THIS GIRL
She’s learning what most women already know.
She’s learning the tactics some people (men and women) will take in order to rationalize disregarding your message.
They’ll criticize your hair – because valuable women should have beautiful hair. They’ll talk about your sexuality – because anytime they don’t like your message, your sexuality is fair game. They’ll talk about your clothes – because valuable women dress a certain way.
And anything bad that happens to women is the result of the clothing they choose. They’ll criticize you because you don’t wear makeup because women, valuable worthy women, wear lipstick.
They’ll deride your tears – because women are so emotional. Never mind the fact that, had the strongest among them gone through what you have, they would cry too. They’ll talk about the patch on your jacket – as if it’s relevant – because they can’t comprehend that a flag belongs, not to a country, but to the people.
They’ll talk about how you should’ve been nicer to the unpopular kid – because, as always, it’s your responsibility to prevent violence against you. Men aren’t expected to behave but women are expected to soothe them and not provoke them. You must behave a certain way and, if you don’t, you deserve to suffer violence or even death.
When you ask for, demand, safety and protection, they’ll tell you that you don’t deserve it.
(They’ll tell you that the real threat to you is texting and driving and that you should just give up your cell phone. As if you wouldn’t gladly give up that and more to change what happened to you and your friends. The real threat is shoot-em-up video games. The real threat is violent movies and television shows like The Walking Dead. Seriously??)
They’ll criticize you if you show strength and they’ll criticize you if you show weakness. If you’re proud, they’ll say you’re arrogant. If you’re vulnerable, they’ll mock you. They’ll show contempt for your intelligence, the fact that you’re well spoken. When you stand up and speak as a woman, they’ll call you a child. When you cry, they’ll tell you to grow up.
Nothing you do or say or become will ever be enough for them. But that’s alright. Keep speaking up and out.
Keep standing true to yourself – wear what you like, love who you love.
Shout, cry, laugh.
Because you, baby girl, are already MORE THAN ENOUGH.
And there are millions of us, who are so proud of you.

HONORING PUERTO RICO
Some of you may know, others not.
I am a fan of tattoos, having a few of them myself.
I’m also Puerto Rican, born and raised, living in the mainland.
Since September 20, 2017, when Hurricane María battered and almost flattened my country, my personal feelings have come to the surface.
My heart and soul ache for Puerto Rico.
Today I visited my tattoo artist again for add ons and updates.
We added a ‘cemí’, several hibiscus flowers and a ‘Taíno coquí’.
A touch of red was added too.
Here they are!
This is a proud Boricua woman, holding her head up high, ready to hold her stand and give the good fight.
This happens in Puerto Rico every minute of every day.
The fortitude of the Puerto Rican woman has been tested during the trying times since Hurricane María battered the Island.
There are still some details and more colors to be added to the artwork.
I wanted to share this with you today.
More will follow when completed.

HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN PUERTO RICO
‘Help Puerto Rico,’ it’s ‘in crisis now’
Mónica Puig is closing in on her new goal of raising $100,000 to assist Puerto Rico after Hurricane María battered the island, insisting that the US territory needs all the help it can get – and immediately.
Puig chose her words carefully when asked if the US’s response has been fast enough but the world No. 77 said:
“The only thing I can say is that we need help and we need it now.
I don’t want to see suffering in Puerto Rico.
“We need all the help we can get from wherever we can get it. I just don’t want to see lives lost due to this crisis. It means a lot, anyone who is willing to help.
“We just need their help as quickly as possible.”
The tennis ace – who became Puerto Rico’s first ever Olympic gold medalist at last year’s Rio Games – says she has been in touch with pop superstar and fellow Puerto Rican Luis Fonsi to see what else can be done to help a week after María battered the island with torrential rains and 155-mile-per-hour winds.

MY HERITAGE
WHERE I COME FROM
Hola, My name is Horty Rexach and just so you know, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico.
My parents met and married in New York City in the 1930’s.
They were from a Beautiful Island of Beautiful People in the middle of the ocean. surrounded by water.
Oh! … and we are Americans!!
Yes, American Citizens!
We speak Spanish and English as well as Spanglish!
Our little island, surrounded by big water, contributes more service members per capita than any other state in the union. We have astronauts, scientists, a Supreme Court Justice, Medal of Honor recipients, legendary sports figures, scholars, Oscar winners actors and actresses, internationally known musicians, and many, many more distinguished citizens who call our little beautiful island their Mother and Father Land.
We are a GORGEOUS and an interesting mix of Native Taíno Indians, Spaniards, African and other European blood that gives us our incredible drive to survive.
I’m Puerto Rican and I’m damn proud of it!!!

~DRUMPF GETS BURNED~
Drumpf is a national embarrassment who never should have been allowed to run for the presidency to begin with. His antics during the campaign and after have divided the country and turned us into an laughingstock around the world.
“The Race” begins with the campaign, takes us to the depressing election, and concludes with the aftermath and what should be done to rid our country of Drumpf.
14-year-old Owen Pallenberg wrote a poem all about Drumpf’s campaign and his various antics at the time and in the present day.

THE RACE
A man and a woman were running a race.
The man dressed in red with a very orange face,
And the woman dressed in blue with a pantsuit and a briefcase.
The race was much longer than a dash, mile or marathon,
And to many Americans it felt like it went on and on.
This was a race of old and new ideas and one thought,
And so the race started with the sound of a gunshot.
The woman dressed in blue was off to a great start,
She was gaining support and was eager to do her part.
However the man in the red was racist and sexist I’m sure you would agree,
He even said he wanted to grab a woman by her …
As the competitors turned the corner you got a glimpse of the fans,
And you could hear in the distance a chant about a man with small hands.
He claimed his hands and feet were quite big,
All while having a bright orange spray tan and a big yellow wig.
About halfway through the race the man was falling behind,
And the supporters of the woman were happy to have saved mankind.
As the competitors were nearing the finish line,
The people in blue were already celebrating and drinking their wine.
The woman approached the finish with a big, wide grin,
But then something happened that seemed to be the work of Vladimir Putin.
The woman fell down and lost her lead,
The win began to feel a lot less guaranteed.
The man hurdled over her body and crossed the finish,
And we all knew our Nation’s reputation would certainly diminish.
The man had somehow done it, he actually won,
The supporters in blue sat in shock and ceased all of their fun.
The man was apparently going to Make America Great Again with his campaign,
And the woman was depressed and had to put away her celebratory champagne .
The results of this race tore apart our land,
As millions of Muslims were immediately banned.
This man can do absolutely no good,
Except run his mouth and claim he was just misunderstood.
The man has stated “we need global warming” for all to hear,
Which has made me quite certain that the end is near.
He has called women ugly and fat,
Which has left me wondering how he could have won the race and done all that.
After insulting and making fun of men and women nationwide,
I’ve become mortified, horrified, and have lost my American pride.
Everytime he talks or makes a speech,
All I can say is impeach, impeach, impeach.

Now we just have to wait until Drumpf becomes the first president to attack a 14-year-old kid.

TINY ISLAND
‘Our Island may be small but it illuminates the world!’
It has a huge heart!
See that tiny speck where the flagpole intends to ‘land on’?
That’s my country.
It’s 100 miles long and 35 miles wide.
There are many incredible people and things that have come from that tiny speck of land.
It’s a historical fact.
Too many to list here.
I am one of them!!

We Will Resist
I go back in time.
Because of my life’s experiences, I use the year 1969 as a reference for the proud emergence of the LGBT community.
I’m well aware that it was there for a long time before 1969.
It wasn’t called that at the time.
The Stonewall Inn riots frame the history for me.
I was 19 years old in 1969, barely coming of age, and realizing that I was ‘different‘.
I did not have a name for it.
I learned about it as the years went by.
In view of the current Republican administration, many of the rights that those before me fought for, may be in jeopardy.

In the past, today and always … these rainbow colors don’t run!
We refuse to go back into the closet!!
