Paris Attacks Kill More Than 100, Police Say; Border Controls Tighter
The Paris area reeled Friday night, November 13, 2015, from a shooting rampage, explosions and mass hostage-taking that President François Hollande called an unprecedented terrorist attack on France. His government announced sharply increased border controls and heightened police powers as it mobilized the military in a national emergency.
French television and news services quoted the police as saying that around 100 people had been killed at a concert site where hostages had been held during a two-hour standoff with the police, and that perhaps dozens of others had been killed in apparently coordinated attacks outside the country’s main sports stadium and four other popular locations in the city.

Eiffel Tower – Google Doodle Celebrates 126th anniversary of its public opening
Eiffel Tower : The great Eiffel Tower is the tallest structure in Pairs and the most-visited paid monument in the world. Eiffel Tower celebrates its 126th Anniversary of its public opening, today.
Eiffel Tower opened its doors to the public for the first time, some 126 years ago on this day. This enormous metallic creation is today globally recognized as an iconic piece of architecture. 6.98 million people ascended the tower in 2011. The tower received its 250 millionth visitor in the year 2010.
Search Giant Google is also celebrating the 126th anniversary of Eiffel Tower today, by featuring a Doodle on its home page which has been created by guest doodler Floriane Marchix.
GOOGLE DOODLE TO MARK 126TH ANNIVERSARY OF EIFFEL TOWER
The Eiffel Tower is 324 metres (1,063 ft) tall which is equivalent to the height of an 81-storey building. Its base is square, 125 metres (410 ft) on a side.
It has been made of iron and opened it doors to public view on March 31, 1889. Around 7 million people visit the great tower every year and around 30,000 visits are recorded during the peak summer season.
The foundation of the tower was build in five months period. It took around 21 months to assemble over 18,000 pieces of puddle iron using over two and a half million rivets. The construction of the tower was captured once in every 15 days by the French photographer who took pics from the tower of the Trocadero.
Eiffel Tower was opened by French premier Pierre Tirard on 31 March 1889. The tower has been named after its civil engineer Gustave Eiffel. The Tower shrinks by six inches when the temperature is low.
It remained as the tallest man-made structure in the world for 41 years. Later, the place has been taken by the Chrysler Building in New York. The Eiffel Tower has been built as the main exhibit at the 1889 Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair).
