WOMEN AND ELECTIONS

We did it in 2012.

We will do it again in 2016.

A glass ceiling was broken at the Democratic National Convention with the nomination of the first woman for President of the United States.

The same thing will happen tomorrow.

There has been much discussion about the demographic makeup of the 2012 electorate, and one thing is clear: Women’s voices determined the outcome of the election.

Across the board, women made the difference.

Here are seven key facts about women voters and the gender gap in the 2012 elections.

Women were the majority of voters

The gender gap grew to 10 points

Women decided the 2012 election

The gender gap extends beyond women of color

The top issues for women were the economy and a candidate who will fight for them

Extreme remarks and candidates changed the debate

Abortion and women’s health issues played a real role

HORTY, THE RIVETER

Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon of the United States, representing the American women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, many of whom produced munitions and war supplies.

These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who were in the military. Rosie the Riveter is commonly used as a symbol of feminism and women’s economic power.

Similar images of women war workers appeared in other countries such as Britain and Australia. Images of women workers were widespread in the media as government posters, and commercial advertising was heavily used by the government to encourage women to volunteer for wartime service in factories.

It is a well know fact that Puerto Rico is going through very tough times.

I am using this image today and had my picture photo-shopped into it with the intention of showing that Puerto Rican women are ready to pull their sleeves up, get to work and get things done in Puerto Rico.

In view of the fact that Puerto Rican men involved with politics seem to need replacement, we are here …. willing and able to take their places and get the job done.

Translation:

We can. Of course we can!!

A dear blogger friend taught me this concept.

~IN HER OWN WORDS~

IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”

THIS MAY SEEM FUNNY BUT IT’S NO JOKE FOR ME!
