At the end of the day …. ROAR!!!

Image

It’s been a hectic day. The stress started late last night, hardly slept and woke up to confront the issue. It took a lot of thinking, conversations, documentation and trust. Trust in the words of others, trust in their desire to help and trust that I would be able to conquer what I was facing.

A wonderful feeling comes over you when you realize there are friends who are willing to help out of the goodness of their hearts.

You reach out and they are there. The strength that you think you lack comes to you by simply knowing that you are not alone. There’s no holding me back. There’s no limit to what I can do.

Those that are showing their true feelings will be defeated because there is goodness in this world. Good attracts good. Good follows good.

Now, hear me ROAR!!!

Image

“Roar”

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything
Image

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)

Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

Image
[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar
Image

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

Image
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’ll hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar …
Image
Ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oarI got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire

A handshake has the American media and the Right talking ….. WTF???

President Obama shook hands with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro in a landmark moment for the two countries at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.

As President Obama made his way onto the stage to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela – he extended his hand to Raul Castro – who shook it and smiled back. The handshake is a rare gesture between the leaders that reflects Nelson Mandela’s spirit of reconciliation. The only previous known handshake between U.S. and Cuban presidents since the island’s 1959 revolution was at the United Nations in 2000, when Raul’s brother Fidel shook the hand of then-U.S. president Bill Clinton in a chance encounter. Report by Sarah Johnston.

Speaking on CNN, correspondent John King predicted Obama would be criticized for the handshake.

“There will be someone out there who thinks that was horrible,” King said, before adding, “I think the president was showing respect for the moment.”

Jon Stewart Flips Out Over Obama-Castro-Handshake-Gate: ‘What the F*ck Is Wrong with Us?!’

Border1

Published on Dec 11, 2013

Jon Stewart couldn’t help but find it a little ironic Tuesday night that on a day meant to honor the life of Nelson Mandela, a man who was all about forgiving and embracing his enemies, all the American media seemed to be obsessed with Obama-Castro-Handshake-Gate. Stewart dejectedly sighed and cried, “What the f*ck is wrong with us?!”

The argument seems to be, as Stewart put it, that “Obama had the audacity to greet another world leader with a gesture so meaningless, you can train a basset hound to do it.”

Stewart smacked down John McCain‘s Hitler comparison and said this entire “scandal” goes against the spirit of what Mandela fought for to bitch and moan over a goddamn handshake.

But even Stewart had to agree: that selfie? “Kind of fu*ked up.”

**(Sarcasm)**

Just a thought …. Black Cats!!

Image

A black cat is a feline with black fur.

It is not a particular breed of cat and may be mixed or a specific breed. The Bombay, known for its sleek black fur, is an example of a black cat. The all-black pigmentation is slightly more prevalent in male cats than female cats. Their high melanin pigment content causes black cats to have yellow (golden) eyes (irises).

Any cat whose fur is a single color, including black, is known as a “solid” or “self”. A “solid black” cat may be coal black, grayish black, or brownish black. Most solid colored cats result from a recessive gene that suppresses the tabby pattern. Sometimes the tabby pattern is not completely suppressed; faint markings may appear in certain lights, even on a solid black cat. A cat having black fur with white roots is known as a “black smoke.”

Black cats can also “rust” in sunlight, the coat turning a lighter brownish shade.

In addition to the Bombay, The Cat Fanciers’ Association allows solid black as a color option in 21 other breeds. The color description for those breeds is:

Black: dense coal black, sound from roots to tip of fur. Free from any tinge of rust on the tips. Nose leather: black. Paw pads: black or brown.

~~The exceptions are~~

  • Oriental – EBONY: dense coal black. Free from any tinge of rust on tips or smoke undercoat. Nose leather: black. Paw pads: black or brown.
  • Sphynx – BLACK: black. One level tone from nose to tip of tail. Nose leather: black. Paw pads: black or brown.
  • Ragamuffin – Although black is not specifically mentioned, the standard allows for “any color, with or without white,” so technically speaking, an all-black Ragamuffin would be allowed under the breed standard.

“DOUBLE TROUBLE”

The folklore surrounding black cats varies from culture to culture. In Great Britain, black cats are seen as lucky and are often given in token form to brides. The Scottish believe that a strange black cat’s arrival to the home signifies prosperity. In Celtic mythology, a fairy known as the Cat Sìth takes the form of a black cat. Black cats are also considered good luck in Japan. Furthermore, it is believed that a lady who owns a black cat will have many suitors. However in Western history, black cats have often been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches, and so most of western and southern Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, especially if one crosses paths with a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death. In Germany, some believe that black cats crossing a person’s path from right to left, is a bad omen. But from left to right, the cat is granting favorable times.

The gambling world is afraid of black cats: it is believed that if, while traveling to a casino, a black cat crosses a gambler’s road or path, that person should not go to the casino; most players believe that black cats bring bad luck.

December 5 … Healthy Soil Day!

Image

“Unfortunately, these signs of healthy soil are missing on many acres of our farmland.

Only about a third of U.S. farmland is no-till, and less than 2% of acres in the upper Mississippi River Basin use cover crops. As a result, we’ve allowed much of our soil to become degraded, sick, and unproductive. Fortunately, soils can be regenerated. Programs like a “good driver” crop insurance discount for farmers who invest in regenerating their soil can help give our soils, and the farmers who care for them, the respect they deserve.”

December 5 was Happy Soil Day.

Take a moment to celebrate the amazing resource that makes all of our holiday feasts possible — soil.  Happy World Soil Day!

In honor of World Soil Day, here are five signs of healthy soil:

You can’t see healthy soil.  One of the surest signs of healthy soil is that it’s hidden from plain sight, protected from the elements by natural armor.  “No-till” farmers build healthy soil by planting directly into the stubble from the previous year’s crop instead of plowing up the soil.  The stubble acts like an armor, protecting soil from erosion and preserving soil structure.

Healthy soil has living roots growing in it.  During the spring and summer, the Midwest is blanketed with lush growing fields.  The roots from the growing crops take certain components out of the soil, and exude others, adding to the dynamic soil ecosystem.  But for about nine months each year, most fields in the heart of farm country have nothing growing on them.   To keep the system dynamic and alive throughout the year, farmers can use cover crops, which are crops that are grown between commodity crop seasons specifically to improve soil health.

Healthy soil is teeming with life.  There are more organisms in a teaspoon of healthy soil than there are people on the planet!  Each of these organisms, including earthworms, bacteria and fungi, have a special role to play in building a healthy, resilient soil community that is pest- and disease-resistant, soaks up water like a sponge, and provides nutrients to growing crops.  No-till farming protects the life within the soil and cover crops feed it, generating a vibrant community beneath our feet.

Healthy soil produces high yielding crops, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.  For each 1% increase in soil organic matter, soil can store an additional 20,000 gallons of water.  That water can come in handy for growing crops if there’s a drought, and probably explains why farmers who used cover crops to improve their soil weathered the historic 2012 drought better than those who did not use cover crops.

Healthy soil is surrounded by healthy water, ecosystems, and people.  When soil thrives, so do the ecosystems, water, and people around it.  Because healthy soil can soak up so much water and is protected from erosion, it helps prevent polluted runoff from contaminating water.  That means cleaner water for people to fish in, swim in, and drink!

The Science of Healthy Soils

Border1

Importance of Healthy Soil

Soil is the most important component of any landscape.  Healthy soil will make it easier for you to maintain beautiful plants or a green, full lawn.  Ocean County soils tend to be sandy, acidic and low in nutrients; however, they are excellent at absorbing rain water.  Healthy soil in a wooded area of Ocean County can absorb rainwater at a rate of about 15 inches per hour!

Maintaining healthy soils and improving disturbed or compacted soils so that they efficiently absorb stormwater is an important part of protecting and restoring the Barnegat Bay watershed.

How do I know if my soil is healthy?Compacted soil at a newly constructed building site by David Friedman

Soil testing is one of the most important tasks in landscape management.  Having your soil tested is easy and inexpensive and will provide you with useful information.  This is a recommended step before you landscape with plants or try to establish a lawn.

What is Soil Compaction?

Chances are, the soil around your home was altered and compacted during construction.  The heavy equipment that is used to grade and prepare sites for buildings, compacts soil and greatly reduces its ability to absorb rain or irrigation water.  Plant roots (of trees or grasses, for example) have a very difficult time penetrating these compacted soils, which can be nearly as hard as concrete.  The photo above shows an example of compacted soils.

What should you do?

Depending upon the extent of the disturbance (the depth of the compacted/poor soil), you may be able to fix this problem simply.  One recommendation for improving the soil is to mix in organic materials by mixing in compost, peat moss, or leaf compost in the fall.
