I found this video this morning as I ‘surfed’ through my Facebook feed.
This weekend I watched the ‘Michael Moore in Trumpland‘ movie.
It’s interesting to me how the message that Agnes Török ties in with Moore’s movie and the fact that there’s the first woman nominee for President of the United States.
Agnes Török is a multilingual award-winning spoken word poet, author and workshop leader. Török has been featured as a TED speaker, regularly collaborated with the BBC and featured at multiple international festivals for arts and sciences.
She has performed on four continents, writing and performing poetry about intersectional feminism, economic equality and the politics of mental health.
~The Project~ The Dangerous Women Project is an initiative of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh.
The Project asks: what does it mean to be a ‘dangerous woman’?
The idea that women are dangerous individually or collectively permeates many historical periods, cultures and areas of contemporary life (despite, and in some instances in response to, explicitly feminist movements).
We may take lightly the label attached by mainstream media outlets to women such as Shami Chakrabarti of Liberty, or Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon as being ‘the most dangerous woman in the UK’.
But behind this label lies a serious set of questions about the dynamics, conflicts, identities and power relations with which women live today.
The Dangerous Women Project will curate 365 responses to those questions from all over the world between International Women’s Day 2016 and International Women’s Day 2017.

There is an innate feeling and desire in every human being to be free.
The place where one is born is sacred.
When your sensibilities are shaken by the continued injustices thrust upon your country, the wise, sensible soul knows it’s time to do something about it.
This is one such human being.
The actions he took were the only resort he had to continue attempts started by others to free Puerto Rico.
Look long and hard at the way “the Master” has treated it’s colony, the Island of Puerto Rico.
“Desperate times, desperate measures.”
The “powers that be” continue to conspire against him.
He’s been the longest held political prisoner in history.
Oscar López Rivera (born 6 January 1943) is a Puerto Rican nationalist and one of the leaders of the FALN
In 1981, López Rivera was convicted and sentenced to 55 years in federal prison for seditious conspiracy, use of force to commit robbery, interstate transportation of firearms, and conspiracy to transport explosives with intent to destroy government property. In 1988 he was sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison for conspiring to escape from prison.
López Rivera was among the 14 convicted FALN members offered conditional clemency by U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1999, but rejected the offer. His sister, Zenaida López, said he refused the offer because on parole, he would be in “prison outside prison.”
Resident Commissioner, Pedro Pierluisi, has stated that “the primary reason that López Rivera did not accept the clemency offer extended to him in 1999 was because it had not also been extended to fellow FALN prisoner Carlos Torres (who was subsequently released from prison in July 2010).”
According to New York Times writer John Broder, López Rivera “refused to accept the President’s offer to commute their sentences.
Mr. Clinton demanded as one of the conditions of their release that the jailed Puerto Ricans renounce the use of terrorism to achieve their aim of independence for the Caribbean commonwealth.”
The continued imprisonment of López Rivera has been both opposed as well as supported by groups and individuals representing political, religious, and other various establishments.
While some call him a terrorist, others call him as a political prisoner.

The short film, Bring Him Home, is inspired by the campaign to free Puerto Rican Political Prisoner Oscar Lopez Rivera. Imprisoned in the United States for over 3 decades on charges of seditious conspiracy. Oscar is the longest held political prisoner in Puerto Rican history.
Bring Him Home is based on a poem written by spoken word artist Reyes, with music by renowned producer DJ O-Zone. Produced by Reyes and Directed Samuel J. Vega, the film attempts to display the innocence of Oscar’s childhood by showing the beauty of his beloved nation, Puerto Rico, through his eyes.
The world is judgemental and you should never take something based on the face value. Always try to know people more and you never know, you’ll end up making a friend for a lifetime, even if they’re from a different culture, religion, or race.
I am not Black
I mean, that’s what the world calls me, but it’s not … me
I didn’t come out of my mother’s womb saying, “Hey everybody, I’m … Black.”
No, I was taught to be black
And you were taught to call me that
Along with whatever you call yourself
It’s just a … label
See, from birth the world force feeds us these … labels
And eventually we all swallow them
We digest and accept the labels, never ever doubting them
But there’s one problem:
Labels are not you and labels are not me
Labels are just … labels
But who we truly are is not … skin … deep
See, when I drive my car, no one would ever confuse the car for … me
Well, when I drive my ….body, why do you confuse me for my … body?
It’s … my … body … get it?
Not me
Let me break it down
See, our bodies are just cars that we operate and drive around
The dealership will call society decided to label mine the “black edition,”
Yours the “Irish” or “White edition”
And with no money down, 0% APR and no test drive
We were forced to own these cars for the rest of our lives
Forgive me, but I fail to see the logic or pride
In defining myself or judging another by the cars we drive
Because who we truly are is found inside
Listen, I’m not here to tell you how science has concluded that genetically we’re all mixed
And race in the human species doesn’t exist
Or how every historian knows that race was invented in the 15th century
To divide people from each other and it has worked perfectly …
No … I’m not here to lecture
I just want to ask one question
Who would you be if the world never gave you a label?
Never gave you a box to check
Would you be White? Black? Mexican?
Asian? Native American? Middle Eastern? Indian?
No. We would be one; we would be together
No longer living in the error
Of calling human beings Black people or White people
These labels that will forever blind us from seeing a person for who they are
But instead seeing them through the judgmental, prejudicial, artificial filters of who we THINK they are
And when you let an artificial label define yourself
Then, my friend, you have chosen smallness over greatness and minimized your … self
Confined and divided your … self from others
And it is an undeniable fact that
When there is division, there will be conflict
And conflict starts wars
Therefore every war has started over labels
It’s always us … versus them
So the answer to war, racism, sexism, and every other -ism
Is so simple that every politician has missed it
It’s the labels …
We must rip them off
Isn’t it funny how no baby is born racist
Yet, every baby cries when they hear the cries of another
No matter the gender, culture or color
Proving that deep down, we were meant to connect and care for each other
That is our mission and that it’s not my opinion
That is the truth in a world that has sold us fiction
Please listen, labels only distort our vision
Which is why half of those watching this will dismiss it
Or feel resistance and conflicted
But, just remember …
So did the cater-pillar
Before it broke through its shell and became the magnificent butterfly
Well, these labels are our shells and we must do the same thing
So we can finally spread our wings
Human beings were not meant to be slapped with labels like groceries at supermarkets
DNA cannot be regulated by the FDA
We were meant to be free
And only until you remove them all
And stop living and thinking so small
Will we be free to see ourselves and each other for who we … TRULY … are
