A Little Girl Plays For A Street Musician And Gets The Best Surprise In Return

The video begins with a montage of shots in the courtyard outside the church, with groups of children playing and adults soaking in the sunshine.

Then the camera closes in on a cellist, who quietly watches as a young girl approaches. She raises a wooden flute to her lips and plays the opening notes to Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” and what follows is like a high-class, orchestral version of “Dueling Banjos.”

Many thanks to all the members of the “Hans-Sachs”-Choir and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nuremberg who took up our idea enthusiastically and performed it so well at the Lorenzkirche in Nuremberg on the 14th of June 2014!” Ode an die Freude or “Ode to Joy” is best known for its use by Ludwig van Beethoven in the final (fourth) movement of his Ninth Symphony, completed in 1824. His tune was adopted as the Anthem of Europe by the Council of Europe in 1972 and subsequently the European Union.
