NATIONAL STRIKE
First National Strike Against Donald Trump Planned For 2/17
A growing number of activists are calling for a general national strike against President Drumpf on February 17, 2017
… the Friday before President’s Day.
In addition to the nationwide marches and protests, the first of possibly many general non-violent strikes are meant to send a message of widespread disapproval to Trump, his administration and to the Republicans who enable him.
This grassroots movement is calling for a national general strike on February 17th, 2017 in defense of our nation’s constitution.
Participants pledge to be non-violent. On the day of the strike, we will not go to work (unless absolutely necessary). We will not go to school (unless necessary). We will not spend any money (unless necessary).
Instead, we will show dissent with unconstitutional governance through gatherings and activities to be organized at the local/personal level. Some communities are planning a day of service. Instead of work, strikers will dedicate their time to serving neighbors in need. Find your people.
Make your plan.
SPREAD THE WORD!
~DEMANDS~
1. No Ban, No Wall. The Muslim ban is immoral, the wall is expensive and ineffectual. We will build bridges, not walls.
2. Healthcare For All. Healthcare is a human right. Do not repeal the ACA. Improve it or enact Medicare for All.
3. No Pipelines. Rescind approval for DAPL and Keystone XL and adopt meaningful policies to protect our environment. It’s the only one we’ve got.
4. End the Global Gag Rule. We cannot put the medical care of millions of women around the globe at risk.
5. Disclose and Divest. Show us your taxes. Sell your company. Ethics rules exist for a reason and presidents should focus on the country, not their company.

INAUGURATION PROTEST POSTERS
On Friday, January 20, President-elect Donald Trump will be officially sworn in as the United States of America’s 45th President
A controversial figure, Trump has alienated a substantial amount of Americans throughout the course of his campaign and eye-opening victory. To condemn his platform and protest his presidential plans, countless groups are organizing demonstrations along the National Mall in Washington DC, where the inauguration will take place.
While many of these associations are purely politics-based, The Amplifier Foundation – in collaboration with contemporary artists Shepard Fairey, Ernesto Yerena, and Jessica Sabogal – will bring an artistic touch to the event with We the People, a collection of inspiring inauguration posters.

Rendered in street art’s signature stenciled style, each We the People poster features a powerful portrait of an American citizen. Promoting unity while emphasizing diversity, the series of prints presents people from various walks of life.
One design features a Muslim woman clad in a star-spangled hijab; another depicts a Native American elder; and one even portrays a tender moment between a same-sex couple.
Beneath each patriotic portrait is a message, many of which are defiantly led by “We the People,” the famous first words of the American Constitution.

Although some of the posters look strikingly similar to Fairey’s Hope – a piece popularized during President Obama’s inspiring 2008 campaign – the Amplifier Foundation stresses an important underlying difference between the two projects.
“Eight years ago, the artist Shepard Fairey made the iconic image that captured a period of HOPE in America.
Today we are in a very different moment, one that requires new images that reject the hate, fear, and open racism that were normalized during the 2016 presidential campaign.
So on Inauguration Day, We the People will flood Washington, DC with NEW symbols of hope.”

SUCCESSFUL BLOCKADE
2,500 Native Americans Successfully Block Oil Pipeline Construction
State of Emergency Declared
“This pipeline’s construction is being carried out without the Tribe’s free, prior and informed consent in direct contradiction to their clearly expressed wishes.”
Last week, a few dozen Native Americans showed up to protest the $3.8 billion, 1,172-mile-long pipeline that would cross right through their sacred land. As word spread, however, the few dozen turned into more than 2,500 native Americans. Because of the large turnout, a brief victory ensued for the people after the developers of the four-state oil pipeline agreed to halt construction until after a federal hearing in the coming week.
In spite of both the company building the pipeline, Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners, and the federal government applying pressure, the Native Americans from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe have remained resilient.
On Tuesday, August 23, the government placed a restraining order on the protesters prohibiting them “from interfering with its (Energy Transfer Partners’) right to construct the Dakota Access Pipeline (the “Pipeline”) in accordance with all local, state, and federal approvals it has obtained.”
However, the protestors remained steadfast — and peaceful.
“As we have said from the beginning, demonstrations regarding the Dakota Access pipeline must be peaceful,” Standing Rock Sioux Chairman David Archambault II said in a statement to reporters on August 17.
“There is no place for threats, violence or criminal activity. That is simply not our way. So, the Tribe will do all it can to see that participants comply with the law and maintain the peace.
That was our position before the injunction, and that is our position now.”
“The pipeline presents a threat to our lands, our sacred sites and our waters, and the people who will be affected must be heard,” Archambault told reporters. “Peaceful demonstration can be very powerful and effective.
But the power of peaceful demonstration is only diminished by those who would turn to violence or illegality. We cannot let that happen. The Tribe is committed to doing all it can to make sure that the demonstrations are conducted in the right way.”
In spite of the threat to the sacred land and the unscrupulous action of the state in taking that land on behalf of big oil, government officials maintain their justification.
