IN COMMON WITH DRUMPF

Never thought that there’d be anything I’d have in common.

After reading this article in the New Yorker, there could be some points of intersection.

Maybe there are some for you!

Again, I can say for myself, that only humor helps me make it through the day!

I have never read the second half of “Infinite Jest”; I have never read “The Art of the Deal,” by Donald Trump; and other shared attributes.

I love television.

I have almost zero understanding of international politics.

I have not exercised in 2017.

I have never read the second half of “Infinite Jest.”

I have never read “The Art of the Deal,” by Drumpf.

I know it’s silly and will never happen, but I secretly wish that Barack Obama were my best friend.

I have been scared every day since November 8, 2016.

I’m not as good at having sex as I think I am.

I am related to Jewish people whom I don’t understand.

A waiter once forgot to charge me for a drink at a restaurant, and I did not tell him to adjust the check.

Melania Trump has no interest in having sex with me.

When I get really stressed out, I like to watch the film “Finding Dory.”

I have recently Internet-stalked the people who bullied me in middle school.

I need more therapy than I am currently undergoing.

I look awful in hats.

Hillary Clinton is much smarter than I am, and I know it.

I would rather win an Emmy than be in politics.

I would rather win a free drink at the Coffee Bean than be in politics.

Sometimes I wish that dogs could talk. I wonder what they would say.

Not to harp on it, but “Finding Dory” has a plotline that I find easy to follow.

I am not on the correct medication.

I have a recurring nightmare in which my father tells me that he is not proud of me.

I have never had a one-on-one conversation with Tiffany Trump that lasted for longer than ten minutes.

I’m pretty sure I’m not gay, but every once in a while I see an attractive man and I think, Geez, that guy is good-looking.

I hope they make a sequel to “Finding Dory.”

I think that Paul Ryan is a fucking wimp.

I will never understand what it’s like to be a Syrian refugee.

It’s embarrassing to admit, but all I want, deeply and unequivocally, on any given day, at any given hour, is to have someone look me in the eye and tell me, with complete and profound sincerity, “I love you.”

I have never been democratically elected President of the United States.

I found this video yesterday.

As it frequently happens, I found it by chance.

Scrolling through Facebook.

It’s a bit long but it’s worth every minute.

It’s a very badly needed message.

This is a video from New Years Eve 2016.

It applies more and more … as these 50+ days of ‘leadership‘ have gone by.

I think it’s a gem!

~This is the message I have been craving to hear~

My ears ache after listening to line after negative line in the news, reading the political drama on Facebook, and reading my family’s and friends’ opinions.

These words are weighing me down with heavy, uneasy feelings about the future.

We’ve marched, signed petitions, and called our senators, and the news is not changing. People are tired. I am tired. Life doesn’t seem fair.

We need a pep talk – and I’ve found one.

Valerie Kaur‘s powerful and uplifting look at our world today is so refreshing in this chaotic climate.

As an award-winning filmmaker, civil rights lawyer, media commentator, Sikh activist and interfaith leader, Kaur’s work of storytelling inspires social change. This video from New Year’s Eve has the call for 2017. I needed this passionate and beautiful speech. Hers is a realistic voice asking me a valid question:

Sikhism is a monotheistic religion, and the basic Sikh belief is represented in the phrase Ik Onkar meaning “One God.”

Sikhism was founded in the Punjab region in India in the 15th century by Guru Nanak Dev. Sikhism broke from Hinduism due, in part, to its rejection of the caste system.

It consists of three weapons and a circle: the khanda, two kirpans and the chakkar which is a circle.

It is the military emblem of the Sikhs.

It is also part of the design of the Nishan Sahib. A double edged khanda (sword) is placed at the top of a Nishan Sahib flag as an ornament or finial.

For the first time in his presidency, Drumpf acted the part.

“I am here tonight to deliver a message of unity and strength,” he announced from the Speaker’s rostrum moments into his hour-long joint address to Congress on Tuesday night, February 28.

For once, that message bucked his bombastic instincts and channeled the aspirational aims of conventional predecessors. It was perhaps the clearest sign yet that after 40 days in the West Wing, the President is beginning to come to grips with the public responsibilities of the office.

I thought I had it together. I thought I was moving on, “getting over it” as the world kept telling me to. She lost, he won. The only thing we can do is keep fighting. We are seeds, we are safety pins, we are stronger together.

The realization hitting me.

And here was the root of my pain. This wasn’t just about the disappointment that my candidate lost. Or the fear of what Trump will do to this country. It felt like my very soul hurt and I realized that it was because of what this election said to me as a woman. It said no.

I am Her.

Every woman is, whether they know it or not. Every woman has been held back by, pushed down by, grabbed in the pussy by sexism that cannot, will not, allow a woman to rise higher than a man. The misogyny that pulses through this world, the blood that keeps the dick of American patriarchy hard, it penetrates us from the day we are born. Smile pretty. Be good. Be quiet.

Hillary Clinton stood up for women and when the world slapped her back down, my cheek felt the sting. I know that there is work to be done, battles to fight, toddlers to raise into Nasty Women.

IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

Microsoft’s 2016 holiday advertisement celebrates the accomplishments of ordinary people who worked hard to make 2016 a better year for everyone.

The global tech company worked with the ad agency McCann to bring eight changemakers into the same room to create artwork that reflects their “vision of hope, peace and beauty.”

The “Art of Harmony” ad featured people like Zianna Oliphant, a young girl who pleaded for justice at the Charlotte City Council after the police shooting of Keith Scott in North Carolina, Christopher Catrambone, an entrepreneur who founded the Migrant Offshore Aid Station to help rescue migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea, and Jazz Jennings, a transgender activist.

“This year has been challenging for many and much of what we hear in the news can be negative. Microsoft wanted to lift people up and remind them that ordinary people can make a difference.

The message focuses on the spirit of the holidays, people coming together and celebrating what is good and right with the world – what unites us, instead of what divides us.”

Microsoft said.

The ad will run throughout the holiday season on television and online, in markets throughout the world.
