May 17 …. International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia …. “!!

~~May 17, 2016~~

Now, more than ever, this day is necessary.

Raising awareness!

As many know, there’s been an increasing number of anti-LGBT laws enacted in the USA.

There are still many countries where being “different” is a crime, punished by law.

Some goals have been attained but the struggle remains.

Many forces are trying to undermine those achievements and many are still trying to keep a mentality of old.

The struggle is real.

The struggle continues.

12th International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Today HRC honors the 12th International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, a day to celebrate how far we’ve come in the global struggle for equality and remember that the path to full equality is still strewn with barriers.

The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is observed on May 17 and aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide. In the 9th edition, in 2013, commemorations took place in almost 120 countries, in all world regions.

The founders of the International Day Against Homophobia, as it was originally known, established the IDAHO Committee to coordinate grass-roots actions in different countries, to promote the day and to lobby for official recognition on May 17.

That date was chosen to commemorate the decision to remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1990.

World AIDS Day …. December 1, 2014!!

~~December 1, 2014~~

This is a disease that knows no bounds. There are no classes are spared. It attacks all walks of life …. no differences here. From famous to unknown, from rich to poor, from educated to illiterate. This disease is does not discriminate. Doesn’t matter who you are. Anyone can be infected.

World AIDS Day, observed on 1 December every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.

World AIDS Day is one of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Immunization Week, World Tuberculosis Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Malaria Day and World Hepatitis Day. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day.
