WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION?

IT HAD TO BE A WOMAN

I’ve used this picture before.

I believed in the power of it and my feelings reflect hers without doubt. If I had the opportunity of doing this, I would’ve done the same.

She continues to be a ‘shero’ to me.

The picture, snapped by a White House photographer traveling with the president as he left his golf course in Sterling, Va., went viral almost immediately. News outlets picked up the story when it appeared in a White House pool report. Late-night talk show hosts told jokes about the encounter and people on social media began hailing the unidentified woman as a “she-ro,” using the hashtag #Her2020.
The woman’s name is Juli Briskman.

Her employer, government contractor Akima LLC, wasn’t so happy about the photo. They fired her over it.

Asked what she was thinking when she saw Trump’s motorcade roll up next to her, Briskman said it was a gut reaction to flip him off.
“He was passing by and my blood just started to boil,” she said. “I’m thinking, DACA recipients are getting kicked out. He pulled ads for open enrollment in Obamacare. Only one-third of Puerto Rico has power. I’m thinking, he’s at the damn golf course again.”
“I flipped off the motorcade a number of times,” she added.

Briskman, a Democrat, said she plans to look for a new job with an advocacy group that she believes in, like Planned Parenthood or PETA.

“In some ways, I’m doing better than ever,” she said. “I’m angry about where our country is right now. I am appalled.

This was an opportunity for me to say something.”

Despite getting fired, she said she has no regrets about the attention her public show of displeasure with Drumpf received.

In fact, she said she’s happy to be an image of protest that resonates with many Americans.

THE SUICIDE OF A PRESIDENCY

The term enemy of the people is a fluid designation of political or class opponents of the group using the term

The term implies that the “enemies” in question are acting against society as a whole.It is similar to the notion of “enemy of the state“.

The term originated in Roman times as Latin: hostis publicus, typically translated into English as the “public enemy“.

The term in its “enemy of the people” form has been used for centuries in literature

(An Enemy of the People, the play by Henrik Ibsen, 1882).

Currently this form is mostly used as a reference to Soviet phraseology.

ON A JOURNEY TO HEALTH

I’m every woman ….

This is a journey that resonates deeply with me. I have been on this journey since early childhood. I know what it means to be overweight, out of shape and “chunky” in every sense of the word.

I have tried almost all and any weight loss program you can think of. Many times I was successful in losing weight. The problem has always been keeping it off. Physical activity is a must. There was a time, as an adult, that I even had my very own personal trainer.

Currently, I’m trying again. Yet, the process gets harder as we get older. The old body is not able to “perform” as it did during earlier times. The mind is willing yet the body says “no way, José”.

I commend Oprah for embarking on this journey one more time in her life. I wish her all the success there is.

Now, it’s not a matter of looking good. It’s a matter of being healthy.

Oprah Winfrey new Weight Watchers commercial is creating an emotional outpouring online. In the ad – Winfrey’s first since announcing her involvement with the company back in October – the 61-year-old media mogul talks candidly about her struggle with weight loss.

“Inside every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be. Many times you look in the mirror and you don’t even recognize your own self because you got lost, buried in the weight that you carry,” she says.

“Nothing you’ve ever been through is wasted. So every time I tried and failed, every time I tried again, and every time I tried again, has brought me to this most powerful moment to say, ‘If not now, when?’”
