Gilbert Baker (June 2, 1951 – March 31, 2017) was an openly gay American artist and civil rights activist who designed the rainbow flag in 1978. Baker’s flag became widely associated with LGBT rights causes, a symbol of pride that became ubiquitous in the decades since its debut.

The colors on the Rainbow Flag reflect the diversity of the LGBT community.

When Baker raised the first rainbow flags at San Francisco Pride (his group raised two flags at the Civic Center) on June 25, 1978, it had eight colors, each with a symbolic meaning:

Hot Pink: sexuality
Red: life
Orange: healing
Yellow: sunlight
Green: nature
Turquoise: magic/art
Blue: serenity/harmony
Violet: spirit

I’m not really a baseball fan.

I didn’t know this championship was taking place until my dear friend Martin, from The Netherlands, made me aware.

Since then, he’s been keeping me informed and then I go look for info.

Last night was a very important game in many ways.

The main one for us, out countries were going head to head!

He told me …

“In 12 hours we know who plays final.

Good luck Puerto Rico, may the best ball player win!”

Puerto Rico has defeated the team from the Netherlands on an 11-inning sacrifice fly from Eddie Rosario to reach the final of the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

We Will Resist

I go back in time.

Because of my life’s experiences, I use the year 1969 as a reference for the proud emergence of the LGBT community.

I’m well aware that it was there for a long time before 1969.

It wasn’t called that at the time.

The Stonewall Inn riots frame the history for me.

I was 19 years old in 1969, barely coming of age, and realizing that I was ‘different‘.

I did not have a name for it.

I learned about it as the years went by.

In view of the current Republican administration, many of the rights that those before me fought for, may be in jeopardy.

In the past, today and always … these rainbow colors don’t run!

We refuse to go back into the closet!!

THE CLOSET DOOR WAS DESTROYED

The LGBT community has existed since the early days of time.

It wasn’t called that back then.

Great advances were made during the Obama administration which gave our community a sense of equality.

Many came before us who sacrificed to lead us to where we are now.

Harvey Milk was one of the many.

There are also plenty of heroes whose names aren’t know.

With rumors of executive orders coming our way, we mus remain vigilant and ready to stand for our God-given rights as equal human beings.

Not going back into the closet.

Harvey Bernard Milk (May 22, 1930 – November 27, 1978) was an American politician who became the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California, when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Politics and gay activism were not his early interests; he was not open about his homosexuality and did not participate in civic matters until around the age of 40, after his experiences in the counterculture of the 1960’s.

Many are aware of the struggle the LGBT community has gone through since immemorial time.

Let me start at the Stonewall Inn riots in 1969.

This is usually a cut-off point where the LGBT community of the time decided: no more.

We are standing up to abuse and discrimination.

Major goals have been attained since then.

Check list below.

The President-Elect has selected nominees for Cabinet positions.

No one of them has a favorable view of the of the LGBT community and they have expressed their feelings.

It’s not the time to stand down, to go back in the closet.

It’s a time to continue the fight, be vigilant and proud.

Never surrender!

Fifty three years ago yesterday 

A big celebration.

Something to be very proud of.

I’ve been there!

It’s impressive, amazing and incredible.

After climbing countless steps, you reach the top and marvel at the massive structure in front of your eyes.

The Arecibo Observatory is a radio telescope in the municipality of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. This observatory is operated by SRI International, USRA and UMET, under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The observatory is the sole facility of the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC), which refers to the observatory, and the staff that operates it. From its construction in the 1960’s until 2011, the observatory was managed by Cornell University.

The observatory’s 1,000-foot (305-metre) radio telescope was the largest single-aperture telescope from its completion in 1963 until July 2016 when the Five hundred meter Aperture Spherical Telescope was completed. It is used in three major areas of research: radio astronomy, atmospheric science, and radar astronomy. Scientists who want to use the observatory submit proposals that are evaluated by an independent scientific board.
