I’m still catching up from the list that she’s given me. She told me I better get on it. So, here I am!!

Shake It Off” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift for her fifth studio album, 1989 (2014). Written by Swift, Max Martin and Shellback, the single, a departure from her signature country pop-musical style, is an uptempo pop track instrumented by saxophone.

The song premiered during a Yahoo! live stream session on August 18, 2014; its music video was also released the same day. Several hours later, “Shake It Off” was made available for digital download as the lead single from 1989.

Shake It Off” received mostly positive reviews from music critics, who praised its musical style. Meanwhile, the music video received mixed reception, and was additionally criticized for a scene which involved twerking. “Shake It Off” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week ending September 6, 2014, becoming Swift’s second number one single in the United States and the 22nd song to debut at number one in the chart’s history.

This tune is catchy and fun. I’m not sure that it would be cool for her to watch this video. I wonder if she already has seen it!

Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
Katy Perry
“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” is a song by American recording artist Katy Perry. The song was produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin, who also co-wrote the song with Perry and Bonnie McKee at Playback Recording Studio for Perry’s third studio album, Teenage Dream. Perry stated that she was inspired to write the track after a night of wild partying and streaking. It was released as the album’s fifth single on June 6, 2011 through Capitol Records with a remix featuring American hip-hop recording artist Missy Elliott released to U.S. radio stations and digital retailers on August 8, 2011; this version was included in Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection edition. Musically, the song is a prominent pop song with dance-pop influences, while the lyrics are about drunken fun and debauchery. Some of the risque lyrics in the song are often censored in radio versions of the song. The “T.G.I.F.” in the title is an acronym for “Thank God It’s Friday”.

The song had chart success in North America, reaching number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Hot 100. It also topped U.S. charts such as the Hot Digital Songs, Pop Songs, Radio Songs, and Hot Dance Club charts, as with all of her previous singles. It also reached number one in Slovakia and the Czech Republic and has attained top-ten positions in Austria, Ireland, Italy, and Poland.

KP2

With “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)“, Perry set a record for a female solo artist, having amassed five number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 off a single album. This makes Perry the second artist in the 53 year history of the chart to amass five number one singles from a single album — the first was Michael Jackson. The song became Perry’s sixth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and her fifth consecutive number one single. The song joins the set’s first four singles, all of which reached No. 1: “California Gurls”, featuring Snoop Dogg; “Teenage Dream’, “Firework”, and “E.T.”, featuring Kanye West.

After the song reached number 1 in the Pop Songs airplay chart, “Teenage Dream” became the only album in history to have 5 number 1’s from the same album on that chart. Also, when the song reached number one in the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart, the album become the only album in history to have 4 number 1’s from the same album on the chart. As of June 2014, the single had sold 4 million digital copies in the United States alone. On January 5, 2012, according to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)” was elected the tenth most played single on U.S. radio during 2011 with 450,000 plays.

“Icona Pop – I Love It”

I just watched the video, heard the song and read the lyrics. This is one racy song.

I’m sure that Angelika hasn’t seen this youtube video. The tune and the beat are really catchy. I can understand why she likes it. She listens to these songs on the radio. I’m sure some words are “beeped out”. This is one video that she doesn’t need to see at her current age.

I Love It” is a song by Swedish synthpop duo Icona Pop featuring British recording artist Charli XCX. It was released in May 2012 as a digital download in Sweden, where it peaked at number two on the singles chart. The song was added to their debut studio album Icona Pop, as well as their EP Iconic and their debut international album This Is… Icona Pop.

MusicB

The song received positive reviews from music critics, and publications Rolling Stone and Pitchfork included it on their year-end lists for 2012. The song went on to become Icona Pop and Charli XCX’s first US hit, peaking at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting over 2 million copies sold in the United States.

In July 2013, over a year after it was released elsewhere, the song charted at #1 on the UK Singles chart. It has gone on to sell 2.6 million downloads.

ICONA POP

The song was originally written by Charli XCX, whom Icona Pop met several times in London. Swedish producer Patrik Berger sent Charli two beats, and she quickly wrote songs for each of them, one of which became “I Love It” and the other of which became her following single “You’re the One“. However, she later stated that she knew she would not end up releasing it herself because she could not reconcile it with her sound.

While recording “Good for You” with Icona Pop, Berger presented them with Charli’s work on “I Love It”. Band member Aino Jawo said she felt a connection to the song because it mirrored her own experiences, and the line “You’re from the 70s but I’m a 90s bitch” reminded her of an older man she had known.

Member Caroline Hjelt described Charli XCX’s original demo as “more cute, in a way …really cool and cocky”. Icona Pop approached Swedish producer Style of Eye to make a rougher version of the track, telling him, “We want the punkiness. We want the ‘f*ck it’ feeling.”

For today … here it is!

Firework” is a song by American recording artist Katy Perry from her third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010). Perry co-wrote the song with its producers, StarGate and Sandy Vee, with additional writing from Ester Dean, making this the only single and one of seven songs from Teenage Dream to not be co-written or produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke. The song is a self-empowerment anthem with inspirational lyrics, and was considered by Perry as an important song for her on Teenage Dream.

Firework” received mostly positive reviews from music critics, with some noting its catchy melody and danceable beat and comparing it to songs by English band Coldplay. The song was commercially successful, reaching the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 and the top five on 20 charts around the world. The song was released on October 18, 2010 by Capitol Records as the third single from the album. As of December 2012, the song has sold over 6 million copies in the US alone, making Perry the only artist with three songs topping the 6 million mark.

It is also the best selling song that was a third single or older, that wasn’t a part of a re-release. On the week ending of January 8, 2011, “Firework” sold 509,000 digital downloads in the US, which is the fifth highest amount ever sold by a female artist behind Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (623,000), Kesha‘s “Tik Tok” (610,000), Perry’s own “Roar” (557,000), tied with Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way” (509,000) and the sixth highest sales week overall. The song is the third consecutive number-one single of the same album; the last female singer who achieved this was Monica in 1998.

KP2

An accompanying music video, directed by Dave Meyers, was released on October 28, 2010. It portrays Perry singing and dancing around Budapest, with interspersed scenes of young people becoming confident in themselves. An open casting call for the music video drew an unprecedented 38,000 applicants. On Much Music‘s top 50 videos of 2010, “Firework” reached the top position.

The music video was said to be a more upbeat take on Christina Aguilera‘s message in “Beautiful“. It was nominated for three awards at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, eventually winning one of those, the Video of the Year, the main and final award. “Firework” was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 54th Grammy Awards. On January 5, 2012, “Firework” was elected the fifth most played single on U.S. radio during 2011 by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, with 509,000 plays.

“Problem” … by Ariana Grande

BJWordPressDivider

Problem” is a song recorded by American recording artist Ariana Grande, featuring a guest appearance from Australian recording artist Iggy Azalea.

The song was released by Republic Records on April 28, 2014, as the lead single from Grande’s upcoming second studio album My Everything. The song was written by Savan KotechaIlyaMax Martin and Azalea, and produced by the latter two along with Shellback. “Problem” is an uptempo pop and R&B song which comprises a melody based on drumssaxophone loops and trumpets.

The chorus features uncredited background vocals from American hip hop artist Big Sean. Lyrically, Grande has stated that the song is about “the feeling of being absolutely terrified to re-approach a relationship that’s gone sour — but you want to more than anything”.

Prob

Problem” received generally positive reviews from music critics; many appreciated its overall production for its inclusion of a saxophone loop, while others praised the song’s throwback sound and ’90s influence. The song debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 selling 438,000 copies in its first week on sale, earning Grande her biggest digital song sales week ever. The song later peaked at number two, surpassing “The Way” as her biggest hit single in the United States.

It also became Azalea’s second-highest charting single in the US, after her own single “Fancy“. “Problem” performed well internationally, debuting at the top of the charts in Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom and peaking within the top ten of the charts in most other territories, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, and Greece. “Problem” also made British chart history upon its debut as the first song to top the charts in Britain based on both sales and streaming. It also topped the charts in Scotland and Ireland, as well as the Billboard Pop and Rhythmic Songs airplay charts.

To promote the song, Grande performed at the 2014 Radio Disney Music Awards as the ceremony’s opening, at the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Awards, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. The song’s accompanying music video was filmed the following day after its release with Nev Todorovic as the director and premiered on VEVO on May 30, 2014. The single has been certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
