Kavanaugh Is Sworn In After Close Confirmation Vote in Senate
Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court on Saturday, October 6, by one of the slimmest margins in American history, locking in a solid conservative majority on the court and capping a rancorous battle that began as a debate over judicial ideology and concluded with a national reckoning over sexual misconduct.

Throughout Drumpf’s presidency, Lady Justice has often been depicted as a victim of abuse and assault.
Perhaps no illustration of her during this administration, though, has resonated as strongly as the new cartoon by Bruce MacKinnon, as published this weekend in the Halifax Chronicle-Herald.
In advance of his upcoming performance at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (James K. Polk Theater), Randy Rainbow has released another song parody video, this one called simply, “Kavanaugh.”
The song refers to the tumultuous confirmation process under which the Supreme Court nominee is undergoing, amid accusations of sexual misconduct.
This has been on my mind since one week ago, when Dr. Ford identified herself as the victim of alleged sexual assault by the nominee to the vacant seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.
I can barely being to imagine how she’s feeling in view of the event that happened 36 years ago, her identifying herself and the subsequent situation she has endured since her identity became known.
I don’t want to write about the actions of the old curmudgeons, white men who sit on the Judiciary Committee, two of whom where in this same place in history during the Anita Hill hearings. I only want to mention that we, the people, are not blind to the reasons for your actions.
Your legacy, if any, will forever be tainted and if that man sits on SCOTUS, his tenure will be forever tainted. The ‘highest court in the land’ will have two members who has been accused of sexual misconduct.
“Dear Professor Ford” Video Shows Activists and Celebrities Backing Dr. Christine Blasey Ford
In a video circulating Twitter shared with the hashtag #WeBelieveYou, dozens of women showed support for Palo Alto professor Christine Blasey Ford.
The video, titled #DearProfessorFord, shows celebrities, attorneys, and activists lauding Ford for speaking up about her allegation against SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh, who has categorically denied the allegation, has been called on by the Senate Judiciary Committee to appear at a hearing on Monday, as has Ford.
“Dear Professor Ford,” the women in the video say, “we know how difficult it is to stand up to powerful people.
We want to thank you for publicly sharing your story of sexual violence.
As members of the Senate determine whether Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should serve as a Supreme Court Justice, this context is critical.”
The different figures in the video then refer to Ford’s sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh, saying that “the behavior you described was wrong and runs directly counter to upholding the law and promoting justice.”

The Supreme Court gave gays and lesbians the right to wed.
Popular culture and public opinion continued to increasingly accept transgender identities and same-sex relationships. Corporate advocacy beat back state religious-freedom laws that would have provided a defense for discrimination. And there are more than 450 openly gay elected officials currently serving across the country.
But backers don’t expect the good news to continue, at least in the short term.
“It was no secret during the campaign that Drumpf was a narcissist and a demagogue who used fear and dishonesty to appeal to the worst in American voters. The Times called him unprepared and unsuited for the job he was seeking, and said his election would be a “catastrophe.”
It’s been said plenty of times that a new election may be needed.
This doesn’t stem from being sore losers or ‘snowflakes’.
It stems from the fact that the ‘so-called president’ demonstrated total lack of qualities mandatory in any kind of leader during the presidential campaign.
In spite of some advocating to give him a chance, he has continued to show his inexperience and total lack of empathy iwth the people he was elected to serve.
There’s a ‘de-facto’ line of succession in our government if the elected president and vice president aren’t able to continue in their posts.
Believe you me, none of them are worthy to hold the highest office in the land.
Hence, be careful what we wish for!
The time to vote again should be in November 2018.
The 2018 United States elections will mostly be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. These midterm elections will take place in the middle of Republican President Drumpf’s term.
All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested. 39 state and territorial governorships and numerous other state and local elections will also be contested.

Neil McGill Gorsuch (born August 29, 1967) is an American federal appellate judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
On February 1, 2017, Drumpf nominated Gorsuch to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia eleven months earlier.
Gorsuch is a proponent of textualism in statutory interpretation and originalism in interpreting the U.S. Constitution.

Earlier on Tuesday, March 21, Senator Richard Durbin asked Gorsuch about his views on LGBT people, and President Trump’s nominee seemed annoyed about having to respond to the question.
“What about them?” he asked. “They’re people.”
When Durbin asked the nominee to give an example of a decision or statement he made that was favorable to LGBT people, Gorsuch declared that he feels all people are entitled to equal treatment under the law.
“Senator, I’ve tried to treat each case and each person as a person, not a ‘this kind of person,’ not a ‘that kind of person’ – a person,” Gorsuch replied.
“Equal justice under law is a radical promise in the history of mankind.”
Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch was grilled about LGBT rights during his confirmation hearings this week, and while the U.S. Circuit judge referred to same-sex marriage as “settled law,” he refused to share his own opinion on the matter.
The transgender community, (the “T” in LGBT), hasn’t had an easy existence
There was plenty of hope during the recent years when rights for the LGBT community were recognized as basic human rights, including transgender rights.
However, the Drumpf administration has taken it upon themselves to start the dismantling of these human rights.

Title IX guaranteed students the right to a safe and supportive learning environment regardless of gender and protects them from discrimination.
There is no reasonable basis for them to do this except spite and hate of a community that deserves protection and recognition.”

Who is Gavin Grimm — and why does Hollywood’s most high-profile transgender actress want you to learn about him?
Grimm is a 17-year-old high school senior in Virginia whose fight against the local school board will be argued at the Supreme Court on March 28. The transgender boy’s long road to the highest court in the country started at age 15, when he was forced to endure a series of school board meetings at which adults debated whether or not he should be allowed to use the boys bathroom at school.
ACLU attorney Josh Block told NBC News that Grimm’s case has taken on a new significance with President Trump now overseeing federal agencies like the Department of Education.
For the last 20 years the overwhelming majority of lower courts have been holding that out civil rights laws against sex discrimination protect transgender people,” said Block. “Gavin’s case is the first time the Supreme Court will consider the question and reaffirm that transgender people are protected. With a presidential new administration, these protections are more critical than ever.”
But the case, “Gloucester County School Board v. G.G.,” stands to impact every transgender teen and child in the nation: the Supreme Court will use it to decide whether Title IX protections on the basis of sex can be interpreted to include gender identity, and whether Obama-era guidance from the Department of Education can be considered the law of the land.
“I realize now this is much bigger than myself. And my greater goal now is to try to make things better for those who come after me.” Gavin Grimm is taking his fight for transgender rights to the Supreme Court this spring.
As the court prepares to hear its first cases of the 2016-2017 term next week, Senate Republicans’ unprecedented blockade of Chief Judge Merrick Garland’s nomination has resulted in a state of dysfunction at our nation’s highest court.
This upcoming term demonstrates both the incredible importance of the Court and how it has been dangerously hobbled by the lack of a ninth justice.
Democratic senator accused the GOP of “theft” for blocking President Barack Obama’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court so it can be filled by the Drumpf administration.
“We really have to pay attention to the Supreme Court seat.
The seat that is sitting empty is being stolen,” Sen. Jeff Merkley told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Thursday night, January 27.
“It’s being stolen from the Obama administration and the construct of our Constitution. And it’s being delivered to an administration that has no right to fill it.”
President Barack Obama stood in the White House Rose Garden back in March to announce his nominee, Merrick Garland, for the Supreme Court seat emptied by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
But Republicans who control the Senate have refused to grant Garland a hearing, saying it should be up to Obama’s successor to pick a replacement for Scalia, who died in February 2016.
