Pope Francis …. “Speech Given by the Pope at the White House”!!

~~September 23, 2015~~

Read the Speech Pope Francis Gave at the White House

I remembered about the Pope’s visit to the White House this morning just in time.

I turned the TV on and there he was … starting to speak his words.

I’m so happy I didn’t miss it.

It’s a speech for history.

He touched on so many current topics. He proved that he’s very much aware and in touch with the current topics that affect our society and our world.

His cadence, his presence, his aura … all proving how special this Pontiff is.

His words touched my heart.

Pope Francis spoke at a welcoming ceremony for his U.S. visit at the South Lawn of the White House Wednesday, September 23, 2015, before a crowd of 15,000.

Here is a transcript of his speech, according to prepared remarks released by the Vatican.

Mr. President,

I am deeply grateful for your welcome in the name of all Americans.

As the son of an immigrant family, I am happy to be a guest in this country, which was largely built by such families.

I look forward to these days of encounter and dialogue, in which I hope to listen to, and share, many of the hopes and dreams of the American people.

During my visit I will have the honor of addressing Congress, where I hope, as a brother of this country, to offer words of encouragement to those called to guide the nation’s political future in fidelity to its founding principles. I will also travel to Philadelphia for the Eighth World Meeting of Families, to celebrate and support the institutions of marriage and the family at this, a critical moment in the history of our civilization.

Mr. President, together with their fellow citizens, American Catholics are committed to building a society which is truly tolerant and inclusive, to safeguarding the rights of individuals and communities, and to rejecting every form of unjust discrimination.

With countless other people of good will, they are likewise concerned that efforts to build a just and wisely ordered society respect their deepest concerns and their right to religious liberty.

That freedom remains one of America’s most precious possessions. And, as my brothers, the United States Bishops, have reminded us, all are called to be vigilant, precisely as good citizens, to preserve and defend that freedom from everything that would threaten or compromise it.

Mr. President, I find it encouraging that you are proposing an initiative for reducing air pollution.

Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me also that climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation.

When it comes to the care of our “common home”, we are living at a critical moment of history.

We still have time to make the changes needed to bring about “a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change”.

Such change demands on our part a serious and responsible recognition not only of the kind of world we may be leaving to our children, but also to the millions of people living under a system which has overlooked them. Our common home has been part of this group of the excluded which cries out to heaven and which today powerfully strikes our homes, our cities and our societies. To use a telling phrase of the Reverend Martin Luther King, we can say that we have defaulted on a promissory note and now is the time to honor it.

We know by faith that “the Creator does not abandon us; he never forsakes his loving plan or repents of having created us.

Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home”.

As Christians inspired by this certainty, we wish to commit ourselves to the conscious and responsible care of our common home.

The efforts which were recently made to mend broken relationships and to open new doors to cooperation within our human family represent positive steps along the path of reconciliation, justice and freedom.

I would like all men and women of good will in this great nation to support the efforts of the international community to protect the vulnerable in our world and to stimulate integral and inclusive models of development, so that our brothers and sisters everywhere may know the blessings of peace and prosperity which God wills for all his children.

Mr President, once again I thank you for your welcome, and I look forward to these days in your country.

God bless America!

To start the day …. “Ellen and Michelle” (FLOTUS, that is)!!

~~March 14, 2015~~

Michelle Obama and Ellen DeGeneres Break It Down to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”

First Lady Michelle Obama taped Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. While her husband read “mean tweets” for the late-night set, Michelle got people moving and grooving with Ellen DeGeneres.

“You’re doing something new at the White House for the Easter Egg Roll, right?” the host asked.

“In honor of the fifth anniversary of the Let’s Move campaign I’ve issued this challenge. We’re calling it #GimmeFive and we’re using the hashtag #GimmeFive on social media,” Michelle said. “We’re asking folks all across the country to #GimmeFive ways their leading a healthy life. We’ve got a lot of celebrities involved,” she said, thanking Beyoncé, Nick Jonas and Ryan Seacrest for their involvement. “We’re gonna take over the Easter Egg Roll this year with a #GimmeFive dance, and actually the So You Think You Can Dance all stars are coming to the Easter Egg Roll to teach the whole South Lawn this dance.”

She added, “I have actually challenged this woman right here to learn the #GimmeFive dance.”

The audience cheered as Ellen revealed that she’s been “practicing somewhat.” The comedian continued, “I’m very busy, very, very busy and I’m not really good at choreography. I’m more of a free style.”

“You’re more street?” Michelle asked, which Ellen confirmed. The Finding Dory star then admitted, “I have tried to learn the dance, and so if that’s your challenge. You have learned the dance I assume?”

“Yeah, I’ve been … I’m busy, too, you know!” Michelle said with a laugh. “But I have taken lessons backstage. I just sort of looked over and I just thought, ‘Maybe we can do this’ … if you’re up for the challenge!” Ellen agreed, but added, “The thing is your people said you’ve been practicing for a year so.”

“My people?” Michelle asked. “You think I have people?”

“Yeah, so many people,” the comic joked. “Everyone was telling me. Well, listen, I’m in better shape than you so what we’ll do is …I mean, we know that from the push-up competition in February 2012.”

“Yes, clearly,” Michelle joked before clarifying that she won the push-up competition.

“You did not,” Ellen protested. Michelle fired back, “I did! I absolutely did!”

Ellen jokingly accused Michelle of cheating, then made peace. “OK, let’s not argue. You’re pretty.”

Michelle suggested that they see who’s more in shape “here, now.”

“A push-up competition again?” Ellen asked. FLOTUS replied, “No! No! The #GimmeFive.”

“Look how scared you were of that!” the host joked.

“Don’t let me take off my jacket,” Michelle joked. “Don’t make me take off my jacket!”

“As it appears in … full read”
