HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, DAD!

Today I honor my Dad, who is not here with me on the earthly plane anymore.

I have written a few things about him yet I don’t get tired of doing so.

My father was born in the small town of Juncos, in the Island of Puerto Rico in 1911. He came from humble beginnings and faced all the trials and tribulations that life threw his way.

His family was a large one. Many brothers and sisters. He was the oldest.

The stories I remember about that time as sketchy.

None of the siblings are alive at this time.

However, I do remember that he studied accounting. He immigrated to New York City in the early 1930’s (as many Puerto Ricans were doing) in search for the famous “American dream”.

He worked at anything he could find.

I remember that he worked as a bell boy for one of the hotels.

He sent money back home to help his family.

He made it possible for his brothers to go to college and become the successful engineers who started the

Rexach Construction Company“.

From his accounts and personal concerns, it seems that he was subjected to discrimination directed to many of the Puerto Rican immigrants, a feeling he felt for many years.

He met my Mother there and they married in 1934.

They soon returned to Puerto Rico.

They got settled and started the family.

My Dad was a wizard at finances.

I don’t know how he did it but he put both my brother and me through private school and also through college.

I went to medical school, completed my training and never owed a cent in loans.

Most of all, he taught me about life … not through conversations but through example. I knew he was very proud of me and what I accomplished in my life … he rarely spoke the words but he definitely showed me.

He wasn’t “touchy-feely” but he was always there.

I am who I am, I have what I have, I am where I am because of you Dad.

Today I thank you and honor you.

I miss you … I wish you were here still but such is life.

You live within me … in my heart, in my mind, in my memories, in my DNA.

You were and you are the best father a daughter could have.

THANK YOU, DAD!

This music video ‘Dance With My Father Again‘ is about a child who misses his dear father who passed away. Grieving for the loss of his father and feels the pain for his mother.

“Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around till I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

Chorus:
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end ….

How I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again”
