This week, like most weeks in the Drumpf era, has been filled with harrowing headlines: the Supreme Court upheld Drumpfâs Muslim travel ban, Supreme Court Justice – Anthony Kennedy – announced his retirement, and on Thursday, there was a mass shooting at the Capital Gazette. And thatâs not even mentioning the continued stories of asylum-seeking children who have been separated from their parents, with no clear plan as to how to reunite them.
In the face of such a deluge, it can be hard to know how to process everything – but on Thursday nightâs Late Show, Stephen Colbert welcomed a guest who could help, at least a little.
And as Jon Stewart climbed out from under the comedianâs desk, it quickly became clear that this would be one of his more scorching appearances.
âWhat Drumpf wants is for us to stop calling his cruelty and fear and divisiveness
wrong, but to join in calling it right,â the former Daily Show host said on Thursdayâs Late Show, June 28.
âThis we cannot do. And by not yielding, we will prevail.â
John Mellencamp capped off a haunting rendition of his politically charged anthem âEasy Targetâ with a powerful statement on Thursdayâs episode of âThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert.â
The musician dropped down to one knee and raised a fist into the air as his performance drew to a close.
The track itself, which Mellencamp released on the eve of ‘so-called President’ Drumpfâs inauguration in January 2017, addresses racial inequality and references the Black Lives Matter movement.
The lyrics include:
So Black Lives Matter, who we tryinâ to kid.
Hereâs an easy target. Donât matter, never did.
Crosses burning such a long time ago, 400 years and we still donât let it go.
Video of Mellencampâs âLate Showâ protest is now going viral, poignantly coming as it did ahead of this Sundayâs Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.
NFL players have invoked the wrath of Drumpf and the presidentâs supporters in recent months for following the lead of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in taking a knee during the national anthem before games to protest police brutality and racial injustice.
I didn’t know anything about this woman before Hurricane MarĂa battered my country, Puerto Rico
The first images I saw from my country, after the hurricane, showed her working, wading through flood waters, calling on her constituents. Since then, I’ve heard people disparage her real intent. Yet, to me, she has been to voice for my country. She keeps the spotlight on the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico. Will she benefit from this?
I don’t know and I don’t care … as long as Puerto Rico’s crisis remains in the forefront rather than a back burner.
Itâs been two months since Hurricane MarĂa all but destroyed much of Puerto Rico. And itâs been more than a month or so since most late-night comics ran out of material about Drumpf blaming these American citizens for their own misfortune, whipping paper towels at them like he was trying to win a stuffed animal at the fair, and his administration awarding a sweetheart deal to a tiny energy firm with no experience and two full-time employees that just so happened to be from the hometown of Drumpfâs Interior Secretary and financed by a major Drumpf donor to fix the islandâs power grid.
Stephen Colbert took some time on Wednesdayâs Late Show, November 29, to let San Juan Mayor Carmen YulĂn Cruz both thank the American people for their continued help and goodwill in the disasterâs aftermath, and to use her time there to continue her criticism of Trumpâs characteristic lack of both.

San Juan Mayor Carmen YulĂn Cruz explains how Puerto Rico could be negatively impacted by Trump’s proposed tax plan.
âThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertâ inducted San Juan Mayor Carmen YulĂn Cruz into its âTrump Attacked Me On Twitterâ Hall of Fame on Wednesday night, November 29,
Cruz was bestowed the honor following her feud with President Donald Trump, which began when she criticized the federal response to Hurricane Mariaâs destruction in Puerto Rico.
In accepting the award, Cruz continued with her criticism of Trump.
She called him a âbullyâ and mocked his almost daily Twitter meltdowns.
âThat gentleman that took the Twitter account for 11 minutes should be nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize,â said Cruz.
âI hope heâs a better golf player than he is a president, because he surely isnât a good president,â she added.
Cruz noted that being attacked by the president was âa badge of courageâ because it meant she was âdifferent to himâ and actually cared about people.
After many, long years in the medical field, I can say, without doubt, what is a professional, medically, well-written doctor’s report about a patient under my care.
I don’t need the pundits to dissect this for me.
This is a laughing matter.
Sad to say, it’s not a comedy show but the national election of this country.
Once again, ‘the donald” has taken something almost “sacred” and made it into a laughable matter; down to the level of stand-up comedy … not that ‘stand-up comedy’ isn’t awesome when well done.
Donald Trumpâs Doctor Wrote Letter on His âExtraordinaryâ Health in Only 5 Minutes
Dr. Harold Bornstein said in a new interview that he wrote the letter quickly as a limo was waiting
âHis health is excellent, especially his mental health,â Dr. Harold Bornstein said in an interview with NBC Nightly News on Friday. He said he typed the letter at the last minute, while a limo dispatched by Trump waited for it.
âIf elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,â Bornstein wrote in the letter, calling the Republican nomineeâs strength and stamina âextraordinary.â
He affirmed that statement in the interview with NBC.
âI like that sentence to be quite honest with you and all the rest of them are either sick or dead,â said Bornstein, who has been Trumpâs doctor for 35 years.
He said his enthusiastic wording was inspired by the over-the-top language Trump favors
With doubts swirling around the candidate’s astonishingly excellent medical evaluation, Donald Trump’s physician comes clean to NBC News.

~Ryan Lochte Epitomizes White Privilege and U.S. Foreign Policy~
The harrowing tale of American Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and his fellow athletes being held up at gunpoint and robbed in RĂo de Janeiro by men disguised as police officers was all the rage in the media last week.
Not surprisingly, there was no shortage of excuses made for the cherished American Olympic athletes.
âThese kids tried to have fun,â said Rio 2016 Olympic spokesperson Mario Andrade. âLochte is one of the best swimmers of all time. They competed under gigantic pressure. Letâs give these kids a break. They had fun, they made a mistake, life goes on.â
Following the European colonial playbook, Lochte played on the perceptions his countrymen have of Brazil and Latin American countries in general as having nothing more to offer than crime and poverty.
The same way the white Christian settlers demonized the Indigenous Americans as âsavagesâ and Donald Trump demonizes Mexicans as ârapistsâ, Ryan Lochte essentially demonized the inhabitants of RĂo de Janeiro as nothing more than a bunch of thieves.
In this way he is the perfect representative of his countryâs foreign policy, showing no respect for international standards of decency, behaving as if we are the âexceptionalâ nation, caring nothing about other cultures, and fabricating evidence to make the U.S. appear an innocent victim while those we invade and oppress are tarred with a brush of criminality and terrorism.
Jon Stewart Returns to Take Down Trump and the GOP
âI See Your Bullshitâ
Stewart showed up once again Thursday night, July 21. to deliver an old-school Daily Show-style take-down of the Fox News empire that helped make Donald Trump the Republican presidential nominee.
Stephen Colbert ‘Late Show’ Gives ‘Hungry For Power Games’ Send Off to ‘Dyin’ Ted Cruz
The former presidential candidate and current junior Texas senator was recently assured of as much when he became “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert’s latest sendoff target during his “Hungry for Power Games” skit.
~Cruz Down and Out~
“Last night’s big loser was Texas senator and half-kissed frog prince Ted Cruz, who joined the ranks of the fallen,” said Colbert, who also used part of that same episode to ridicule the fall of Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
In his speech, Colbert commended Cruz for going “down swinging,” especially the scene at the end of his concession speech where he elbowed his wife in the head.
Even as he marveled as Cruz’s determination and tenacity in winning 11 states, the perceptive talk show host chided him over his inability to “win lasting alliances.”
“Lyin’ Ted is lyin’ in the ground,” he said as a picture of Trump was raised.
“He ran a tough race,” he added. “But he was really bad at it.
Two more Republican tributes have finally fallen, leaving Trump the GOP victor.

Carly Fiorina Just Burst Into Song and It Was the Weirdest Thing
By James West
Wed Apr. 27, 2016
There we were, as a nation, watching Sen. Ted Cruz attempt to gin up some momentum by announcing Carly Fiorina as his vice presidential running mate, Wednesday afternoon. I was a bit bored.
Then this happened….

Stephen Colbert mocked Ted Cruz for selecting Carly Fiorina as his running mate after suffering another round of devastating primary losses.
âThat is bold,â Colbert said. âAfter Tuesdayâs huge wins by Clinton and Trump, Bernie Sanders saw the writing on the wall and laid off hundreds of staffers. Meanwhile, Ted Cruz saw the writing and covered it up with a âhang in there, babyâ poster.â
The âLate Showâ host said Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, was âclearly honored to accept this important job that will never exist.â
He showed video footage of Fiorina professing her love for Cruzâs family, and she broke into several awkward verses of a lullaby about her running mateâs two daughters.
âI know two girls who I just adore,â Fiorina sang from the lectern. âI am so happy I can see them more. Because we travel on the bus on the day, we get to play, we get to play.â
Colbert cringed as he listened and bit his fist in horror.
âItâs like Disney gave the wicked stepmother her own song,â he said.
Colbertâs Hilarious Response to Anchorâs Strange Bernie Sanders Mistake
MSNBCâs Chris Hayes made a slight gaffe during his coverage of the New Hampshire primary, wherein he accidentally referred to Bernie Sanders as âBernie Sandwiches.â
Of course, Stephen Colbert and his team of writers had to work that into a hilarious response. In the clip below, he does just that.
(The entire clip is almost nine minutes long. To watch just the part about âBernie Sandwiches,â start at 6:20.)
I really don’t know why I keep coming back to this topic.
I keep telling myself that I won’t give any more time to this clown on this spot. Yet, every time he does something that tops everything else that he’s done previously.
However, this time I’m sharing an incredible parody of real life presented by Stephen Colbert.
Only the “Republican front runner” can outdo himself.
He continues to provide unique material for “late nighters”.
I so hope that the average American sees him for what he is.
Stephen Colbert Moderates a Debate Between Donald Trump and the Man Who Disagrees With Him on Everything, Donald Trump
By Nate Jones
To make up for Donald Trump’s absence from the seventh Republican debate Thursday night, January 28, Stephen Colbert produced his own different debate â one that was 100 percent Trump.
And let us tell you, things got pretty heated between all the candidates. It’s clear there are some pretty deep-seated divides in this country: From Ted Cruz’s likability to Hillary Clinton’s competence to the intelligence of the people of Iowa, these guys just couldn’t seem to agree on anything.
