HURRICANE MARIA’S RECOVERY

PUERTO RICO IS A COLONY OF THE MIGHTY IMPERIALISTIC U.S. OF A.

Remember the devastation in Puerto Rico?

Neither does the news media.

Seth checks in on the recovery efforts.

RedLineB

Today is the 121st day after Hurricane María battered Puerto Rico.

Two weeks before, 14 days, Irma grazed the island leaving one million of people without power.

Remember the paper towel toss?

It’s something I will never forget and, least of all, forgive!

The video says it all!

A PICTURE SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS

~RINCON BEACH RESORT~

Whenever we travel to Puerto Rico to visit family and friends and to get away from the daily hustle and bustle, we land in Aguadilla. We drive to Rincón and check in.

The resort is our base. We drive from the base to surrounding towns to see friends and family.

As a matter of fact, we were due for our next trip before Hurricane María nearly flattened Puerto Rico 118 days ago.

Prior to that, Hurricane Irma also grazed the island.

NOTICE HOW BIG MARIA WAS

It engulfed and swallowed Puerto Rico.

According to the National Hurricane Center, hurricane-force winds extended up to 30 miles from Hurricane María’s center, while tropical storm-force winds extend outward for up to 125 miles.

Keep in mind that Puerto Rico is 100 miles long X 35 miles wide.

There was no place to hide!

Senate GOP Tax Bill …. “🇵🇷 Catastrophic for Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 …. ‘Intentional’? …. “!!

US2

~~December 3, 2017~~

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

~UNDER HARSH LIGHTS, ON LIVE TV~

I reviewed the article referenced below.

There are many sectors in the population that are going to be affected by this Draconian, monstrous, ‘sweeping overhaul’ passed in the American Senate.

At minimum, it was a covert, nonpartisan, unfair, poorly evaluated bill. It still has to go through several processes before it reaches the Buffoon’s desk for his signature.

As I read, I became more and more concerned but it reach the deepest part of my heart when I saw how Puerto Rico will be one of the many losers of this unprecedented ‘legislation’.

HortyRex©

BLine

~WASHINGTON POST~

Republicans in the Senate passed a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. tax code, on December 2, the largest change since Ronald Reagan’s presidency. The bill zipped through the process in a mere three weeks.

It’s still not a totally done deal though, as substantial differences between the House and Senate bills need to be ironed out before ‘so-called president Drumpf’ can sign the final piece of legislation into law.

But there’s little doubt this is a major victory for Drumpf.

~PUERTO RICO~

The island that was devastated by Hurricane María this fall now might lose some of the few big businesses that remain on the island if the GOP tax bill gets enacted.

The reason is that Puerto Rico would no longer look so advantageous as a place to do business compared to the rest of the United States.

Puerto Rico’s governor is trying to push for the island to be deemed a “free trade zone,” but that was not included in the legislation released before passage.

BLine

~CATASTROPHIC FOR PUERTO RICO~

Friday, December 2, was the day the U.S. banged the last nail on Puerto Rico’s coffin.
The consequences of the new tax reforms for the Island?

Puerto Rico will be treated like a foreign, not domestic for exportation purposes.
This means a 20% additional tariff, making Puerto Rico non competitive for businesses already established on the Island.
We are at risk of losing 60,000 direct jobs and 250,000 indirect jobs that serve these companies.
That in turn, wipes out $2,000 million dollars from the Island’s yearly tax revenue, used for roads, safety, education, etc., among other monies. It mostly affects manufacturers in towns on the Island, away from the metropolitan area, and who employ a high percentage of women, who are the sole breadwinners in the family unit, or as we label them, single mothers.

The domino effect this brings will leave many in abject poverty after being already devastated by hurricane Maria.

I personally would prefer my country getting back on it’s feet by establishing a robust economy, with decent salaries, using the incredible amount of well educated and talented people we have.

If the US takes no steps to take in consideration the opinions of local and stateside economists, it needs to prepare to accept a shitload of people who have a strong history of voting on the Island and will change the political color of government in many states. Florida is a great example. They expected 100,000 Puerto Ricans and at this moment 200,000 and counting have arrived. By the way, there are no airline tickets available till January.

It would be wise for Congress and the Senate to take this in consideration. People are having to leave their homeland and are not happy. Voting will be payback and it won’t be pretty.

I have tried to explain in very simplistic terms, it’s much more complicated and, like an iceberg, what lays under the surface is horrific.

Just sayin’ …

Jeannette P.

BLinePRDebtBLine

The USA must remember that all the Puerto Ricans in America can and will vote and will not forget their families in the island. Puerto Rico is suffering a major humanitarian crisis, where there is no electricity or water in many towns. The ‘supposedly’ biggest power in the world, after 70+ days, hasn’t being able to restore electricity, water, fix roofs of those who have lost everything. Many people lost their houses and everything in it. Many have yet to see FEMA officials or gotten any help.

This is unacceptable and a disgrace!

After all this ‘no service delivery’ and lack of humanitarian help, what taxes are they expecting to get?

I have a very dear friend, across the pond, who has been following the Puerto Rico situation with me. He has been a support for me during this trying time.

Here’s another poem that he has written for my country.

John Bob will always have a special place in my heart for as long as I live.

THANK YOU, JOHN BOB

~John Bob Poem~

Sad a sight of ragged flag,
And disorder all around.
Help us now
To restore from plight our shatter island home
For storm that came and left a dread and lost beyond
belief,
Cry with us and remember, well that befell us then
For to you, the fate could come again
and help be not at hand
So those that have a small donate to help your fellow man

We are but proud and asking not our way
As author is this piece of rhyme I ask on their behalf
a cent a dime a dollar enough for coffee drink.
Enough to restore a gem in blue yonder sea
to see PUERTO RICO shine as was once before.
A new flag atop of mast but just below,
the tatters of
A flag to remind of hardship past and renewal now at last .

With Dedication to all those that lost, RIP

John Bob

Plena Puertorriqueña

~MANOLO AND OLGA~

It’s December 1.

The holiday season has already started.

It will be a bittersweet celebration in Puerto Rico. Yet, the Boricua spirit will never be vanquished.

This is a new song, dropping at the perfect time, with the perfect message. The Puerto Rican people shows their strength and resilience during difficult times.

“Que rico es poder decir que yo soy Puertorriqueño, que rico es poder decir que yo soy Puertorriqueño, enamorao de mi tierra de mi cultura y mi pueblo …

Sube esa bandera al son de una rica plena … “

#YoNoMeQuito

HortyRex©

GoldSwirl

The plena originated in Ponce, Puerto Rico around 1900

It was first heard in the neighborhood Barriada de la Torre, whose population consisted mostly of immigrants from St. Kitts, Tortola and St. Thomas, who had settled on the island since the late 1800’s. Originally, sung texts were not associated with the plena, which was rendered by guitar, accordion and pandero, but eventually, in 1907, singing was added.

Plena was often called the periodico cantado or “sung newspaper” for the lower classes because it spread messages among people, similar to the corridos in Mexico. The traditional center of plena was probably San Antón, a barrio of Ponce, although the black neighborhood of Loíza is also mentioned as the heartland for the genre. Its popularity peaked in the 1920’s.

~VISITS STEPHEN COLBERT~

I didn’t know anything about this woman before Hurricane María battered my country, Puerto Rico

The first images I saw from my country, after the hurricane, showed her working, wading through flood waters, calling on her constituents. Since then, I’ve heard people disparage her real intent. Yet, to me, she has been to voice for my country. She keeps the spotlight on the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico. Will she benefit from this?

I don’t know and I don’t care … as long as Puerto Rico’s crisis remains in the forefront rather than a back burner.

~VISITS STEPHEN COLBERT~

It’s been two months since Hurricane María all but destroyed much of Puerto Rico. And it’s been more than a month or so since most late-night comics ran out of material about Drumpf blaming these American citizens for their own misfortune, whipping paper towels at them like he was trying to win a stuffed animal at the fair, and his administration awarding a sweetheart deal to a tiny energy firm with no experience and two full-time employees that just so happened to be from the hometown of Drumpf’s Interior Secretary and financed by a major Drumpf donor to fix the island’s power grid.

Stephen Colbert took some time on Wednesday’s Late Show, November 29, to let San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz both thank the American people for their continued help and goodwill in the disaster’s aftermath, and to use her time there to continue her criticism of Trump’s characteristic lack of both.

~~Trump’s Tax Bill Will Hurt Puerto Rico~~

Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz

~~Published on Nov 30, 2017~~

San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz explains how Puerto Rico could be negatively impacted by Trump’s proposed tax plan.

GoldSwirl

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” inducted San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz into its “Trump Attacked Me On Twitter” Hall of Fame on Wednesday night, November 29,
Cruz was bestowed the honor following her feud with President Donald Trump, which began when she criticized the federal response to Hurricane Maria’s destruction in Puerto Rico.
In accepting the award, Cruz continued with her criticism of Trump.

She called him a “bully” and mocked his almost daily Twitter meltdowns.
“That gentleman that took the Twitter account for 11 minutes should be nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize,” said Cruz.

“I hope he’s a better golf player than he is a president, because he surely isn’t a good president,” she added.

Cruz noted that being attacked by the president was “a badge of courage” because it meant she was “different to him” and actually cared about people.

LYRICS

1. 2. 3
Ahora todo el mundo señores
Arriba y dice

Pégate, sube las manos
Así que pégate, sube las manos
Que te quiero bailando
Te quiero ver bailando oh
Pégate, sube las manos
Así que pégate, sube las manos
Que te quiero ver, que te quiero ver
Que te quiero ver

Como una gran fiesta
Donde no cabe la tristeza
Donde canto todo, a la amargura no
Sólo se le abre la puerta

Como una gran fiesta
Una fiesta gigantesca
De la alegría, donde la alegría
Después que se despierta
Ya nunca más se acuesta
¡eso!
¡arriba la vida!
