NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH

I’m 13 years-old and as an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, I’ve lived my whole life by the Missouri River. It runs by my home in Fort Yates North Dakota and my great grandparents original home was along the Missouri River in Cannon Ball. The river is a crucial part of our lives here on the Standing Rock Reservation.

But now a private oil company wants to build a pipeline that would cross the Missouri River less than a mile away from the Standing Rock Reservation and if we don’t stop it, it will poison our river and threaten the health of my community when it leaks.

In Dakota/Lakota we say “mni Wiconi.” Water is life.

Native American people know that water is the first medicine not just for us, but for all human beings living on this earth.

For 41 days, we were ‘treated’ to full coverage of this standoff.

There was ‘invasion’ of federal property, there were guns involved, there was confrontation.

A group of armed anti-government activists remained encamped at a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon one evening in January 2016, vowing to occupy the outpost for years to protest the federal government’s treatment of a pair of local ranchers set to report to prison on a Monday.

Oregon standoff ends after 41 days with dramatic surrender

A Puerto Rican Moment …. “It Happens …. It Never Fades Away”!!

FOREVER PROUD

I was born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico.

As I was growing up, the presence of the USA was everywhere.

I went to a private school run by American Catholic clergy and nuns.

I learned about the goodness and greatness of the USA.

I was proud to be an “American”.

Most are aware of the difficult times Puerto Rico is currently going through.

As an adult now (senior citizen), I’ve learned about the real history of my country.

It’s “master”has ransacked, abused and profitted from it’s “colony”.

Now I know better.

My pride will never fade.

It will never die.

I’m a very proud Puerto Rican!

Nothing says ‘America’ like an ice-cold can of mass-produced beer

Anheuser-Busch announced Tuesday, May 10, 2016, that the company is replacing the Budweiser logo with “America” on its 12-oz. cans and bottles this summer.

The cans of patriotic nectar will be available May 23 through the November election and aim “to inspire drinkers to celebrate America and Budweiser’s shared values of freedom and authenticity.”
