I know lots of people LOVE “Duck Dynasty” and I think it is very entertaining.
I know lots of my friends are not gay on here and have a country root and so on.
Many believe the Bible.
Do I believe the bible as written, NO! (One example is the Bible talks about making foreign people slaves??)
I know I came from a Dad and some family who shunned me and almost ruined my life. It sure made me heartbroken for many years.
I understood the times (70s, 80s, and so on) and the origin.
But I know it is a different time now.
Young people, who are gay, shouldn’t have to hear about “hate” from a person making millions of dollars who is on a friggin reality show. I do forgive a person who is an idiot.
Gay people die every day due to statements and actions from men like this one.
Black people are still treated like lower class citizens, period … by some.
This man has a right to say what he said. But should a network like A&E (Arts and Entertainment) endorse a person like this today? My answer is … NO.
I think leave the rest of Duck Dynasty alone and let them have their show. I think he should have been asked to leave the show (they will bring him back after it cools anyway). Let people decide to follow them or not.
But things I do not want to hear out of non-gay people is the word tolerance and I am ok with you being gay.
A&E knew all about “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson feelings toward gays when it hired him — because the guy openly preached that gays were going to hell years before the series started.
There are videos available on youtube — a 2010 sermon at Berean Bible Church in Pennsylvania … it’s pretty much your typical bible-thumping drill. Phil calls gay people shameful, perverse, heartless, faithless, senseless God haters … destined for the burning pits of hell.
So with that backdrop … A&E hired Robertson … then allowed him to do an interview with GQ where it had to know the reporter would ask questions about his feelings toward gays … and then when he answered honestly A&E punished Robertson.
Robertson may be misguided but A&E is being dishonest for feigning shock about something it definitely knew all about.
Olympic figure skating champion Brian Boitano came out Thursday, December 19, 2013, two days after he was named to the U.S. delegation for Sochi along with openly gay athletes Billie Jean King and Caitlin Cahow.
****This is really important at this moment in time. He’s going to Russia to the Sochi Games …. Russia has been in the news and the blogosphere because of the laws that have been enacted which are very much against the LGBT community there.***
Figure skating champ, US Sochi delegate Brian Boitano says he’s gay
The 1988 gold medalist had always kept his personal life private, saying in a statement that “being gay is just one part of who I am.” But President Barack Obama’s decision to include openly gay athletes in the delegation for the opening and closing ceremonies — and not send high-ranking officials — was widely seen as a message to Russia about its treatment of gays and lesbians.
“First and foremost I am an American athlete and I am proud to live in a country that encourages diversity, openness and tolerance,” Boitano said in his statement. “As an athlete, I hope we can remain focused on the Olympic spirit which celebrates achievement in sport by peoples of all nations.”
Russia has come under fierce criticism for passing national laws banning “gay propaganda”, and some suggested the United States should boycott the Sochi Olympics in protest. Obama rejected that idea earlier this year, saying a stronger statement could be made by “gay and lesbian athletes bringing home the gold or silver or bronze.”
But his choices for the U.S. delegation left little doubt about Obama’s disapproval of the new Russian law.
In actual fact, this was not the first “anti-gay” law to be passed in Russia; Ryazan Oblast’s Duma adopted an amendment to local legislation to outlaw the “propaganda of homosexualism” in May 2006, and Arkhangelsk and Kostroma Oblasts followed suit in 2011. Yet the passing of the St Petersburg law proved to be a catalyst for other administrations to introduce similar laws, with a further six subsequently adopting similar legislation and others considering it (so far only the Moscow Regional Duma has rejected legislation).
Most significantly, these laws paved the way for consideration of a federal bill outlawing the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors”, which the Russian Duma passed on June 11 despite continuing international condemnation and the fierce opposition of local LGBTQ activists and their supporters, who frequently endured physical attacks and arrests while protesting against the law.
For the first time since 2000, the U.S. will not send a president, former president, first lady or vice president to the Olympics. This year’s group is led by former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and others in the delegation include U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, deputy Secretary of State William Burns and presidential adviser Rob Nabors.
Of the five athletes in the delegation, three — Boitano, King and Cahow — are openly gay. Cahow said Boitano’s decision to keep his sexual orientation private until now was his to make, just as it was her choice to acknowledge hers publicly.
“I completely respect that,” Cahow told The Associated Press after learning of Boitano’s statement. “I think each individual has a right to define who they are. That’s what autonomy is all about.
“I think he and I would agree that our goal is to someday live in a world where these classifications aren’t important.”
Boitano and King will attend the opening ceremony. Cahow, a two-time medalist in women’s hockey, will attend the closing ceremony with Olympic speed skating champions Bonnie Blair and Eric Heiden.
“I have been fortunate to represent the United States of America in three different Olympics, and now I am honored to be part of the presidential delegation to the Olympics in Sochi,” Boitano, who is in Europe, said in his statement. “It has been my experience from competing around the world and in Russia that Olympic athletes can come together in friendship, peace and mutual respect regardless of their individual country’s practices.”
Earlier this month, IOC President Thomas Bach said Russia would set up public protest zones in Sochi for “people who want to express their opinion or want to demonstrate for or against something.”
Meanwhile, the IOC approved a letter going out to athletes reminding them to refrain from protests or political gestures during the Sochi Games — reiterating Rule 50 of the Olympic charter, which forbids demonstrations on Olympic grounds. Cahow said that’s unlikely to succeed, however.
The 2006 bronze and ’10 silver medalist has been active with a group called Proposition 6, a reference to the section IOC mission statement that compels it “to act against any form of discrimination affecting the Olympic Movement.”
“I think politics and the Olympics are always going to be intertwined. It’s impossible not to,” Cahow told the AP. “It’s a remarkable opportunity for people to invest in and get swept away in the events. I’m hoping the Sochi Games will be no exception.”
Bach previously said he’d received assurances from Russian President Vladimir Putin that gays will not be discriminated against in Sochi. But the Russian law has raised questions about what could happen to athletes who wear pins or badges or carry flags supporting gay rights.

Will Vladmir Putin Arrest Tennis Icon Billie Jean King?
Published on Dec 18, 2013
“The United States’ delegation to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia won’t include a member of President Barack Obama’s family or an active Cabinet secretary, but it will include openly gay athletes – a clear jab at Russia’s recent anti-gay laws.
Billie Jean King, the tennis legend, will join figure skater Brian Boitano at the games’ opening ceremonies on February 7, the White House said Tuesday.
Former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, White House aide Rob Nabors and the U.S. ambassador to Russia will round out the delegation to the Sochi games.”* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.
These news are just fresh out … and he’s already being courted??
As we all very well know ….
This guy has some SERIOUS explaining to do!
The boys of Duck Dynasty recently did an interview with GQ that was published online, and a few comments by Phil Robertson are rubbing people the wrong way!
He said: “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
He responded to the controversial comments, saying: “Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe. He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans —and Americans — who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples.
Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.”
Preach, brother! As the GQ article points out, Phil may have gotten a bit too comfortable with no cameras around when he blurted out the offensive comments, but it’s still a little troubling to hear someone in the national spotlight saying something so misinformed. Maybe next time he’ll remember to watch what he says when he’s hanging out with a reporter who’s taking note of every word that comes out of your mouth!
~~Phil Robertson: Why Louisiana governor rides to Duck Dynasty defense~~
Phil Robertson was ‘indefinitely’ suspended from ‘Duck Dynasty.’
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal weighs in on this “messed up situation.” Could this be the opening the Phil Robertson to make a career change?
In Louisiana, apparently there’s no political capital lost in defending Phil Robertson, patriarch of ‘Duck Dynasty.’
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal issued a statement today after Phil Robertson was suspended by A&E from the show ‘Duck Dynasty.’ The suspension was prompted by Robertson’s comments in a GQ magazine interview where he compared homosexuality to bestiality.
At one point, Robertson paraphrased a passage from Corinthians:
“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
~~A&E issued a statement announcing Robertson’s haitus~~
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,” A&E said in a statement. “His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
Duck Dynasty is filmed in Louisiana and one of the most popular shows on cable TV.
“Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”
As reported earlier, the Robertsons have made no secret of their Christian faith on their hugely popular series, typically ending episodes by sitting around the dinner table saying grace.
Phil Robertson has said that A&E hit downplays his family’s religious faith – but the intensity of his beliefs comes through in a recently released videotaped speech in Pennsylvania condemning abortion.
In the speech, he talks about presidents he says relied on the Bible, then turns to abortion. “Listen, from the time you started inside your mother’s womb, Thomas Jefferson had it right, you have the God-given right to live, for crying out loud. You’re this long!” he said, holding out his finger. “You’re a week old inside your mother. They suck you out of there when you’re about like that.”
“Yeah, I mean, I’d consider everything,” Robertson told US Weekly. “But you know, at this point in my life, I’m really busy. Maybe we can help the country in some way, get these guys to be more efficient and all that. I don’t know. I don’t think now is the right time but who knows about one day?”
Maybe A&E has now given Robertson more time to consider a political career.
We all should already have knowledge of the following:
1. You have the constitutional right to say whatever you want.
2. You should be smart enough to know that just because you can say hateful things, doesn’t mean it won’t get you into trouble or you won’t be held accountable.
“It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.”
The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex couples across the state must have the freedom to marry! Share this photo to celebrate, and learn more from New Mexico Unites for Marriage! http://bit.ly/1cD2WFY
The New Mexico Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage constitutional in a Thursday, December 19, 2013 ruling.
Prohibiting same-gender marriages is not substantially related to the governmental interests advanced by the parties opposing same-gender marriage or to the purposes we have identified. Therefore, barring individuals from marrying and depriving them of the rights, protections, and responsibilities of civil marriage solely because of their sexual orientation violates the Equal Protection Clause under Article II, Section 18 of the New Mexico Constitution. We hold that the State of New Mexico is constitutionally required to allow same-gender couples to marry and must extend to them the rights, protections, and responsibilities that derive from civil marriage under New Mexico law.
The New Mexico Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in the state Thursday, declaring in a ruling that it is unconstitutional to deny a marriage license to gay and lesbian couples.
Eight of the state’s 33 counties started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in August, when a county clerk in southern New Mexico independently decided to allow the unions. County officials asked the high court to clarify the law and establish a uniform state policy on gay marriage.
State statutes don’t explicitly prohibit or authorize gay marriage. However, the marriage laws — unchanged since 1961 — contain a marriage license application with sections for male and female applications. There also are references to “husband” and “wife.”
The current and previous state attorneys general have said the law effectively prohibits gay marriage, although current Attorney General Gary King also has said he believes such a prohibition is unconstitutional.
A state district court judge in Albuquerque ruled earlier this year that it is a violation of New Mexico’s constitution to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The judge based his decision on a 1972 constitutional amendment adopted by voters that prohibits discrimination “on account of the sex of any person.”
Two county clerks that were defendants in that case decided not to directly appeal the judge’s ruling. However, the county association and the state’s 31 other county clerks — including several already issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples — joined the lawsuit to provide a way to quickly move the gay marriage question to the Supreme Court.
The five justices previously turned down efforts by gay rights advocates to get a ruling on the marriage issue. The advocates had attempted to get a decision by filing lawsuits directly with the Supreme Court rather than through an appeal of a lower court decision.
David Whitehouse describes the political experiences and influences that shaped Nelson Mandela from the opening years of his engagement in the struggle.
Nelson Mandela burning an identification pass in 1960
NELSON MANDELA’S life was long and full. His resistance to white supremacy began in the early 1940s–before “apartheid” even became the name of South Africa’s oppressive system–and continued in the 1990s through his term as the country’s first Black president.
To grasp his life’s significance, we have to come to grips with his life and his times. South Africa’s liberation struggle took place alongside–and in interaction with–dozens of African anti-colonial movements. The history of apartheid and the resistance movement also corresponded almost exactly to the period of the Cold War, a conflict that had major effects on South Africa and its region.
I will, however, narrow the focus to events inside South Africa that shaped Mandela’s early…
In an act claimed to have nothing to do with who is currently behind bars, nor the upcoming Sochi Olympic Games, or Russia’s abysmal human rights record, Vladimir Putin and his Duma yesterday suddenly decided to create a new law that will allow for the pardon of those currently imprisoned for offenses amounting to basically opposing Putin.
The Associated Press is reporting that those “who haven’t committed violent crimes, first-time offenders, minors and women with small children” are being granted amnesty from their current imprisonment.
Among the estimated 25,000 happy recipients of early release are Pussy Riot. The two remaining imprisoned members were due to be released in March one month after the Games. No idea yet if the one member who escaped arrest can now return. The three imprisoned were sentenced to hard labor and two later sent off out of sight to…
