‘DWTS’ Season 23: Laurie Hernández Dazzles, Earns Perfect Score in Week 4
In a special show last night, October 3, competitors on “Dancing With the Stars” performed routines that were all inspired by various Cirque du Soleil shows, and they were even joined on the ballroom floor by Cirque’s acrobats and other performers.
At the end of the night, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernández topped and Val Chmerkovskiy the leaderboard with 30 points – earning not only the first 10s of the season but the season’s first perfect score.

The Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast channeled her inner Michael Jackson for a sassy jazz routine that electrified the ballroom audience and judges and earned her three 10’s for the first perfect score of the season.
During the judges’ critique Julianne Hough initially made amazed faces without speaking, then said:
“I literally have nothing to say other than the fact that Michael Jackson may be the king of pop but you are the queen of the ballroom!”
Laurie Hernandez and Valentin Chmerkovskiy did the Cha Cha to “American Girl” by Bonnie McKee. Streamers fell and the crowd went wild at the end of this energetic routine. Carrie Ann says she never saw Val so happy after an awesome dance. 8-8-7-8 from the judges.
The topping performances were at the end when each judge worked with two couples. Different routines, different music, different styles, different performances.
All of them performed to their hearts content. The choreography was amazing. The coordination was exceptional. It’s sad to see anyone go.

The concept of having an intimate dance between two partners of the same-sex was one that put ABC in a panic in 2015 as the network gave a “definite no” to the idea. Nyle Dimarco and Jodie Sweetin performed with Keo Motsepe and Peta Murgatroyd to “Habanera“.
Well, that was then and this is now … and on Monday’s (May 9) episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” Bruno Tonioli presented a “risky” dance routine to his group of competitors and the result was nothing less than stellar.

Wanya Morris and Ginger Zee wowed the audience during the Judge’s Team Challenge on Dancing with the Stars on Monday (May 9) from Los Angeles.
The two star dancers, along with pro partners Lindsay Arnold and Val Chmerkovskiy, worked with judge Len Goodman for the challenge, who choose the song, dance style and overall creative — a fun Samba set to “Jump in the Line (Shake, Señora)” by Harry Belafonte.
