Neil McGill Gorsuch (born August 29, 1967) is an American federal appellate judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

On February 1, 2017, Drumpf nominated Gorsuch to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia eleven months earlier.

Gorsuch is a proponent of textualism in statutory interpretation and originalism in interpreting the U.S. Constitution.

Gorsuch Says Marriage Equality “Absolutely Settled Law,” But Gets Indignant About LGBT Rights

Earlier on Tuesday, March 21, Senator Richard Durbin asked Gorsuch about his views on LGBT people, and President Trump’s nominee seemed annoyed about having to respond to the question.

“What about them?” he asked. “They’re people.”

When Durbin asked the nominee to give an example of a decision or statement he made that was favorable to LGBT people, Gorsuch declared that he feels all people are entitled to equal treatment under the law.

“Senator, I’ve tried to treat each case and each person as a person, not a ‘this kind of person,’ not a ‘that kind of person’ – a person,” Gorsuch replied.

“Equal justice under law is a radical promise in the history of mankind.”

Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch was grilled about LGBT rights during his confirmation hearings this week, and while the U.S. Circuit judge referred to same-sex marriage as “settled law,” he refused to share his own opinion on the matter.

 We play an indispensable role in the daily functions of life in all of society, through paid & unpaid, seen & unseen labor.  

We must have the power to control our bodies and be free from gender norms, expectations and stereotypes.

We must free ourselves and our society from the constant awarding of power, agency and resources disproportionately to masculinity, to the exclusion of others.

We must end the hiring discrimination that women, particularly mothers, women of color, women with disabilities, Indigenous women, lesbian, queer and trans women still face each day in our nation.  

We believe that creating workforce opportunities that reduce discrimination against women and mothers allow economies to thrive. Nations and industries that support and invest in care-giving and basic workplace protections – including benefits like paid family leave, access to affordable childcare, sick days, healthcare, fair pay, vacation time, and healthy work environments – have shown growth and increased capacity.

In feminist theory, rape culture is a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. There is disagreement over what defines rape culture and as to whether any societies currently meet the criteria for a rape culture.

The Senate just voted down 4 gun control proposals
Democrats and Republicans each offered their own versions of gun-control bills, and most were unwilling to cross the aisle.

Senate Democrats made good on a commitment they had little leverage until now to follow through on: a promise to take votes on gun control bills.

They still didn’t have the leverage, however, to pass them.

 

After the worst mass shooting in modern American history, a 15-hour Senate Democratic filibuster led by Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) shamed Republicans into scheduling votes for Monday, June 20, 2016.

But Monday night, the Senate failed to reach the 60-vote threshold for cloture on any of four separate measures: Republican and Democratic versions of a bill addressing background checks failed to reach the 60-vote threshhold for cloture; so did the Republican and Democratic versions of a bill restricting “suspected terrorists” from being able to buy guns.
