I’ve been working with an amazing company called Neste for the past year as a futurologist on a project called #PreOrderTheFuture.
I teamed up with them because it really aligned with what I’m passionate about; which is helping improve the future through technology, sustainability, and education. This project allowed people to submit their ideas that can help improve the future and NESTE would fund it.
This was an ambitious project but nevertheless, I believe a successful one.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. Also known as the Millennium Wheel, it has also been called by its owners the British Airways London Eye, the Merlin Entertainments London Eye, and the EDF Energy London Eye.
As of mid-January 2015, it has been known as the Coca-Cola London Eye, following an agreement signed in September 2014.
Although cell phone addiction is not yet listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5), research has compared it to gambling addiction, which has clearer diagnostic criteria and is included in the DSM-5.
At least 4 of the following signs and symptoms are thought to comprise criteria for cell phone addiction, and the problematic cell phone overuse must cause significant harm in the individual’s life:
A need to use the cell phone more and more often in order to achieve the same desired effect.
Persistent failed attempts to use cell phone less often.
Preoccupation with smartphone use.
Turns to cell phone when experiencing unwanted feelings such as anxiety or depression.
Excessive use characterized by loss of sense of time.
Has put a relationship or job at risk due to excessive cell phone use.
Tolerance.
Need for newest cell phone, more applications, or increased use.
Withdrawal, when cell phone or network is unreachable.
At the beginning of the meal, everyone puts their phone face down at the center of the table. As time goes on, you’ll hear various calls, texts, and emails, but you can’t pick up your phone. If you’re the first one to give in to temptation, you’re buying dinner for everyone else. If no one picks up, then everyone pays for themselves.
You can explain the game in a few different ways. Most obviously, it could be a protest against the incessant, unthinking use of cell phones during social gatherings. Or maybe it’s a game that acknowledges the new reality and tests your willpower accordingly.
Personally, I like to think of it as a free market exercise.
After all, people love to say, “Sorry, but I have to take this.” Do you have to answer it? Really? Is it that important to you? Great, then you can pay.
Google honors Hedy Lamarr, inventor of technology behind Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Renaissance woman Hedy Lamarr could not be accused of living a dull life. Even before fleeing her loveless marriage to a Nazi arms dealer to become a Hollywood star, Lamarr had captured international attention as the first female actor to simulate an orgasm in a non-pornographic film.
But none of this, presumably, is why Google has chosen to honor the Austrian-American with a Doodle on what would be her 101st birthday.
“Any girl can be glamorous, all you have to do is stand still and look stupid.”
Hedy Lamarr
She is remembered for her beauty on the silver screen, but the Hollywood actor spent her nights inventing a weapons communication system that was a precursor to wireless technologies including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in 1914 in Vienna, Lamarr began acting as a teenager. At the age of 18, she starred in the scandalous 1930’s Czech film Ecstasy, in which she goes skinny dipping then, still completely nude, chases a runaway horse. Later on, she simulates an orgasm – the first female actor to do this in a theatrically-released film.
Married at 19 to a Nazi arms merchant – one of the richest men in Austria – Lamarr was virtually a prisoner in her own home, according to Trina Robbins, author of Hedy Lamarr and a Secret Communication System. It was during this time that Lamarr was first exposed to weapons technology – at numerous dinner parties where she listened to her husband and his guests discuss the technical aspects of weapons design.
She eventually fled the marriage and went to Hollywood, landing a seven-year, $3000-a-week contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. An immediate sensation, the hugely popular actor starred in films including Tortilla Flat, Lady of the Tropics, Boom Town, and Samson and Delilah.
When your battery charge gets low, the battery icon on your electronic device indicates a low-battery power level. Make sure that you have sufficient time to install a fully charged battery, find an AC power outlet, or save your work and turn off the mobile unit. When your battery is almost out of power, the battery icon changes to indicate a critical-battery level.
Low WiFi Signal
Wi-Fi lets you build a network without the hassle of running cable, but these networks are highly dependent on signal strength. A weak Wi-Fi signal can reduce your available bandwidth and even cause connection problems. Tracking down and correcting issues that might be attenuating your wireless signal improve your network’s speed and reliability.
Loading
Round and round and round it goes. When will it load, nobody knows!
Top sites on the Internet, including Netflix and Reddit, will be displaying a constant “loading” symbol — the so-called “loading pinwheel” or, alternately, the Spinning Wheel of Death.
“IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”’
Google Doodle Celebrates Sally Ride’s 64th Birthday
Today, May 26, 2015, American astronaut Sally Ride would have have been 64 years old.
She died in 2012, but her work lives on as an inspiration to young women who want to touch the stars.
Ride was indefatigable in promoting education, in promoting the need to explore space, and working to get girls more involved with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As the first American woman in space her place in history was secure, but she knew what this implied for her as a role model, and maximized that leverage.
Google has helped promote her message today in a series of lovely Doodles, animated images that come up when you open the home page of the search engine.
Dr. Ride was immortalized when NASA named the GRAIL spacecraft impact site after her. But her legacy was secured by her own doing, by her actions. And we thank her for them.
The astronaut and physicist worked to motivate young people, especially girls, to become interested in science and math.
On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride made history when she became the first American woman in space. On Tuesday, Google honored what would have been her 64th birthday with an animated Google Doodle.
Ride was born in Los Angeles on May 26, 1951. While finishing her Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University in 1977, she applied to join NASA and was among one of six women selected to be astronaut candidates.
At the age of 32, Ride became the first American woman in space while on board the Challenger space shuttle. She made another mission into orbit the following year, also on board Challenger.
Ride’s partner Tam O’Shaughnessy wrote in a blog post that while in space Ride “realized how important it is for all of us to take care of our fragile home in space, and became an environmentalist.”
After leaving NASA, Ride became the director of the California Space Institute and professor of physics at the University of California at San Diego. She saw how girls were being put off from pursuing careers in science and math and worked to inspire young people, especially girls and minority students, to keep up their interests in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects.
Google celebrates Sally Ride’s 64th Birthday with five animated Google Doodle on May 26, 2015. Sally Ride was an American physicist and astronaut and became the first American woman in space in 1978 at the age of 32.

Singer Sarah Brightman preparing for space station visit
British singer Sarah Brightman is expected to blast off in October for a 10-day stay on the International Space Station, NASA reported. The famed soprano, who starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” will pay about $52 million for a round-trip ride aboard a Russian Soyuz capsule, said U.S.-based Space Adventures, a privately owned firm that is arranging the trip.
Brightman, 54, will become the eighth tourist and first professional singer to visit the orbital outpost, a $100 billion research laboratory that flies about 260 miles (418 km) above Earth. One tourist, Microsoft co-founder Charles Simonyi, made two trips.
Since NASA retired its space shuttles in 2011, Russian Soyuz capsules have been fully booked flying crew to and from the station, a project of 15 nations. The last tourist to fly was Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte, who spent 11 days aboard the station in 2009, at a cost of about $35 million.
The design captures the classic historic spirit of space travel and exploration, while using a female figure as the central motif – highlighting the potential of women to succeed in the worlds of science and technology, traditionally the preserve of men.
The figure is drawn with a respectful nod towards the stylish, heroic aesthetic of 1960’s soviet statuary, in particular the monuments to pioneer cosmonauts such as the first man in space Yuri Gagarin. Similarly, the four pointed star at the top of the design refers to the emblem for Russia’s Star City and the ascending rocket is adapted from the beautiful “Conquerors Of Space” monument which is situated outside the All-Russia Exhibition Centre in VDNKh.
At the base of this, the flags of three nations lead the way into the ascent; Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Behind the female figure is the earth – the most recognizable landmass we see is the United Kingdom, the birthplace of Sarah Brightman. Positioned like a crown above the female figure is the image of the International Space Station itself.
Never has the term “Mission statement” been more appropriate.
For Sarah, this mission – TMA 18M – embodies her own goals
CHASING DREAMS, SHAPING FUTURES
Sarah’s endless pursuit of realizing her own ambitions is matched by her personal commitment to the advancement of education for young people around the world. She works closely with several organizations that strive to achieve greater opportunities in the fields of Science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts, including UNESCO (as an Artist for Peace ambassador), Virgin Unite, (the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group – as a scholarship benefactor), and Challenger Center (STEM education non-profit organization – as an advisory board member).
Sarah is also a supporter of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, which significantly supports the arts, music in schools, The Architectural Heritage Fund and awards 30 performing arts scholarships annually.
Finally, at the centre of the design, behind the female figure is The Moon, which refers back to the Apollo 11 landing. This event had captivated Sarah as she watched it on TV as a child and was the driving inspiration behind her earliest desire to travel into space. The moon also became the predominant motif on the cover of her latest album project, Dreamchaser.
