CAMEL’S TEARS
Studies have found that camels produce antibodies with an unusual structure that most mammals do not have.
Because these antibodies are smaller and more resilient, they can attach to certain toxins and disease-causing microbes that typical antibodies struggle to target.
Researchers are exploring camel antibodies for a range of medical uses, including improved treatments for snakebite, multiple therapies, and options for autoimmune conditions.
Compared with many current antivenoms, camel-based antibodies could potentially work against a wider variety of venoms while causing fewer adverse reactions.
This matters because snakebite poisoning still kills tens of thousands of people each year, especially in places with limited healthcare. If research and funding continue, camel-derived antibodies could help produce safer, more reliable treatments for venom and other toxin exposures worldwide.”
