In Singapore, on Tuesday, June 12, reporters covering the summit between Drumpf and the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, were surprised with a screening of what appeared to be a movie trailer. You could argue that, because tax dollars likely paid for the creation of the clip, we the people ought to share a producing credit. But the nature of the film – its grandiosity, its gaudiness, its chaotic logic, its indiscriminate idiocy – is such that we must understand Drumpf as its author.

The clip, a four-minute overture from Drumpf to Kim, is styled as a movie preview. A golden production logo announces this as a presentation of “Destiny Pictures,” and frequent stock footage finds the sun shining like a dime beyond the curve of a turning world.

Is Drumpf inviting Kim to take command of Universal Pictures? Or join him in playing God? Does either of them know the difference?

Could it be, this audience with Sly?

The narrator is cautiously optimistic:

“When could this moment in history begin? It comes down to a choice on this day, in this time, at this moment.

The world will be watching, listening, anticipating . . . .”

The eyes and ears of the world are represented by telephoto lenses and by TV control rooms and by a woman alone on a sofa watching TV, because this is the sum of what Drumpf knows of persuasion.

It’s been a long process of posturing, back and forth, tit for tat between two deranged, egotistical ‘so-called’ leaders of  two nations.

Not since 1963, during the Cuban crisis missile, had the world been so close to nuclear war.

It’s a very serious topic.

Humor is the best way to get through this in spite of the seriousness of it all.

Americans are accustomed to eruptions of hostility with North Korea, but in the past six months the enmity has reached a level rarely seen since the end of the Korean War, in 1953. The crisis has been hastened by fundamental changes in the leadership on both sides.

In the six years since Kim Jong Un assumed power, at the age of twenty-seven, he has tested eighty-four missiles – more than double the number that his father and grandfather tested. Just before DrumpF took office, in January 2017, he expressed a willingness to wage a “preventive” war in North Korea, a prospect that previous Presidents dismissed because it would risk an enormous loss of life.

I remember all the talk about the Vietnam War and the protests taking place over the country.

I came across the video included below yesterday.

Tears flowed on their own.

In my personal case, I wasn’t really aware about details related to the political status of North Korea. I knew only a bit.

In light of the prominence given to this country by the actions of the ‘so-called president’ as they relate to North Korea, I am paying more attention.

This is a ‘must watch’ video.

Even though the video was posted in 2014, most likely it still applies today.

Yeonmi Park has grown up to be a beautiful, free young woman!

North Korean woman, Yeonmi Park had a packed audience in tears as she relayed an account of her escape from ‘the darkest place in the world’ at the peace and conflict plenary session. The 21 year old said she was brainwashed by the propaganda of Kim Jong Il and three generations of imprisonment or execution was imposed on anyone that expressed doubt about the regime.

“North Korea is the only country in the world that executes people for making unauthorized international phone calls. North Koreans are being terrorized today,” said Park.

“When I was 9 years old, I saw my friend’s mother publicly executed. Her crime? Watching a Hollywood movie.There’s only one channel on TV. There’s no Internet. We aren’t free to move, sing, read, wear or think what we want,” Park continued. The repressive dictatorship led Park’s older sister to escape and gave Park and her mother no option but to escape themselves in order to find her sister. However as they escaped across the border, Yeonmi, at 13 years old witnessed her mother’s rape.

“I saw my mother raped. The rapist was a Chinese broker. I will never forget his face. The rapist had targeted me. I was only 13 years old,” said an emotional Park.

Park called on chinese One Young World delegates to speak out and petition china to stop repatriation, and called on everyone in attendance to support North Korean refugees that flee the country.

What followed was a standing ovation lasting over three minutes and many delegates leaving the auditorium red-eyed with tears, taking a moment to reflect on the atrocities of North Korea.
