Is He a Danger to Society?

Members of Congress, Nobel laureates, and the Puerto Rican government say 33 years was enough for Oscar López Rivera.

Now it’s up to Obama.

López Rivera himself seems guardedly optimistic. Every Saturday, Puerto Rico’s main newspaper, El Nuevo Dia, publishes letters from López Rivera to his granddaughter. Last November, he wrote:

The future for me is something unpredictable … Puerto Rico has changed. So has the Chicago of my adolescence.

Those nights when i stay awake thinking about my projects, I animate myself by telling myself that, at the end, I have survived 70+ years and I have walked beneath the shadow of death many times.

If a man has managed to survive this, how is he going to be afraid of the free air when it hits him in the face?

PUERTO RICO IS A COLONY OF THE USA

THE AMERICAN EMPIRE IS ALIVE AND WELL

I’m aware that the graph above only mentions Puerto Rico.

I found this graph in a Facebook Page dedicated to Puerto Rican issues.

Yet, as I went looking further, the USA has actually sixteen territories.

Five of these are inhabited.

The rest are small islands, atolls and reefs.

What do you call a country that is the “owner” of lands beyond its borders?

There’s a question that confounded Pedro Albizu Campos, is now being asked:

“How is it that owning one man (slavery) makes you a scoundrel, but owning a nation (Puerto Rico) makes you a colonial benefactor?”

American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the US Virgin Islands are also considered to have a colonial relationship with the US because its citizens are also subject to the laws of the US Congress passed without their consent.

These territories, along with Puerto Rico, are known as unincorporated territories.

Currently, there are sixteen territories of the United States, five of which are permanently inhabited: Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

Ten territories are small islands, atolls and reefs, spread across the Caribbean and Pacific, with no native or permanent populations:

Palmyra Atoll, Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Wake Island, Midway Islands, Navassa Island and Serranilla Bank.

More than half of all Puerto Ricans live in the continental U.S., a number that continues to increase, thus representing a key component in the American political process. Stand Up for Puerto Rico calls on leaders to unite in a peaceful and diplomatic way, to define an economic and social strategy for prosperity in Puerto Rico.

Should Puerto Rico Become A State?

Puerto Rico is $72 billion in debt, but it can’t declare bankruptcy as a territory.

So should the U.S. come to Puerto Rico’s aid?

We ALL are ONE!!

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. I currently live in Florida - since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs. I also worked for the government of Puerto Rico from 1979 through 1985 .... for a total of almost 40 years as a physician. I want to offer any knowledge that I have to anyone "out there" who is interested. My views are liberal in almost every sense. My knowledge is "eclectic" - a bit of everything. Music and reading are my passion. Blogging has also become a very interesting endeavor. Metaphysical topics attract me. I'm interested in news - reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse - the "wrongly" affected. My intention is to bring this knowledge to an understandable level and to help anyone in need. I'm open to questions and will answer them to the best of my ability. Currently working on an enterprise whose main mission will be to bring peoples of all walks of life together. To be one .... since we ALL are ONE!! The future looks bright and promising!!!
