This Is Us (Tuesday,September 20,tracks the lives of four people turning 36 who share the same birthday: Pittsburgh resident Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), whose wife, Rebecca (Mandy Moore), is about to give birth to triplets; L.A. sitcom star Kevin (Justin Hartley) and his sister, Kate (Chrissy Metz), who is struggling with her weight; and East Coast business executive, Randall (Sterling K. Brown), who is looking for his biological father.
I find this video to be simple and very educational.
In very poignant ways it demonstrates how straight people view LGBT people.
It brings out some of the incorrect beliefs that heterosexuals may have related to gay people.
It also brings out the fact that these beliefs may be based on bible teachings.
“A hug is an international form of physical intimacy in which two people put their arms around the neck, back, or waist of one another and hold each other closely.”
(Per Wikipedia).
Bottom line, hugging a gay person doesn’t take away anything from a straight person.
‘First Hug’ video pairs up gay and homophobic strangers
Jolie Lee, USA TODAY Network, March 20, 2014
What happens when you ask a gay person and a homophobic person to hug?
“First Hug” paired strangers with opposite views on sexuality to embrace each other on camera. The video was produced by The Gay Women Channel, which posts weekly videos on YouTube.
“We didn’t just want to do a spoof but do a version that had meaning behind it,” said Sarah Rotella, one of the creators of The Gay Women Channel, in an interview with USA TODAY Network.
The video is a parody of “First Kiss,” a video that asked 20 strangers to kiss, produced by clothing company Wren. “First Kiss” has inspired other spin-offs, including Tonight Show host’s Jimmy Fallon’s version with kittens and puppies.
“First Hug” begins with the strangers talking before they hug.
“Why did you ever think it was a sin?” a gay man asks a woman.
“Because it says so in the Bible,” she replies.
A man asks a gay man,” “How do you kiss another guy?
I don’t get that.”
“The same way you kiss another girl,” the man replies.
Despite different viewpoints, the pairs end up hugging it out.
“I’m still normal, you’re still normal,” one woman says.
