SYRIA’S WAR: CONVOLUTED AND COMPLICATED

SYRIA’S WAR IS A MESS

Back in April 8, 2017, I posted information about the war in Syria.

Ezra Klein, from Vox, narrated a video which explained the many factions, factors, countries and issues involved in the Syrian civil war which started in 2011 after the “Arab Spring“.

We know about the war raging within its borders.

We have seen the many refugees leaving and running into uncertain conditions about their travels and their eventual destination.

On April 7, 2017, the situation attracted a huge spotlight due to the launching of Tomahawk missiles by the United States, on a base in western Syria. The United States said was used to launch a chemical attack on April 4, 2017,which left nearly 100 people dead and hundreds more injured.

On 7 April 2018, a suspected chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma reportedly killed at least 70 people. On-site medics stated that exposure to chlorine gas and sarin nerve agent killed the victims. Several reports attributed the attack to the Syrian Army, which the Syrian Government and its allies disputed, either denying involvement or that a chemical attack had taken place at all.

Almost exactly to one year, the United States and European allies launched airstrikes on Friday night, April 13, 2018,  against Syrian research, storage and military targets as Drumpf sought to punish President Bashar al-Assad for a suspected chemical attack near Damascus last weekend that killed more than 40 people.

The video explains the many details, factions, alliances and ‘players’.

And to add to the mortal mix, Drumpf is now the ‘so-called Commander- in-Chief”.

Some of you may know, others not.

I am a fan of tattoos, having a few of them myself.

I’m also Puerto Rican, born and raised, living in the mainland.

Since September 20, 2017, when Hurricane María battered and almost flattened my country, my personal feelings have come to the surface.

My heart and soul ache for Puerto Rico.

It’s been a week today since I visited my tattoo artist for add ons, updates, coloring and completion.

Colors, shading, The ‘cemí’, the hibiscus flowers, the ‘Taíno coquí’ and the ‘Taíno sun‘ were completed.

The process is almost totally done.

Only minor details for the last sitting.

My tattoo artist, Barefoot Stacy, is amazing!

Here it is!

This is a proud Boricua woman, holding her head up high, ready to hold her stand and give the good fight.

This happens in Puerto Rico every minute of every day.

The fortitude of the Puerto Rican woman has been tested during the trying times since Hurricane María battered the Island on September 20, 2018, a bit beyond six months ago today.

I wanted to share another ‘almost complete’ result with you today.

 More will follow as it’s totally done.

I was watching Lawrence O’Donnell’s show last night, January 12.

I share this because it gives me a bit of hope.

His words and information gave me some solace.

I thought the country had chosen this inept, idiotic man-child.

Now it seems it was Russia all along, among other things.

Sad to see the country heading this way.

The numbers show that the majority of Americans aren’t happy with Mr. Donald.

These numbers don’t lie!

A Quinnipiac Poll shows majorities of Americans don’t think he will govern well.

‘He will take the oath of office in one week a weaker politician than he was on election night’!

Get ready!

It will be a bumpy ride!!

President-elect Donald J. Trump, expressing lingering skepticism about intelligence assessments of Russian interference in the election, said on Saturday evening, December 31,  that he knew “things that other people don’t know” about the hacking, and  the information would be revealed “on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

“I know a lot about hacking. And hacking is a very hard thing to prove. So it could be somebody else. And I also know things that other people don’t know, and so they cannot be sure of the situation.”

When asked what he knew that others did not, Mr. Trump demurred, saying only, “You’ll find out on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Mr. Trump, who does not use email, also advised people to avoid computers when dealing with delicate material.

“It’s very important, if you have something really important, write it out and have it delivered by courier, the old-fashioned way, because I’ll tell you what, no computer is safe,” Mr. Trump said.

“I don’t care what they say, no computer is safe,” he added. “I have a boy who’s 10 years old; he can do anything with a computer. You want something to really go without detection, write it out and have it sent by courier.”

Will they or won’t they? Now they have to!

I can not believe that this is going to happen. I had resigned myself to the fact that it wouldn’t be a reality in my lifetime. Still with this ever-changing information flowing, it’s hard to believe. The feeling that there is still a possibility that this won’t happen is still there. 

Many do not agree with marriage equality … and have place innumerable obstacles trying to stop it. 

Let’s see where this leads.

I do know that I’m getting ready. I’m heading to the County Clerks Office the morning of January 6, 2015. 

What happens after that …. you will soon know!! 

All of Florida’s 67 counties can comply with a federal judge’s ruling and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples starting next week.

U.S. Judge Robert Hinkle issued a ruling Thursday that clarifies (January 1, 2015) his ruling on the issue

Hinkle originally overturned Florida’s same-sex marriage ban, but there were questions as to whether it affected only Washington County, or all counties.

A stay on the ruling was set to end at midnight Jan. 5, and Hinkle said he would not extend the stay. That means on Jan. 6 counties can begin issuing marriage licences to same-sex couples.

U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle ruled New Years Day that all Florida clerks are bound by the U.S. Constitution not to enforce Florida’s gay marriage ban and that any couple seeking a license on Tuesday, January 6, should receive one.

“The preliminary injunction now in effect thus does not require the Clerk to issue licenses to other applicants,” Hinkle wrote in an order released Thursday afternoon. “But as set out in the order that announced issuance of the preliminary injunction, the Constitution requires the Clerk to issue such licenses.”

“History records no shortage of instances when state officials defied federal court orders on issues of federal constitutional law. Happily, there are many more
instances when responsible officials followed the law, like it or not. Reasonable people can debate whether the ruling in this case was correct and who it binds.

“There should be no debate, however, on the question whether a clerk of court may follow the ruling, even for marriage-license applicants who are not parties to this
case.  And a clerk who chooses not to follow the ruling should take note: the governing statutes and rules of procedure allow individuals to intervene as
plaintiffs in pending actions, allow certification of plaintiff and defendant classes, allow issuance of successive preliminary injunctions, and allow successful
plaintiffs to recover costs and attorney’s fees.”

Howard Simon, executive director of the ACLU of Florida said : “This is a New Years Day present from federal Judge Robert Hinkle — he has given Florida the road map to an orderly transition to being a state that treats all its people equally.”

Incredible way to start a new year!

I’m not holding my breath. It’s been a roller coaster … yes, no, yes, no, yes. It’s been one obstacle after another. This can make your emotions quite raw. The feeling is one of “the powers that be” playing the game of cat and mouse. 

Plans are made, preparations in place …. then they have to be undone.

It’s not fair at all. Still waiting on the final word from the Clerks of the Courts. 

We have waiting a long time to post this graphic as a community haven’t we?

Our day has arrived!! It’s okay to have tears as long as they are tears of joy! What a relief to be seen as equals in the eyes of the law and by the state we love.

Pam Bondi released a statement Friday, December 19, that read, “Tonight, the United States Supreme Court denied the State’s request for a stay in the case before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Regardless of the ruling it has always been our goal to have uniformity throughout Florida until the final resolution of the numerous challenges to the voter-approved constitutional amendment on marriage. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court has now spoken, and the stay will end on January 5.”
