Gay Pride or LGBT Pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.

Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements throughout the world.

Celebrate Brave Voices this Pride

~~Published on Jun 27, 2017~~

In a world where some people still try to silence LGBTQ+ voices, the act of being yourself is an act of bravery for all to see. And in the context of a global climate that highlights the vulnerability of LGBTQ+ rights. It’s more important than ever that LGBTQ+ voices and stories are shared and heard.

An inclusive, vibrant, ever-expanding LGBTQ+ community has been a vital part of YouTube since we started. And we’re proud to stand with a group that believes every human being deserves the right to be who they are and love who they love.

So to all those brave voices who continue to make Youtube the colorful, diverse and supportive place it is, we’re #ProudToBe with you.

YouTube Creators for Change is proud to launch #ProudToBe, our fifth annual Pride campaign.

Creators for Change is YouTube’s global initiative dedicated to amplifying the voices of role models who are tackling difficult social issues with their channels. From combating hate speech, to countering xenophobia and extremism, to simply making the case for greater tolerance and empathy toward others, these creators are helping generate positive social change with their global fan bases.

Google Doodle for today …. “Celebrating the Man Behind the Rainbow Flag … Gilbert Baker …. “!!

GB9

~~June 2, 2017~~

THANK YOU, GILBERT

Baker passed away last year at the age of 65.

Today, he would have turned 66.

Google on Friday, June 2,  used its latest Doodle to celebrate American artist and gay rights activist Gilbert Baker, creator of the rainbow flag that has become a symbol of pride for LGBTQ individuals around the world.

Baker made his way from Kansas to San Francisco with the U.S. Army.

After leaving the military, Baker taught himself to sew and volunteered his skills to make protest banners for the city’s gay community.

In 1978, influential gay leader Harvey Milk challenged Baker to create a new symbol for activists to rally around. The most widely used icon at the time was the pink triangle, reclaimed from the symbol used during World War II to identify gay prisoners being held in Nazi concentration camps.

While it may have been a potent symbol of common suffering and struggle, Baker wanted to create something more positive and celebratory to bind the growing LGBT movement together.

The first rainbow flag Baker put together with volunteers in the attic of the Gay Community Center included eight differently colored horizontal stripes with their own meaning. After Milk’s assassination later that year, demand for the flag exploded and the limited availability of some fabric meant reducing the number of stripes to today’s six.

Gilbert Baker (June 2, 1951 – March 31, 2017) was an openly gay American artist and civil rights activist who designed the rainbow flag in 1978. Baker’s flag became widely associated with LGBT rights causes, a symbol of pride that became ubiquitous in the decades since its debut.

The colors on the Rainbow Flag reflect the diversity of the LGBT community.

When Baker raised the first rainbow flags at San Francisco Pride (his group raised two flags at the Civic Center) on June 25, 1978, it had eight colors, each with a symbolic meaning:

Hot Pink: sexuality
Red: life
Orange: healing
Yellow: sunlight
Green: nature
Turquoise: magic/art
Blue: serenity/harmony
Violet: spirit

‘When We Rise’ …. “The Epic Mini-Series Premieres February 27, tonight …. on ABC …. “!!

WHEN WE RISE

Whoever you are, you are not alone

How I wish I’d heard those words as I was coming up in my life.

I lived through this alone.

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, far away from this struggle.

I struggled on my own until I discovered that I wasn’t the only one who was different.

I discovered others like me.

The process was long and prolonged. There was no internet then. The books that were available were few and difficult to come by.

Yet, I totally identify with the struggle.

That’s why we are not standing down now after the advances made since then.

I thank all of those who came before me.

I refuse to go back into the closet.

~A Love Letter to LGBT Activism~

When We Rise” was written and created by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

This mini-series event chronicles the real-life personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement, from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today.

~Cleve Jones landed in San Francisco too late for the Summer of Love~

Fifty years ago, about 100,000 young people from around the country converged on San Francisco.

They were flower children and hippies, queers and artists, radicals and draft dodgers. A generation of freethinkers looked to the city for change, with resistance, liberation, and free expression unfurling in every corner.

Because of them, the city gave rise to movements in support of the rights of women, African-Americans, gays, farm workers, Native Americans, animals, and even the planet.

Change was everywhere.

ABC’s groundbreaking miniseries When We Rise introduces us to the lives, loves, and struggles of these activists, covering a 40-year span in the long battle for LGBT equality.

Thoughts for today, #463 …. “Preparing for the possible anti-LGBT assault …. Not going back into the closet …. “!!

moovz

~~January 30, 2017~~

THE CLOSET DOOR WAS DESTROYED

The LGBT community has existed since the early days of time.

It wasn’t called that back then.

Great advances were made during the Obama administration which gave our community a sense of equality.

Many came before us who sacrificed to lead us to where we are now.

Harvey Milk was one of the many.

There are also plenty of heroes whose names aren’t know.

With rumors of executive orders coming our way, we mus remain vigilant and ready to stand for our God-given rights as equal human beings.

Not going back into the closet.

HortyRex©

rbline

Harvey Bernard Milk (May 22, 1930 – November 27, 1978) was an American politician who became the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California, when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Politics and gay activism were not his early interests; he was not open about his homosexuality and did not participate in civic matters until around the age of 40, after his experiences in the counterculture of the 1960’s.

IOTD …. Image of the day, #598 …. “Never Surrender …. no matter what …. come what may …. “!!

~~December 4, 2016~~

THERE IS NO GOING BACK

Many are aware of the struggle the LGBT community has gone through since immemorial time.

Let me start at the Stonewall Inn riots in 1969.

This is usually a cut-off point where the LGBT community of the time decided: no more.

We are standing up to abuse and discrimination.

Major goals have been attained since then.

Check list below.

The President-Elect has selected nominees for Cabinet positions.

No one of them has a favorable view of the of the LGBT community and they have expressed their feelings.

It’s not the time to stand down, to go back in the closet.

It’s a time to continue the fight, be vigilant and proud.

Never surrender!
