ever since I can remember really, of wanting to heal and make things better. … I feel more than anything else it’s my duty to worry about everybody and their lives in this country, to try to find a way of improving things if I possibly can.”

Environmentalism: “We’re busily wrecking the chances for future generations at a rapid rate of knots by not recognizing the damage we’re doing to the natural environment, bearing in mind that this is the only planet that we know has any life on it.”

His personal happiness: Isolated for much of his life, he now takes joy in his “wonderful wife. And of course now a grandson, which is what this is all about. It’s everybody else’s grandchildren I’ve been bothering about, but the trouble is if you take that long a view people don’t always know what you’re on about.”

The idea that William could leap-frog him in the order of succession: “If you chuck away too many things…you end up discovering there was value in them.”

Preservation of Dumfries House: Six years ago he heard that the 18th century mansion in Scotland was to be sold and its collection of Chippendale furnituredispersed. Sight unseen, he formed a consortium and bought building and contents for £45 million, about $72 million, part-financed by a £20 million, $32 million, loan taken out by his charitable foundation. As property prices declined globally, his critics suggested he had been as imprudent as the issuers of the subprimemortgages that triggered the slump, risking the financial health of his established charities on a self-indulgent whim. But in securing Dumfries House, the Prince not only preserved a slice of heritage but also created in one of the most deprived corners of the U.K. a new hub for employment and for training courses run by his charities, and a potential magnet for tourism. His rich dinner guests are donors and potential donors, lured by his royal convening power to a place that needs their help and that would never have drawn their attention without Prince power.

Young Charles ....

Young Charles ….

I found a man not, as caricatured, itching to ascend the throne, but impatient to get as much done as possible before, in the words of one member of his household, “the prison shades” close.

The Queen, at 87, is scaling back her work, and the Prince is taking up the slack, to the potential detriment of his network of charities, initiatives and causes. “We’re busily wrecking the chances for future generations at a rapid rate of knots by not recognizing the damage we’re doing to the natural environment, bearing in mind that this is the only planet that we know has any life on it,” he said at Birkhall.

Those future generations were well represented that day, as his son William, daughter-in-law Kate and their baby George paid him and his wife Camilla a visit. Isolated for much of his life, he now takes joy in his “wonderful wife. And of course now a grandson, which is what this is all about. It’s everybody else’s grandchildren I’ve been bothering about, but the trouble is if you take that long a view people don’t always know what you’re on about.”
