A Day in the Life” is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released as the final track of their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Credited to Lennon–McCartney, the verses were written mainly by John Lennon, with Paul McCartney primarily contributing the song’s middle section. Lennon’s lyrics were inspired by contemporary newspaper articles, including a report on the death of Guinness heir Tara Browne.

Hey everyone! Here’s my arrangement of A Day In The Life by The Beatles, similarities to the Edgar Cruz Arr. This is one of my all time favorite songs by The Beatles. The melody, story, tempo changes and key changes are just so well done.

Hope you enjoy my version! Thanks for watching!

~~July 1, 2014~~

Several moons ago, I arrived on this planet through the grace of my parents, Hortensia Rexach and Jose F. Rexach. They had me in their 40s. They raised me to be the best that I could be. They gave me all that I needed to be happy, educated, successful, integrated, complete and realized.

Thanks to them I’m here to celebrate another year in my life.

I remember when The Beatles burst into the music scene and slowly became worldwide known. As their career grew and eventually changed, so did the style of their songs. They grew with the times … the 60s and 70s.

I remember so clear when this song came out … I knew the lyrics and wondered how it would feel “when I’m 64”!

~~NOW I KNOW~~

When I’m Sixty-Four” is a song by the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney) and released in 1967 on their album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

(LOVE THIS ALBUM)

~~Composition~~

The song is sung by a young man to his lover, and is about his plans of growing old together with her. Although the theme is ageing, it was one of the first songs McCartney wrote, when he was only 16. It was on the Beatles playlist in their early days as a song to perform when the amplifiers broke down or the electricity went off. Both George Martin and Mark Lewisohn speculated that McCartney may have thought of the song when recording began for Sgt. Pepper in December 1966 because his father turned 64 earlier that year.

Lennon said of the song, “Paul wrote it in the Cavern days. We just stuck a few more words on it like ‘grandchildren on your knee’ and ‘Vera, Chuck and Dave’ … this was just one that was quite a hit with us.” In his 1980 interview for Playboy he said, “I would never even dream of writing a song like that.”

~~LYRICS~~

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now,
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine?

If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?

oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
You’ll be older too, (ah ah ah ah ah)
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck, and Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view.
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, Wasting Away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?

Whoo!
