“As 2025 is coming to a close, so will the curtain of many people who are being targeted by ICE and Trump for being someone of a different fit.
One of the targets being pursued is ending the 14th Amendment on Birthright Citizenship, meaning children born to foreign parents on US soil automatically receive US citizenship.
This would set the precedent for other countries to copy the policy, especially in those in Europe that are being influenced by right-wing parties, including the AfD in Germany.

The Supreme Court is preparing to issue a ruling that will determine far more than who qualifies for citizenship, a decision that now sits at the edge of the nation’s constitutional present rather than its distant future. What stands before the Court is not a narrow legal dispute but a live contest over the nature of political existence in the United States and whether citizenship remains a constitutional right or becomes a conditional privilege controlled by the state. The enforcement machinery already exists. Only the final judicial permission remains.
At issue is the plain text of the Fourteenth Amendment, ratified in 1868 after the bloodiest war in American history:
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
These words were written with purpose. After Dred Scott, after the Fugitive Slave Act, after the federal government proved itself incapable of restraining slavery through ordinary means, Congress rewrote the Constitution to strip every branch of government of the power to deny citizenship at will.
