FOR YOUR LOVE OF GOD, DO SOMETHING

Prayers without action are simply empty words.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

SAY THEIR NAMES

It’s been three days since the tragedy in Orlando.

It feels like an eternity.

It feels life is passing by in slow motion.

I thank the Human Rights Campaign for preparing the graphics included below.

As information poored in, as the investigation continues, the victim list was released.

Slowly we learned their names.

Now we see the face that goes with each name.

It’s a possibility that the number may increase since there are several critical victims in local hospitals.

Take a look.

These are human beings no different than any of us.

They all bled red.

They all had lives, dreams, hope, vitality, jobs, an full life ahead of them, family and friends.

How different are they from anyone?

Their sexuality?

Take that factor away …. what do you see?

I urge you, dare you, to look at each graphic, read each tibit of personal information.

I assure you, your heart will skip a beat.

There will always be haters.

There will always be bigots.

There will always be shameless politicians.

But Faces humanize the Names …. it hits home.

We ALL are ONE!!

IMPORTANT THAT YOU HEAR THEIR NAMES

We are still reeling from this tragic event.

My heart, my soul and my mind remain numb.

We haven’t been able to make sense of this.

The pain is too deep.

Life goes on. Reality is reality.

The business of living continues.

Honoring the victims.

Let the video speak for itself.

Thank you, Anderson!

Anderson Cooper stood near the scene of the tragedy by Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, where 49 people were killed and 53 injured early Sunday morning. At the time of airing the CNN segment, 48 of the 49 victims had been identified.

As their images appeared on the screen, Cooper read aloud the names of those killed along with a short description of who they were or where they worked.

He became noticeably upset in places, taking his time to regain his voice to continue honoring the victims of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. Cooper ended the tribute by saying, “we think it’s important you hear their names.”

ANTWERP CONCERT

Adele Dedicates Antwerp Concert to Orlando Victims

Last night, June 12, 2016, at her concert in Antwerp, Adele began her show by dedicating the entire set to the victims of the Pulse Night Club shooting in Orlando.

She teared up as she explained:

“I would like to start tonight by dedicating this entire show to everybody in Orlando and at Pulse nightclub last night.

The LGBTQ community, they’re like my soulmates since I was really young, so I’m very moved by it.”

Adele then said humorously:

“I don’t know why I’m crying already because most of this tonight is pretty miserable because my songs are fucking miserable. I do have two songs that sound happy, but they’re not.”

‘I’m really moved’

Omar Mateen killed 49 innocent people and injured 53 more after he opened fire inside Pulse nightclub in Florida, before being shot dead by police, early on Sunday morning.

Visibly moved by the shocking incident, the star said: ‘I’d like to start tonight by dedicating this entire show to everybody in Orlando, and at Pulse Nightclub last night.
‘The LGBTQI’ community … they’re like my soulmates, since I was really young, so I’m really moved by it,’ she added.

Break the Box Campaign

Break the Box Campaign Video

TAASA (The Texas Association Against Sexual Violence) was founded on a simple principle: to assist sexual assault survivors and to create a Texas free from sexual violence.

TAASA advocates for individual sexual assault survivors as well as sexual assault programs collectively. That advocacy takes many forms, from supporting legislation favorable to victims and strengthening laws against sexual predators, to advocating for increased funding for sexual assault programs at both the federal and state levels.

The Break The Box campaign is all about identifying and breaking free from gender stereotypes that can lead to sexual violence. But sexual violence isn’t just about rape or physical harassment. It begins when we hurt people through the words we use and attitudes we carry. Only by combating these stereotypes can we break free of the limits created by social expectations which are the result of strict gender roles.

TAASA’s goal is to lead the statewide community to be free of sexual violence

The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault is committed to ending sexual violence in Texas through education, prevention and advocacy. In the meantime, we desire to support survivors on their paths to hope, healing and justice.

TAASA is the voice of the sexual assault movement in Texas. We are a unifying force bringing together parties involved in and affected by sexual assault as a catalyst for change.

~~Break The Box~~

~~Published on Mar 5, 2013~~

Sexual violence isn’t just about rape or physical harassment. It begins when we hurt people through the words we use and attitudes we carry. Stereotypes of what it means to be a man or woman — for instance, boys should do physical activities and girls need to be “ladylike” — can limit our worth and potential, and create an unequal balance of power that perpetuates sexual violence.

In Texas alone, nearly 13% of all Texans have been sexually assaulted—that’s nearly two million people, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 20 men. While this remains a big problem, we can Break The Box in Texas. By pledging to do our part to stand up against rigid thinking that box women and men in, we can help to create a Texas free of sexual violence.

~IN HER OWN WORDS~

IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”’

THIS ONE IS VERY SERIOUS AND SOMBER

At the end of the day …. “Let’s End Homeless Hate Laws”!!

HomeLMeme

~~June 17, 2015~~

Manteca, CA made it illegal to set up shelter anywhere outside – and even went as far as make it illegal to pick food or recyclables out of the trash!

Fort Lauderdale policed repeatedly cited 90-year-old Arnold Abbott for feeding hungry people in public. In Oahu, it is illegal to sit or lie in a number of public areas. These types of laws are common in cities throughout the United States, but do nothing to address the root causes of incarceration.

Diversion programs work better than incarceration – for everyone. In cities like Seattle, San Antonio, and Salt Lake City, we see that successful solutions are a viable option to help end serious social problems. These services alter the course of people’s lives in a positive way and save taxpayers huge amounts of money. We cannot continue to isolate and imprison people who suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, or homelessness. We must treat them with compassion and care to better serve our communities and our pocketbooks.

It’s time we got serious about pulling our money out of incarceration and putting it into systems that foster healthy communities. Hundreds of thousands of people are locked up not because of any dangerous behavior, but because of problems like mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness, which should be dealt with outside the criminal justice system. Services like drug treatment and affordable housing cost less and can have a better record of success.

This summer, news stories from around the nation provided the American people with a litany of issues about how police officers respond to community members. By highlighting programs like Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD), and Housing First, OverCriminalized explores the possibility of ending incarceration for millions of Americans who, through successful intervention programs, can put their lives back on track.

OverCriminalized focuses on the people who find themselves being trafficked through this nation’s criminal justice system with little regard for their humanity and zero prospects for actual justice.

They are victims of unwillingness to invest in solving major social problems, and the consequent handling off of that responsibility to the police, the courts, and the prisons. They are the mentally ill, the homeless, and the drug addicted. Sometimes they are all three.

BRAVE NEW FILMS: JUSTICE

~~Published on Dec 8, 2014~~

Homeless Hate Laws are spreading throughout the country.

BLineHomeLessPBLine

Quick facts on over criminalization:

Approximately 20 % of state prisoners and 21 % of local jail detainees have a “recent history” of a mental health condition.

Approximately 26% of homeless adults staying in shelters live with serious mental illness and an estimated 46% live with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

In 2012, it was estimated that 23.1 million Americans needed treatment for problems that related to drugs or alcohol.

Pew Research finds that 67% of Americans say that the government should focus more on providing treatment for those who use illegal drugs such as heroin or cocaine. Just 26% think the government’s focus should be on prosecuting users of such hard drugs.
