Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King’s campaign team mocked the “look” of Parkland shooting survivor Emma González in a meme published to King’s Official Facebook Page Sunday, March 25, drawing criticism from shooting survivors.

It’s part of a wave of recent attempts to discredit Gonzalez and other survivors as they call for legislation to address gun violence. 

The item includes an image of González with tears streaming down her face at Saturday’s March for Our Lives in Washington, D.C., as she recalled the 17 lives lost at her school, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida.

The accompanying text criticizes González’ Cuban heritage, seeming to reference the Cuban flag patch seen on her sleeve. 

“This is how you look when you claim Cuban heritage yet don’t speak Spanish and ignore the fact that your ancestors fled the island when the dictatorship turned Cuba into a prison camp, after removing all weapons from its citizens; hence their right to self defense,” the post says.

The Dunblane school massacre took place at Dunblane Primary School near Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, on 13 March 1996, when Thomas Hamilton shot dead 16 children and one teacher before killing himself.

It remains the deadliest mass shooting in British history.

Twenty-two years after the deadliest mass shooting in British history, survivors of the Dunblane Primary School massacre are sharing words of compassion – and caution – to students in Parkland, Florida.

The British survivors sent their letter on the 22nd anniversary of the school shooting in Dunblane, Scotland, where 16 first-grade students and one teacher were killed. They expressed sympathy for the students in Parkland, Florida, and urged them to keep up their fight for stricter gun control.

“We have watched and listened with tremendous admiration as you have spoken out for what you believe should happen now,” they wrote.

“We want you to know that change can happen.”

The Dunblane and Parkland shootings bear striking similarities: Both were carried out by one man with a gun, and both resulted in 17 deaths. Both sparked outrage in their respective countries, as well as calls for gun safety reform.

In Scotland, at least, those calls were effective:

Just over a year after the shooting, the UK banned all private handguns completely. There has not been a single school shooting since.

“Continue to remind everyone of exactly what happened at your school and of the devastation caused by just one person with one legally-owned gun,” the letter reads. “Never let anyone forget.”

The Parkland students’ activism has already sparked some reforms, including the passage of a modest gun control bill in the Florida state legislature. The students have also met with Drumpf for a listening session in the White House, and organized two nationwide protests in favor of gun control.

Vice President Joe Biden and Adam Devine Crashed a College Party for an Important Mission

Vice President Joe Biden has a bit of a reputation as a fun-loving party animal.

So when Adam Devine needed a crime-fighting partner for an undercover operation at a college party, he knew just who to call.

A new video from Funny or Die features Biden and Devine crashing frat parties to help get the word out about a serious issue that affects college kids everywhere—sexual assault on campus, an issue that Biden has been vocal about, particularly in the wake of Stanford sexual assault case.

Biden and Devine drop the act to share their important message, though, reminding viewers how they can help prevent sexual assault.

A strong earthquake struck a mountainous stretch of central Italy early Wednesday, August 24, killing at least 241 people, trapping scores under debris and setting off tremors that awakened residents in Rome, nearly 100 miles to the southwest.

The earthquake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 6.2, struck at 3:36 a.m., about 6.5 miles southeast of the town of Norcia in the Umbria region, followed by about 200 aftershocks over the next several hours, including a5.5-magnitude tremor at 4:33 a.m.

The authorities said the quake was comparable in intensity to one in 2009 in the Abruzzo region of central Italy that killed more than 300 people.

I remember as a young teenager, I started having the odd job here and there. Of all the monies I earned, a portion would go to my Social Security account. Up until my last day of work in February 2013, I was contributing a portion of my salary as insurance for my “golden years”. The money that is in my account is money that I saved.

There is absolutely no reason at all for ANYONE to say that this is an “entitlement” and that it has to be amended or “cut”.  Now that I am in my “golden age”, it’s time to draw from my personal savings account.
